I’m honestly so impressed not only by how damn talented you are, but also by the fact that you use a TRACKPAD for your art 😂 everybody’s got a favorite tool and you clearly have a masterful skill on it 😍
Thanks so much dude, and it being a 'favorite tool' is a good way to put it! One thing is that it makes it difficult when people ask for advice on gear 😂
Thanks for noticing, loved RE2 and that's along the lines of what I was thinking! I wonder if the others would be different types of plants too, or maybe other random decor
Woo another trackpad user! 😂 Yeah I like only needing the laptop on it's own...provided it's charged too! I could imagine using a tablet (the kind with the screen) would be that same convenience too :D
I'd have never guessed you used a laptop track pad. Next time I see someone say they can't make good pixel art because they don't have a tablet, I'm going to point them to this!
Exactly. In the end it's all about comfort. You make art with anything. I use a tablet but that's bc using a mouse for me caused many cramps in my hand.
Ever since we transitioned from using computers - where I struggled to use a mouse due to having to move-pickup-movebacktooriginalplace-repeat a clunky mouse which would 'stick' and then jerk when trying to make the tiniest movements and just wouldn't go slowly, using a trackpad or one of those little.... eurgh, 'nipple' mouse things IN amongst the keys (I want to call it something like a knob but that isn't much better, why can't it have a sensible name? XD) on a laptop, I've just done all my art easily on it. Especially helps when I can click with the trackpad and use the arrow keys, which might be cheating but hey it gets precision! I can't imagine trying to use a drawing pad like we had 20 years ago where you had to trial and error where you were pressing on and hoping you got the right bit, though I have learned you can use the pad AS A SCREEN so you KNOW where you're clicking now. I'd say that while trackpads are only second best for precision, because my arty friend could also not ever see doing art on a trackpad and is amazed I do, it is something, and it is MY first choice personally~
Thanks for the behind the scenes look, always cool to get a better idea of how things are made. I'm always a sucker for the kind of detailing you get with technology in pixel art, and the isometric trick works really well for stuff that's off the grid in a top down style. I also really love the way the mottling in the gaps between the floor tiles really sells that grungy feel without being so noisy as to affect the readability of the scene.
Thanks dude, I feel like it was that for me too because I've never really watched myself make the art either 😅 Glad you noticed the floor tile thing, had done that back in the Samurai mock-up vid and brought it into here - great way to weather while not distracting from the tile lines :D
I've always heard how you talk about using trackpad for making pixel art, but actually seeing you do it really makes everything more impressive. much respect!
I've said it once and I'll say it again: I'm impressed with your art, but perhaps more so at how you keep your videos and ideas fresh! It's very inspiring to watch as an artist :D
For some reason I thought my man Brandon had a sweet, high tech tablet. But the fact he just used the track pad from the laptop, just makes him more awesome. Reminds me that it's all about skill and not so much the tools. I love you, B. You're a great inspiration. I've been consuming your videos since I found about you one day ago. You're THE pixel guy!
I know you've mentioned using the trackpad in previous episodes but to actually see it in action is crazy. There's a lot of skill there and probably reflects using a tablet to a certain extent. I enjoy watching your videos and it's inspired me to get back into it.
I feel obligated to thank you for the change in the Ending Theme. I am happy to no longer feel like a jumpscare is coming upon me... ^^ The "every day a piece of art" -approach is interesting (and like everyone I would enjoy daily content from you), but it´s risky, due to stress and a growing "responsibility to put up videos" (completely on your own). However, I can imagine how this becomes a running theme, e.g. if you get inspired randomly on your daily life (or internet/game consumption). Btw, have you ever considered to make (animated) pixelart in the style of classic webpages, e.g. Google, amazon, wiki...? Might be interesting to witness how you twist and turn a standard into pixel art.
