It's why they're so shocked when Ricky speaks after the song, and we know it's not just because they're in a song, as we see in 'What The World Needs', Noel makes a comment about what Ocean said about Constance, meaning they're aware of what is being said unlike in other musicals. If they know what is being said, they would have noticed that Rickey was speaking prior.
If you watch an actual clip of the show (not just lyrics), you'll see that Ricky's mouth never opens or moves.
(I have gone and checked all which I have said so I'm not just saying random things, I checked beforehand.)
