2019 Acura RDX Fuel Pump Recall

- In todays video we learn about the fuel pump recalls and what exactly it is.
We start off by removing trim pieces and removing the rear seat cushion. From there we remove the covers, drain the fuel and remove the fuel pump/sending unit out of the car.
While on the bench we rebuild the sending unit with a new fuel pump and then we reassemble the whole thing. Not as bad as you think its is.

Thanks 👍 Unfortunately Honda/Acura recalls are separate from each other. What i mean is that is that the 2 brands don't share the exact procedures on similar cars. If the CR-V has a fuel pump issue as well then the process might be very similar but not exactly. Hopefully a Honda guy out there makes a video!

now i know why i was smelling bit of fuel after getting mine replaced mechanic probably spilled some drops of it under the seat
I actually work at the factory where these are made at, I'm on the line that makes the RDX model. Just started there last year
Just had the pump replaced on the 2016 MDX. Glad we bought the extended warranty!!!!
Glad to hear you got that warranty! I do believe there is a recall for those years MDX's.... SB 19-011. Hopefully there are no more issues! :)
Thanks Edwin. Now I know what's involved with the recall and the subsequent problem I have with my 2019 RDX. My car stalled on the way home last night and had to be towed to the nearest dealer.

How many miles your vehicle when the fuel needed to be replaced
@@lloydybenoit6766 Around 20,000km. It was a recall by Acura, but the dealership technician didn't install the new fuel pump properly. The improper installation caused my car to stall and needed to be towed.

What was your vehicle mileage when the fuel pump failed? My 2019 rdx has only 17000+ miles
@@lloydybenoit6766 Mine didn't fail, but it was recalled by Acura for being defective fuel pump. My mileage at the time was close to yours.
2018 RDX Recalled a year ago. "Waiting for the parts from Acura" is what I am told...again.

Great video! I just had my mother’s in law done two weeks ago on a 2019 RDX and since then, it is hard to fill it with gas because the trigger keeps clicking off multiple times. Tried 4 stations in total and all were clicking off at least 5 times before it finally decided to work. Took it back to the service today and of course it worked fine when tried to put $10 worth of gas and then on the way back home, I stopped at the gas station and couldn’t fill it up… could it be the bad sending unit?
Would love to see transmission service on that same car.. Most dealerships, don’t even know there’s an external filter for the trans that’s easy accessible right under the cooler.. Hopefully you guys are doing that when you do trans services?

Besides this small issue, are there any other issues with the 2019 RDX? I'm looking to purchase one. I can't decide between the Acura RDX and the Lexus NX 200t F Sport. Really trying to do my homework on both. Any advice and tips would be helpful. Thanks

Question I'm been wanting to buy a 2019 rdx, but is out of my budget, I seem to look all the time on salvage vehicles, and for some reason I see that most of this cars in the description the auction always mention there is an electrical problem in this type of vehicle. I own a 2013 acura rdx now, but never have a electrical problem before on my 2013, can you tell me if I should get one of this vehicle and are the electrical problem in this 2019 are basic problem to be repaired in the future..please keep me posted, if I should good ahead an buy of this 2019. FYI I'm not buy any Flood vehicles.. just so you know.. most one I see are not flood but seems to always have something in comment when it comes to a minor electrical problem.. thanks for posting good videos hope to hear from you 😊

Thanks for a great video, Edwin. I just had this done at my Acura dealer last Friday... still a decent smell of gasoline. Not super strong, but easily detected when I get in the car. Do you think that will eventually evaporate, or at this point is it a bigger spill I need to have them look at cleaning? Thanks for any help you can give!
Hopefully the smell has dissipated by now but if not talk to the service manager and let them know. Hopefully theyd be able do something about it as in maybe giving you a free detail. Good luck!

So that part you pushed in that went click is the reason for the recall? And if done will it faulty again. I have a 2020 RDX with a fuel pump issue. No fuel sending to the engine. Could that be the issue?

I had a 2019 Acura RDX and dealer did the fuel pump recall. Once a while after refill my gas tank the gage in the dash is not showing accurate reading. Similar behavior is observed when vehicle is park at an incline. Did the dealer not installing the pump correctly?
Save you some time &dont remove the back seat just lift up &use a pry bar to hold up the seat , that's what we do

They just announced another recall in march 2021. Is this the same recall or is this another part that is defective?
Looks like the new recall SB 21-016 is VIN specific. That means not every car is getting this bulletin done. But it does look like it's the same part being replaced again :(
what is the numbers on the tool you are using to remove the lock ring ?
Can you please specify what part numbers need to be replaced. just a motor ?
they only sell the whole assembly of your buying yourself. If the dealer does it they only change out the motor. To what brand is the question.
Does this affect the 2021 RDX’s too ?
As of now...No. This is mostly for the 19 model year but time will tell to see if it gets expanded to other model years. Haven't had too many issues with 2020's though
I have a 2020 and yes, they call me yesterday. Today is on service.
You would think Acura/Honda would just sent the whole unit out. That looks like a pain to take apart
They're just replacing exactly the piece thats wrong and nothing more lol. Im assuming it's a way to keep costs low.
I took my 2019 Rdx for fuel pump recall bring it back home. The engine shakes the 2nd I took it back they say I pump bad fuel in my car that was the problem. The 3rd time I took it back the dealer had my car in the shop for 62 days to fix’s but it end up costing me over $5300 out of my pocket.
Why was it in the shop for 60 days? And was it bad fuel or diesel? If it was bad gas then the gas station should be responsible for any damages. You would have to talk to a lawyer if that’s the case. Diesel on the other hand and you’re on your own. Sorry to hear it’s been so crazy.
I just want to be able to syphon gas from my 2017 rdx for a generator that is too complicated dont want to buy the tool.Gotta be a better way.
WHEN U PULL OUT PUMP U SHOULDNT BE DUMPING BACK THE GAS AS ITS SPILLS EVERYWHERE AND CAR WILL HAVE GAS SMELL
You dont tilt the unit so the gas falls into the tank?
