    Hoya wayetii like medium light ,I burn the plant in January by noon light facing the southern window in Toronto area.

      Mine did well under very high light and didn't burn. The leaves got very red though but they are green now when I moved it into lower light.

    I have a quite large wayetii that was not doing well and was infested with scale. Frustrated, I tossed it out on my deck here in the southeastern US in hot sun and ignored it. It survived, the scale died and I took cuttings (just in case) and brought it back indoors. I repotted it in an orchid type mix in a slotted orchid pot. It seems to be thriving now! That strong light caused the margins to turn dark red-brown, quite a contrast to the center of the leaf.

      Ugh, I hate scale! Sometimes if the plant is not too precious I will just take a cutting and clean that. It's too much to clean the entire plant and especially if the pests are persistent. Sometimes when I receive them with root mealybugs I don't even bother. I reroot them again xD Not diifficult at all and much easier than any treatment!

    Hi! I just recently bought this hoya ( and a few others, if I'm being honest😁) and I eventually want to out it in a different soil mix. Have you had a good experience with the bark, perlite and moss mix? Love your videos!❤🌿

      I agree. Mine is slow and it took me a long time to get the lighting right. Thank you for sharing 😊

      @@Jane-op6qy I think in my case, luck had more to do with it - putting it in higher light :) But it likes it. In some other cases, I was less lucky and I gave them too much light. Oops. :D

    Yes we have ...and FYI the country has 9 species of Hoyas...hoping that our gov.. will regulate them of harvesting it from the forest... sad to say🙁

    Repotted my giant hoya using same soil mix its always been in. No growth and leaves folding as if too dry. (It isn't) Hard to handle due to size but it sounds like I need to examine roots. Thoughts?

  • @jojee.mp4

    I'm new to houseplants and hoya wayetii is my first hoya! I was worried about the little white dots that I saw on mine, until I saw them on yours... What are they?

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Welcome to Hoyas! Do you mean on the stem/ vine? Those are aerial roots :)

      @@BasiePlants hmm, I would say they're on the leaf itself. Thanks for responding by the way!

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a problem! No need to thank me :) Oh, sorry, I didn't understand exactly where the dots where :) On my wayetii some of those are damage from shipping, some are build ups from hard water (I assume in the garden center). You can of course inspect carefully and see if they can be removed. If not, it's probably some damage from shipping.

    What about vermiculite instead of the moss. Have you ever thought about using that. Its hold more moisture than perlite.

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, perlite is more for drainage. I have never used vermiculite, it might work. Moss can give you moisture and an airy mix if you don't compact it. :) I will try vermiculite as an experiment.

    • @puccipalace
      @puccipalace 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BasiePlants I hope it works. Vermiculite keeps moisture so especially for top dressing its good. not as airy as pumice or perlite though..maybe because it retains moisture.

    Basie, can you please make a video, how to understand what hoya I may have - kentiana, wayetii or sheperdii. If it's not flowering and not variegated.

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can definitely compare wayetii and shepherdii. I don't have a kentiana... but we'll see if that can be changed soon! I will try to bring it to you as soon as possible 💚

      There are many Hoyas that look similar to each other. That leaf shape is very interesting to me, but it's not my favorite. I will have to look into it more :)
