I like this style having the diagnosis and repair in the same video. If I were you in this vid I'd need to lay back in the grass and just let out a nice scream.
Geez, 20 minutes in, I figured you might need the services of an exorcist to drive out the demons that possessed that unit 😂😂😂. But as usual, you figured it out and executed a good repair.
A thermal camera with decent resolution, would have told you what wire was tripping the breaker in just seconds.. I have a Fluke one and it's pretty cool watching what's is normally invisible to naked eye.. Flir has good ones and UNIT also has a few in a good price/quality ratio 👍
Man o man Curtis! Today I finally got the answer to why my new Trane heat pump sounds like a freight train. Took 3 visits from 2 companies to get someone to take the time to look at the unit and find the problem. The company who installed it finally agreed they installed a broken unit and are replacing the compressor and reversing valve for free. But only after I had a written report from the other company outlining everything wrong with it. Good grief! Wish I lived in Georgia because I know you wouldn't treat me like that. But you told me several times to keep pushing for a fix so I listened to you. Thank you for your guidance. I appreciate all you do. Take care!
Wow bud those are the type of nightmare calls I seem to get glad u got it that it. Thanks for taking us along on those types of call too Have a good one sir
Thought you mighty be getting ready to trip the light fantastic this evening; just joking, we know you don't like dancing around anything, including facts and the truth. Another great CC production; thanks. 😎
Dude, you are the man nice job I like your work I’m in New England. Everything is straight heat or straight AC. What you’re looking at is mind-boggling to me
Thats what we been setting ICP equipment ( Heil ) I by golly them package unit are a pain to work on. To replace the inducer motor on gas units are a nightmare as well.
I’ll never forget how my AC guy installed a brand new board, which then said there was a different problem..at first, my guy ordered the parts, but then showed up w a second brand new board..he said he got to thinking about it, and the “first” new board was making no sense in terms of the diagnostic code, so, tried the second one, presto, problem solved…
That was a complex failure mode to troubleshoot, good call tracing out electrical short, and figuring out the cause for cooling coming on with stat wires pulled, baffling, what i saw did not add up, thanks for keeping the camera going…..
Wow, that was an odd one. Did you get shocked on the 24 VAC lines and also when you initially reached in on top of the fan? You retracted your hand pretty darn fast a couple of times... Risky Business for sure... Love your videos, watch every one!!! Be safe out there.
😅 he said now what! So why was the contactor getting 24v? I watched but missed it 🤷♀️. Maybe the board became aware and adapted itself to survive during a power outage by storing 24v. 😂 it learning to survie 😮
Reminds me of my days of repairing circuit boards. They would flex and crack from heat and cold. Bare wires touching the chassis causing a short and so on.
Put some dog biscuits in your truck. I used to carry mail and toss a biscuit to dogs on my route . Most of them became friendly to me, but, there were still a couple of knuckleheads that kept barking after they ate the biscuit.
So when they pulled the stat off, they shorted the board, never turned off power. So you got bit on the reversing vavle wire or was that the blower or comp wire? Very tight spot to work in those for sure. Great video on this duel fuel unit.
They tried to change the Tstat because it was blank. That shorted wire had tripped the low voltage breaker. So, the Tstat never had power when they messed with it.
can you make a video om=n some of the most important service tools you need? im currently an installer but finally making that transition into service and im just starting to create my bag.
those models from ICP engineers left very little space for service, try replacing the draft motor! top screws are behind the metal plate where board sits, but at least they improved the panel doors, you used to have one big front panel....
You need to Start Charging Customers that let their Dogs Yapping in the Yard while you’re Filming a Premiere Show. 😬 How Unthoughtful of Homeowner & Dog. 😬👍
@@blankman8021 Yes, the dogs owners are the problem for not giving them the attention they need to reward them for being on alert. After the initial bark etc. owners need to let them know all is okay. This mutt wouldn't even come out to the fence to bark so that one was a habitual barker.
My guess is that board failed on its own vs. a power surge. They usually do because they are made cheap, bad solder joints and poor materials to last long.
Joe Homeowner (Aka Mrs. Google) should Always Call you First because Most have NO Clue what they’re doing other than Replacing the Thermostat Batteries. 🤪👎
What a mess I would have pulled out all the wires thrown them in the yard and mowed over them at least a dozen times then reinstalled it and it mite looked better
Suspected rub out from the beginning. Seems to be a huge problem these days. Name a brand and it’s likely got a sensor or control that the wires are rubbing against a refrigerant line. Very aggravating as a tech seeing the over engineered price of equipment with the silliest wiring harness. Brands should be ashamed of themselves.
Never did like those package units. This one, with the dual fuel, what a cluster ! Also, the factory wiring didn't impress me too much as those wires running over the top of the blower housing looked like they will in due time rub through like those on the reversing valve. Don't these manufacturers understand that robust wiring, wire looms and routing are part of the plan?
That looked like a huge pain in the rear to do.! O.oo ya. The dog was just doing his or her job. But ya. The homeowner should have played more attention. Just for curious sack.
I hated that unit design. Cracked discharge line and too much crap stuffed into the control section. Luckily the school district I retired from only had a couple.
Do you have permission to record people or their house and the conversation you have if I caught any contractor recording without my permission I’m suing or you will be fired and I will tell everyone the same way you are recording And by the way I own 15 properties
Your videos are never long, they are the best.
I like this style having the diagnosis and repair in the same video. If I were you in this vid I'd need to lay back in the grass and just let out a nice scream.
I bet you made that lady very happy, probably gonna have a repeat customer now.
I gotta say curtis I ain't ever seen a unit do that before !!!!
You looked a bit frustrated, but you win in the end, nice work.
Geez, 20 minutes in, I figured you might need the services of an exorcist to drive out the demons that possessed that unit 😂😂😂. But as usual, you figured it out and executed a good repair.
THANKS ALOT ! I stumbled across this channel and can't quit watching your Vids😂! I'm a car guy but find this fascinating! Great work man !!
Thanks for watching!
Good job. You gotta love it when you move something and it starts working.
you hung in there & kept a clear head, your to be commended, nice job👍

