Why do I feel the Irishman is going to lose ALL its nominations. It’s best Chance is in Visual Effects and Screenplay but in both categories the competition is really really strong. I really think Netflix is going to get a near shut out again like the Globes. Marriage Story’s only win is likely to come from Laura Dern and Two Popes ain’t in contention to win anything.
I would love for "The Two Popes" to get Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Pryce (won't happen, of course). Hell, it could win all 3 awards and I'd be content. Actually, I'd like Hopkins and Pitt to tie for Best Supporting, that'd be great. But yea, "The Irishman" might not get Visual Effects. There's already criticism about the de-aging effects not looking so great which could give "Lion King" and "1917" the edge. And it's a shame about "Marriage Story".
Rustin Cohle I don’t think the academy would allow a tie but yeah that would be cool for that to happen but I think I’d upset was to suddenly happen for supporting actor I think one of the Irishman actors will take the Oscar. Marriage Story really is a shame, it deserved better. The industry doesn’t like Netflix and it shows. I’m sure the film would have been a bigger awards threat had it been a theatrical release not associated with Netflix.
Rustin Cohle Yeah I agree on VFX except I think it’s still incredibly close. Any four could win, the only one I know that’s not in contention is Star Wars. Lion Kings vfx have been done before in Jungle Book, 1917 has good vfx but it’s no first man imo, Avengers Endgame is no different than Infinity War VFX, and Irishman vfx in my opinion sucks. However all have strong cases to win. Lion King is Jungle Book x11, 1917 has the actual best vfx, Avengers Endgame is sweeping the vfx category so far this award season unlike Infinity War which won nearly nothing yet people thought it would beat first man, this might be the only chance Irishman has at winning so they may give it to that film so it won’t go home empty handed. I’ll know for sure after I see who wins at the guild awards and BAFTAs. I think Avengers has the best chance at winning as of now, May change later.

In 2012, Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty tied for Sound Editing. And there's other examples. So, it CAN happen but it's highly unlikely.

Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit and 1917 are all fantastic. Out of the Best Pictures though, Little Women is fine but not amazing. I love the 1994 version better.

I was so happy Pugh and Bates got in, also loved Joker getting so many and was very happy ad astra and the lighthouse each got something. Hollywood's snub for Editing is very strange considering that it is supposed to win Best Picture. A reminder that Birdman (a one-take movie) was the only time a Best Picture winner wasn't also nominated for Editing since 1980. That is almost 40 years of correlation. But what is also interesting is that 0 movies over the last decade have won Picture without any acting nominations, and only 2 over the past 30 years. What doesn't have any acting nominations? Parasite AND 1917. And those two movies that won without acting nominations both won Screenplay, which neither of Parasite or 1917 will.

I was happy in general with these. I think that one of the biggest snubs was Greta Gerwig for directing. But, I’m so glad for Scarjo: her performances in “Marriage story” and “Jojo Rabbit” were amazing. Speaking of which, I’m glad Jojo Rabbit was nominated in a couple of categories, it was a very good movie in many different ways.
I wrote my thoughts while I was watching the announcement video: -FORD V FERRARI?! I thought it was out of the Best Picture race! What a nice surprise! I also felt doubts about JOKER, since it hadn’t gotten that many nominations in this category throughout the season. I remember THE FAREWELL and KNIVES OUT being considered long shots, so I’m not surprised they’re not nominated, but I thought they were better than some of the actual nominees. -Best Directing was very competitive and the choices were never going to satisfy everyone. I personally felt Greta Gerwig did a better job than Martin, Todd and Quentin, but they’re not bad choices. And no, don’t make this a sexism issue. -Saoirse! Awesome! I feared that she might have lost a little steam recently. I haven’t seen HARRIET, but I thought Lupita Nyong’o had more chances than Cynthia based on how many awards she’s been winning. I personally thought Awkwafina was more deserving than Scarlett, but not a bad choice. -Best Actor was the most competitive category of the entire year. There were arguably 10 frontrunners. The choices were also never going to satisfy everyone. Am I satisfied? Yes. -The writing nominations are all good choices, though I’m surprised 1917 made it over THE FAREWELL. -I like the Best Song line-up. Not just because they’re good songs, but also because THE LION KING isn’t nominated here. -Yes! I love I LOST MY BODY! Wow, no FROZEN PART II here. I thought it was better than HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON PART 3. Even KLAUS (which I liked) is a surprise. -I haven’t seen MALEFICENT PART 2 yet, but I assumed that ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD and especially ROCKETMAN were locks for Makeup/Hairstyling. Hell, even DOLEMITE IS MY NAME had bigger chances. -Wow! I assumed THE LIGHTHOUSE had lost its chances of a nomination. I wasn’t a big fan of THE IRISHMAN’s cinematography. I would’ve nominated LITTLE WOMEN or PARASITE instead. -I haven’t seen 1917, but I know that they make it look like it’s one shot. Does that mean it deserved a Best Editing nomination? Either way, I’m happy with these choices. -Yes! PARASITE for Production Design! I loved LITTLE WOMEN, but it’s not fair for period pieces to always get nominated here. I assumed JOKER could get a chance here. -I thought ATLANTICS was a lock for an International Film nomination, even though I personally wasn’t a big fan of it. -APOLLO 11 isn’t nominated?! I didn’t see any documentary last year, but I thought this one was the frontrunner to win! -I can’t say I’m surprised Willem Dafoe and Song Kang-ho aren’t nominated. Again, the competition was too strong this year. -Yes! THE NEIGHBORS’ WINDOW was one of my favorite shorts last year! -JOKER and LITTLE WOMEN for Score! Yay! THE RISE OF SKYWALKER? But the score was mostly re-using the old themes (even more than EPISODES VII & VIII). I thought US had a bigger chance here. -I’m surpised JOKER is nominated for the Sound awards but AVENGERS PART 4 isn’t. -Good choices for Supporting Actress, though I’m surprised to see Kathy Bates instead of Jennifer Lopez and Zhao Shuzhen.

