  • Sermon on the Mount E9 - What did Jesus mean when he said he came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets? In Jesus’ day, the laws from the Torah were over a thousand years old. And the Jewish people under Roman occupation weren’t able to follow all of the laws perfectly, leading to countless interpretations of how the people could observe the Torah. So what made this rabbi from Nazareth’s approach to the law any different? In this episode, Jon and Tim discuss Matthew 5:17-20, unpacking its historical context, most perplexing phrases, and the greater righteousness that Jesus is introducing to his listeners.

Thank you for emphasizing that the righteousness in verse 20 is the righteousness of the believer, as concluded from 6:1.
Hence it isn’t the imputed righteousness that changes our standing before God talked in Romans 3.
This is the form of right living before God, in the “will of God” which is only possible by the allowing of the working of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer according to Phil 2:12,13.
Being a believer who is constantly led by the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean that he would never sin, but that he would sin lesser and lesser often realizing the sinful nature still active in him and the “abundant grace” of God and His vast love working in Him, through which the believer would live according to God’s will and not his own, thereby exceeding his righteousness than the scribes and the Pharisees, only through the Spirit of God.
May our gracious Lord Jesus help and empower us all.

They developed it themselves. They’ve got a team of PhD’s and they made their own translation for Matthew 5-7

    ¶ LAMED
Yahweh, your word is settled in heaven forever.
Your faithfulness is to all generations.
You have established the earth, and it remains.
Your laws remain to this day,
    For all things serve you.
Unless your law had been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts,
For with them, you have revived me.
    I am yours.
Save me, for I have sought your precepts.
The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me.
    I will consider your statutes.
I have seen a limit to all perfection,
    But your commands are boundless.

    (Psalm 119:89-96 WEB)

The teaching is good, but all the bells and oboes and chimes diminishes the teaching. Time to get rid of all the producers and refocus on the gospel. I'm not sure why one would want to add fluff to God's word.👎