Curtis, Man that was a complicated repair. Great job.
That takes perseverance and Experience ! I was mesmerised by this one . Could not even guess the outcome.
Great job Curtis. That one had my head bleeding from scratching it.
Your a good man Curtis, your the right man to fix this issue 👍🪛

Great video, and I also learned of a new song that I liked.
Oh man! I have got hit by that sneaky capacitor on those ICP units in the fan many times!!! 😂
Wow bud those are the type of nightmare calls I seem to get glad u got it that it. Thanks for taking us along on those types of call too
Have a good one sir
You are one hell of a tec , 👍👍
Thanks
I had to turn on my air conditioning for a few hours yesterday afternoon and it worked very well so I think it's going to work for another season
I had a carrier the other day out the box with the DTS wired to the contactor and CKH wired through the 24V switches. Crazy as hell
Thought you mighty be getting ready to trip the light fantastic this evening; just joking, we know you don't like dancing around anything, including facts and the truth. Another great CC production; thanks. 😎

Good video. Like the head scratchers.
Top notch diagnosis. I was thinking the other board ( defrost)was bad
I had a nightmare call today. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
I like your channel I learned a lot
Awesome, thank you!
Good one ... Thx ...
Enjoyed the video Curtis!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job 👍👍👍
Good Job Curtis. All the wiring they have in those units looks like a bowl of spaghetti lol
After you ruled out the contact my spidey senses told me it what the circuit board. Great job is finding the short. Easy money baby! 💪
Thats what we been setting ICP equipment ( Heil ) I by golly them package unit are a pain to work on. To replace the inducer motor on gas units are a nightmare as well.
Got to love low voltage short calls 😂🍻
Well Done Mate..I would have replaced the defrost board..only to find out that it was the main unit board..lol
persistence!!! at its finest.

I could live without the euro pop, but I suppose others like it.

He got hit by the cap
When things come on with no call, I presume a relay has died so replace the board we will!
great vid bud
Wow, this job was one of those time consuming diagnostic nightmares, glad to see you figured it out though.

Was it high voltage that zapped you near the fan? Loose wire or another rub had to fix? Great job. That thing was possessed.
I think it was a hot pipe.

DIY EXTRA CHARGE FOE THAT ONE

Bro the dog doesnt give a flamingo. Yes annoying but cant blame the owner either lol
@@JesseDoesHVAC lol it didn’t bother me probably because I love dog’s. ✌🏽

Hello Curtis, where did you get the long needle probes for the meter?
Those are fluke accessories, sold at my local supply house
Oh, I see. Next day air and 4 days later. Must have shipped by Fraud Ex. Happens to me all the time. UPS all the way!
I would have called for 2 priests and held an exorcism 😂😂😂😂😂
That board isn't easy to change had to change one on unit arcoaire
No it wasn’t
I had the exact same thing happen to me. I despise those units and how they pack everything in.
Good content
582 set point
4:29 cook time. What are they cooking in there?
Great detective work, Curtis.
Any opinion on wiring a surge protector into the outdoor disconnect, given how many boards these units have?
I don’t think it’s ever a bad idea. Some systems need them more than others.
My guess is that board failed on its own vs. a power surge. They usually do because they are made cheap, bad solder joints and poor materials to last long.
Btw excellent job and video
And you slick talking about your customers and if they knew that i definitely wouldn’t hire u again

It's got a huge compressor!
What Meter is that with the quick connect thin probes?
Those are fluke probes, and fluke tips
I’m assuming you were hoping to on wire the reversing valve to see if that was your short?
Hey who is the band that’s playing while you’re changing out the wire on that board?
Done good
Welcome to the jungle! (Of wires)
Reversing valve stuck in AC ?
One of those calls that make your head spin
WHY am I getting 24v to my contactor "
For board replacemenr, it would have been nice if the engineers took a lesson from Curtis Mathis.
I was screaming look at the schematic..
What a mess of wires.
What a mess I would have pulled out all the wires thrown them in the yard and mowed over them at least a dozen times then reinstalled it and it mite looked better
What a pain.

The camera harness needs to be raised a bit. The work area is sometimes hard to see, otherwise very educational.
Too bad local hvac schools can't use these damaged boards for training. troubleshooting mach ups.
👍👍😊😊
What about the actual transformer itself?
Should have replaced the contactor coil as well.

Hardest part about the job is the wires looking like a rats nest, makes it impossible as a technician
Where is that contactor getting its 24 vac
Who ever wired that machine from the factory should be ashamed! What’s a disaster!
D'Ya lose money on this one or did the customer gladly pay for your labors?
Oh I got paid
@@HVACGUY So much for overnight rush delivery !
we dont even work on stuff if the customer has effed with it. its almost always more of a can of worms

I hate these units w/o a low voltage terminal board
I hate those comfort maker packs...pieces of junk.

Who designs this friggin stuff, ya think they could have crammed more in that small space ? Sure glad to be retired. I don't envy you guys.
I wire y let’s see what happens
