  • Released on November 26th, 1991, Michael Jackson's latest record, 'Dangerous', was his most ambitious ever. After cutting ties with long-standing producer Quincy Jones, Jackson was on his own for the first time and felt the need to prove himself as an artist.
    The stakes were high, as at the dawn of a new decade and after conquering the pop charts in the 1980s like no other, it was a near impossible act to follow. Jackson needed to reinvent his sound in order to recruit a new generation of fans, but at the same time resonate with older ones with the melodies and catchy hooks they had become accustomed to. Michael Jackson was able to blend them both in a perfect balance and stretch his creative capabilities to its limits.
    In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' album, 'Dangerous 30' consists of a 6-part video series chronicling the construction, release and legacy of Michael Jackson's musical masterpiece, which includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with those involved in the project.

    • @sanaon7453
      @sanaon7453 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In my opinion, learning how Michael conceived "Dangerous" is the most interesting piece of work he's done outside of "Off The Wall", "Thriller", & "Bad". At that point in his career, he's learned a lot from Quincy on how to produce excellent music and made a gutsy move to depart from him. Surely "Dangerous" was not as commercially successful as his previous work. Learning that Michael pushed his own boundaries to go further beyond the genres he was accustomed to and hiring Teddy to help bolster his new sound is a feat that not too many artists and producers can achieve nowadays.
      I bet Michael seeing Janet do so well with "Rhythm Nation: 1814" had to do with his repetitious album delays and wanting to perfect it so much until he received the green light from Quincy.

    • @TheCoachRC
      @TheCoachRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sanaon7453 One thing is certain and has been documented--Quincy encouraged Mike to work with new producers after their decade long (maybe a little more) run. He told Michael to try his luck working with a brand new hit-making producer named Teddy Riley. In Quincy's mind, he felt it was time for Michael to move on and explore new horizons.

    Always thought his peak wasn't Thriller or Bad...but Dangerous. After 30 years it still sounds like it's been released yesterday. Also, i think it's his most HONEST album, in which he finally opens up about media, relationships, sex, politics without constructed images like the one he had for Bad or forced love songs ballads. Artistically speaking, it's definitely his best work.

    • @handsomejustin

      Michael Jackson was at his peak during the Dangerous Era.
      However Bad is by far his greatest and most iconic work. This is how I would rate his albums.
      1. Bad
      2. HIStory
      3. Dangerous
      4. Thriller
      5. Off the Wall
      6. Invincible.
      I'm rating based on the quality of his songs, concerts, music videos during that album era.
      Dangerous is his peak in terms of overall package, live performance and his music maturity.
      But Bad is by far the best quality album in terms of its music, music videos, fashion and style.

    This was MY Michael Jackson era. I remember reading all the articles and rumors about the album and waiting with so much anticipation for it. I remember sitting with my radio/cassette player waiting to record Black or White as soon as it was played. I loved it from the start! I played it over and over and over. Then came the music video. Perfection. I bought the album on cassette and played it non-stop for weeks. Then I got a discman and bought it on CD. Every part of this album & album cycle thrilled me. The songs, the artwork, the videos, the tour, the TV performances, & the interviews. It's 2021 and I still listen to tracks from this album regularly. I get the same thrill I got 30 years ago. This album is pure magic.

      🔥🔥💪🏽😁 That's my favorite one!!! It's his best one!!!! See music is more about soul power than skill, his soul power was its highest on this record!! He song hisdeepest about love, and the dance moves were more two steppish and lit and laid back. As a dancer, you must incorporate a solid mix of two stepping and just laying back getting crunk, and then layer it out with more break dancing and pop locking!! His later years were fire,but he didn't just relax and play with it, he was more focused on tearing competition to shreds in the field of breaking. I like the OFF THE WALL ERA THE MOST, and his earliest dancing the MOST!!! That was more soulful and LIT than all his after work. Itstge SOUL POWER for me, I never go by JUST AWESOME SKILL SET. That's cool and all,but you gotta DIG DEEP, have a powerful message and make people cry. OFF THE WALL will have you in tears off its beautiful songs and soft melodies,, MICHAEL JACKSON'S GREATEST ALBUM AND DANCE STEPS EVER, nothing can top OFF THE WALL, it's the baddest release ever by the BADDEST MASTER MUSICIAN EVER, Michael Joseph Jackson. But I respect and honor all opinionsthough, just wanted to drop those facts.". Black messiah 🙏🏽

      I always thought Dangerous and all these songs about a woman, is actually symbolic for Fame. And how he felt Fame was dangerous, wanted to replace him "who is it" "in the closet" always questioning is sexuality and how he pretty much had to keep his love life locked away. This album was a continuation to Leave me alone. A F you to the critics which is why they called it Disjointed. Shit that's all they could say, mostly cause they felt hip-hop wouldn't last and they just didn't get. Critics can't tell the difference between a horn and a fart coming out their own ass. F em 😆

    Many thanks to The Detail for the first part of a very valuable piece of work.
    Dangerous remains the most under-appreciated work in Michael Jackson’s catalogue. It is a musical marvel. I have not heard a more urgent, liberated and dynamic range of music and sounds since I first listened to Dangerous in 2002.
    It blew my mind then. It continues to (the titles track is leading on my Spotify On Repeat list). I look forward to seeing further instalments of this commemorative series.

I think it would’ve been a hit if he had an amazing video included. It reminded me of Janet’s “Come Back To Me” or has that kind of vibe. The only question would be what song be switched out. I would have replaced She’s driving me wild. With anything really lol. That song just felt unnecessary.

    Dangerous was very looking toward the 90's. I love MJ embraced New Jack & Hip Hop elements into his established style. The album suffered "CD Syndrome".
