I love Tessa tape. I discovered it by accident when I was in my late teens. Went to the hardware store for vinyl electrical tape and bought friction tape by mistake. I am 32 now and I use it for all my wiring projects whether it be my motorcycle or my Miata.
What you do and have been doing for years with this blazer and now the suburban is nothing short of insane. Your abilities and attention to detail is amazing. I've been following you for years now and you have inspired me to take chances on my own truck. At least what my budget allows. Your attitude, your mindset all of it wrapped up into one. Keep doing what your doing. Your channel is one of the best on TH-cam hands down! Your k30 blazer is a masterpiece!!!
This is why I started this channel! Just wanted to show that you don’t need a ton of specialized training or insane talent to build something cool. Just some time an a commitment to sticking with it! Thanks for the kind words!
I use that same electrical tape when I restore the wiring harness of my 1977 Nissan Junior truck and holy moly is day and night diference, such a clean end result, probably im gonna use it again with my 1978 Nissan Condor UD truck
Ford called it Elliot tape but I have no idea why. Exact same reason. They didn't want as much sticky residue after the tape had been sitting on the wires for a period of heat cycles. And the Electrical tape would come off in pieces when It dried up. Leaving the wires nice and sticky
@@Siillky but for me once the car step on the road there are no way it looks like that..at the very least never miss a puddle of water along the way...but i am really inspired by this wiring organization so good.
thanks guys. I actually spend a long time cleaning it. I am hyper detail oriented which can be a drawback sometimes. I prob spend as much time cleaning as I do wrenching!
Looks fab. Yes, McMaster-Carr is awesome. Got pointed to it by Adam Savage and it the site has superb details for all it's parts and products. I need to know the typical countersink angle on some fasteners and so I could understand the necessary plate thinkness for the head to be flush and the MM-C was the best place for this sort of info. Sensible to keep everything away from the inner wings as you say and Tessa tape is great. Split trunking is also very handy where wiring has to be put through sharp edges and the like. Thanks for the vid!
I have been calling it friction tape. I love it. You can wrap it on and then hit it with a heat gun and sort of knead it in if you have to. Also, you could cover it with electrical tape but I don't. Electrical tape is a gooey mess. don't get solvents or fuel on it! If I still need some wore management, I may put some of that spiral plastic stuff over it. Electrical tape has its place but the friction tape is awesome!
Have you thought about using some weather-pack connectors instead of the male and female spade connectors for your electrical connections? If you haven't seen them you should definitely check them out. They have rubber seals so that are probably about as water tight as you can get. Keep the videos coming! I've got an 87 Suburban I've been considering doing an LS swap in.
@@MerricksGarage I love them. I used to use them when I worked on MODOT dump trucks. Can you recommend a good replacement torque converter for my Suburban? It's an 87 with a 5.7L and a 700r4 and it's on 35s. I want something that'll last but not too expensive cause I just wanna get it back on the road till I can gather everything for an engine and transmission swap.
I tried that tape and didn't find it exceptional in any way. In fact, bought 24 rolls and only used about 3. It was grossly overhyped. My supplier no longer even carries it.
"Don't use this use that"... waiting 3:30 for some sort of explanation of the title of the video. Ahhhh....cool....could a done that in 10 seconds...okay
Your logic makes sense, I get it. It’s clean, methodical, and optimized around durability and functionality. Respect 👍...it’s also why you can never work for any of the big 3 in their engineering Dept.
lol as u can tell theirs certain types of ppl that take certain phrases certain ways u cant make them feel u came up with the idea or that u said to use it, u have to word it, "is this shit any good" or "is this the new electrical tape" which its good tape, but not the new electrical tape, they both have their strengths i had a ton left over from when my stepdad ran the 100 year old family shop into the ground thanks to dope n coke i jus do my own little mechanic thing i do go outta ny way to buy that tho its good shit for a bunch of different stuff
Job well done. Good job. How did you get the conecter off the module for a 2014 Town and Country van ??? Like in this video, does not show how to disconnect it. th-cam.com/video/BZ4aAzC5fSw/w-d-xo.html
Em no. I will use electrical tape. Not taking advice from a TH-camr over my many years doing electrical. Lol
Ha ha. Best comment ever. You do you homey!! Ha ha
@@MerricksGarage Crazy that people will take their time to comment on something they claim no interest in.
I honestly don’t get it. But I enjoy it ha ha
The OEM harnesses are using the Tessa tape now. It is better
you can do something for 20 years the wrong way. there is some merit in adaptability

Discovered Tesa wrap at my place of employment. It is the best for wrapping your wire harnesses!

Lol. I agree. I am hoping to continue to blend the two.

I TESA tape everything. Helps w vibrations from Bass too
so 5 seconds of hey i used tesa tape and the rest is just dude showing off his offroad truck. 😐

That tape is good stuff. I ordered me some. Thanks for finding it and making a link to it.
I am amazed how do you keep away from slight of dust in that engine...it looks like just came out from the factory

Good video on build, will this tape withstand high temperature?
Compared to electrical tape? Absolutely.
It isn’t intended for high heat contact or exposure. I have it under the hood of many many builds
Are you using thermal shrink tubes yet ? If not, you would like those too 😬
Looks amazing I’ll drop my Jeep off and let you go through it when your done with the K30

Tesa tape works and looks awesome.👍

New harness are also being made with plastic tubing non shrink.
What brackets are you using to hold the radiator in? Keep up the good work!

Sir wat is the life of this tessa tape
I am curious to find out if the tesa tape has held up. Laurie Varela REALTOR® | United Commercial Advisors, Virtual Properties Realty
oh yea. This stuff is legit. Its all I use now.
That's what I use for all my homemade harnesses
Are you running hydro boost brakes?
No problem. Just bring your check book! Ha ha
Looks like a standard vacuum booster in the video.
Whoops. That was a response meant for another comment. No, I am just running the vacuum booster
Can i know if tesa tape is fire retardant , ?
Which TESA tape …. does it have a part number? Enjoy your build, great effort going on. 👍
Tesa 51036
@ Thank you. 👍
I use the expanding wire sleeve on everything with heat Shrink ends. I’ll have to check out the tesa tape
Thanks for stopping by today!

Looks great. You can tell that there has been a ton of thought to get that set up just right
Lots and lots of staring at the truck ha ha
Merricks Garage hahaha. I like those wire flags. Are those part of the Holley harness or did you add those? If you added them where did you get them?

That foam in the fenders looks ghetto merrick lol, also how much freaking heat does it keep in? I'm sure it doesn't help