Man, I've literally been watching this guy for the past few weeks on my week laptop I usually carry with me on summers (It's 7 years old now, ASUS X551CA), but even I have decided to try and make my own Mega Man fan game with 0 scripting knowledge using Mega Engine, yet when I've decided to go with pixel art first, I've realized I needed a sketch, but most important thing - I forgot to bring my mouse on the trip, which has dissapointed just as much. However, I didn't expect such a famous guy to use trackpad instead, like, I feel so bad on mine lol
I don't know how you can use the track pad to draw. I can barely use mine to navigate the web lol. This was an awesome setup. I'd love to see more videos like this!
Great video Brandon! I like the more candid feel to the video, and the cut ins where you explain a bit of you thinking as it's happening instead of just recording your thoughts after it's all done.
Trying to draw anything, including pixel art, on a trackpad is probably one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever experienced, so seeing that you use one both impresses me and makes me question everything I’ve ever made
As a former trackpad user who now suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome, I implore you to use something more ergonomic. It may be convenient now, but I wish someone had warned me years ago. Amazing art btw, love your channel. You’re an inspiration.
Amazing design. Would be great to have the community experiment with this kind of design in the future, like have a game jam around an environment and/or character set that you create in a video. In short, I would love to have this thing in a playable form. The mood you have set is well thought and I haven't really played a pixel-art survival-horror Resident evil inspired game before.
I loved the new format! Keep up the great content. I watch you're videos while waiting for match makin in online games, so thanks for saving me from boredom.
I've been watching your videos quite a bit over the last month. It has helped me a bunch as a beginner! And your video's are sinply enjoyable too. Keep it up!
Oh wow, I could already tell there was going to be something different about this vid just from the thumbnail. That was a really fun video format!! It must've been way more effort but I hope to see it again 😁 The art is really cool too. I really enjoy this concept of a pixel-style survival game! You definitely nailed the atmosphere with the placement of objects and creating the mood in that room 😱 that surprise cameow tho!! 🐈⬛✨
Hahahaha "cameow" 😂 Thanks dude, think I'll have to explore this format again - perhaps whenever I do these kind of one-day approaches! And yeah the survival concept is a fun thing to imagine in this fidelity - I think it works really well for the idea of having a lot of small isolated rooms to explore :D
@@BJGpixel Haha totally, I'm just imagining what a few players in a voice call might look like jumping around a room like that 😂 That might be a fun challenge actually - animating a few players and giving them personalities through their movement patterns rather than the actual animations! 😱
@@CKTDanny Yeah true! You could have different pacing frequencies and paths. And of course there'd be one dude who's either afk or just hogging one of the machines all to themselves 😂
It's lovely how, despite your channel now having quite the following, you've managed to maintain the style that made it unique in the first place instead of devolving into the generic TH-camr persona. Keep going, tiny squares man. :)
Whenever I try to think of a name fast, I always end up with James shuhsuhs Nice video as always, and it's indeed umbelievable to see you working with the mousepad xD
I really like the new format of this videos! And I admire your skill working on laptop touch pad. I always use mouse haha I struggle even with moving folders around without mouse 🐭😁 Another great tutorial! 🔥
Thanks so much, it was fun to experiment with a different format! ☺️👍 Hahaha yeah I totally get that, bet I would have the same problem if I went back to a mouse for my art at this point 😅
you work on your track pad?!!!... you sir are a maniac (in a good sense) besides a minor use of it for something like excel almost no one uses the track pad at all lol. I salute you o7
Really nice video, it was nice to see someone using a trackpad for pixel art (A fair amount of Ye Olden Times used, of all things, *plotters*, so you're technically carrying on a fine tradition), and it was kinda cool to put a face to the name. Thanks for the vid, I loved it! :3 Also, y'know, cat. Can never have enough cat.
Great, as always! I have a question, having seen a video on classic doom where they build clay models of the monsters, made photographs from all angles and in all phases only to draw the sprites with this. How much of help would this be in comparision to pixeling from start?
You've really inspired me to make pixel art as well and I've been using photoshop also. I was wondering if you can make a video on the different keyboard shortcuts you use when making pixel art.
Wow. Seeing the whole process was really quite informative. Seeing your videos always makes me want to open aseprite and work on something and seeing the process like this, especially so. I guess, off to scratch that pixel art making itch. Though before that, great video as always. Excited to learn more from the next one.