Taron's snub broke my heart 😭
On the contrary, I was so relieved that Taron wasn't nominated. Jonathan Pryce richly deserved the nomination-- "The Two Popes" is an amazing film. And Banderas deserved one as well for "Pain and Glory", also excellent. Taron was good, but Rocketman was such a so-so Oscar bait biopic. I'm glad it was shut out.

I was so happy Pugh and Bates got in, also loved Joker getting so many and was very happy ad astra and the lighthouse each got something. The main disappointment for me was the irishman getting so many tech noms. overall its a strong ebst picture category. The irish man is the only one I didn't like and it's still better than most of the nominees from last year

There are different opinions on that song but facts are that “Spirit” was nominated everywhere including GG, CC, Grammys and many other award ceremonies and didn’t make it to the Oscars, so that’s considered a big snub. Imagine Scarlett or Driver not nominated in acting categories (nominations everywhere but no wins), that’s same with Spirit

Hollywood's snub for Editing is very strange considering that it is supposed to win Best Picture. A reminder that Birdman (a one-take movie) was the only time a Best Picture winner wasn't also nominated for Editing since 1980. That is almost 40 years of correlation. But what is also interesting is that 0 movies over the last decade have won Picture without any acting nominations, and only 2 over the past 30 years. What doesn't have any acting nominations? Parasite AND 1917. And those two movies that won without acting nominations both won Screenplay, which neither of Parasite or 1917 will.

The Farewell was ROBBED
I was happy in general with these. I think that one of the biggest snubs was Greta Gerwig for directing. But, I’m so glad for Scarjo: her performances in “Marriage story” and “Jojo Rabbit” were amazing. Speaking of which, I’m glad Jojo Rabbit was nominated in a couple of categories, it was a very good movie in many different ways.

I wrote my thoughts while I was watching the announcement video:
-FORD V FERRARI?! I thought it was out of the Best Picture race! What a nice surprise! I also felt doubts about JOKER, since it hadn’t gotten that many nominations in this category throughout the season. I remember THE FAREWELL and KNIVES OUT being considered long shots, so I’m not surprised they’re not nominated, but I thought they were better than some of the actual nominees.
-Best Directing was very competitive and the choices were never going to satisfy everyone. I personally felt Greta Gerwig did a better job than Martin, Todd and Quentin, but they’re not bad choices. And no, don’t make this a sexism issue.
-Saoirse! Awesome! I feared that she might have lost a little steam recently. I haven’t seen HARRIET, but I thought Lupita Nyong’o had more chances than Cynthia based on how many awards she’s been winning. I personally thought Awkwafina was more deserving than Scarlett, but not a bad choice.
-Best Actor was the most competitive category of the entire year. There were arguably 10 frontrunners. The choices were also never going to satisfy everyone. Am I satisfied? Yes.
-The writing nominations are all good choices, though I’m surprised 1917 made it over THE FAREWELL.
-I like the Best Song line-up. Not just because they’re good songs, but also because THE LION KING isn’t nominated here.
-Yes! I love I LOST MY BODY! Wow, no FROZEN PART II here. I thought it was better than HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON PART 3. Even KLAUS (which I liked) is a surprise.
-I haven’t seen MALEFICENT PART 2 yet, but I assumed that ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD and especially ROCKETMAN were locks for Makeup/Hairstyling. Hell, even DOLEMITE IS MY NAME had bigger chances.
-Wow! I assumed THE LIGHTHOUSE had lost its chances of a nomination. I wasn’t a big fan of THE IRISHMAN’s cinematography. I would’ve nominated LITTLE WOMEN or PARASITE instead.
-I haven’t seen 1917, but I know that they make it look like it’s one shot. Does that mean it deserved a Best Editing nomination? Either way, I’m happy with these choices.
-Yes! PARASITE for Production Design! I loved LITTLE WOMEN, but it’s not fair for period pieces to always get nominated here. I assumed JOKER could get a chance here.
-I thought ATLANTICS was a lock for an International Film nomination, even though I personally wasn’t a big fan of it.
-APOLLO 11 isn’t nominated?! I didn’t see any documentary last year, but I thought this one was the frontrunner to win!
-I can’t say I’m surprised Willem Dafoe and Song Kang-ho aren’t nominated. Again, the competition was too strong this year.
-Yes! THE NEIGHBORS’ WINDOW was one of my favorite shorts last year!
-JOKER and LITTLE WOMEN for Score! Yay! THE RISE OF SKYWALKER? But the score was mostly re-using the old themes (even more than EPISODES VII & VIII). I thought US had a bigger chance here.
-I’m surpised JOKER is nominated for the Sound awards but AVENGERS PART 4 isn’t.
-Good choices for Supporting Actress, though I’m surprised to see Kathy Bates instead of Jennifer Lopez and Zhao Shuzhen.
