I want to say I have forwarded many of your videos - but your short, four minute kratky one from a while back mostly. Nowadays with the world so nutty, I believe it is really important for people to be growing - or at least supplement growing, what they eat. In a SHTF scenario - you definitely don’t want to have an outdoor garden for all who are hungry, to see. Your four minute video on Kratky someone sent me years ago - is THE PERFECT INTRODUCTORY VIDEO and has kept me growing ALL KINDS of herbs/veggies for 247/7/365 for years now - on a bakers rack with some black tubs and led’s. We eat from our Indoor kratky garden DAILY. I honestly believe every single household needs a 3d printer and a kratky setup. I could go on for hours on all we have grown, and tried - with ZERO bugs, or need to treat chemically…anyway. Thanks a lot for changing our lives, for sure. 👊🏽

Making macreme planters have made me able to fit about 16 to 18 plants in my tiny 2x8 ft balcony. Earlier i had half the number of plants in the same space it felt congested, cluttered and disorganized. I've made the macreme planters myself but had to buy the s hooks so got it all that done for less than abt $15.
Edit: i can fit about 8 or 9 more if i drilled holes and mounted stands into walls...i hang the others from the overhanging grills of the balcony

Yes perfect timing! I currently live in a SE facing apartment in MD with a 4x9 foot balcony. My balcony is full of grow bags for cucumbers, tomatoes, tomatillo, zucchini, mini squashes and melons, etc., as well as a vertical structure of herbs and of strawberries. I also turned my second bedroom into my garden room with an indoor planter table next to my big window - that’s where I’m growing leafy greens and some cooler temperature root veggies.
Still finding that I’m running out of space and need to get more crafty with it, so this is perfect timing 😊

I grew that spacemaster cucumber last year. It definitely did not disappoint. I couldn't believe what I got out of so little plant.

When I first started growing we lived in an apartment with no balcony. Using grow lights and grow bags we were able to put together a pretty impressive little indoor garden! Luckily we have moved to a house with some room and have a large garden now, but it's nice to have the knowledge of small space gardening because we still use some of that knowledge even now with our large garden! Awesome video!
I'm used to small space gardening. In 2019, when I was able to garden at home, I used fabric pots. In one I grew an Early Girl tomato plant, some marigolds and nasturtiums, and a couple of market more type cucumber plants. In the other two, I grew California Wonder pepper plants, bunching onions, and marigolds.

After almost 2 years gardening research I still to struggle to know which plants to plant together in my raised beds. Maybe in time I will get there. I did sew my own grow bags last fall but only used them for my seedling transplants before planting. I need try your grow bag area tip! I keep watching your videos... and take chances!

My 3 year old daughter has a toy phone with that same exact ringtone. I’m laying her down in her room right now while watching this and let’s just say I was tripping for a minute. Lol
I keep on learning in my little tiny classroom here on my quarter acre. Put up a privacy fence in the back and I've got that thing jam-packed! Been taking steps since 2019 and I'm getting there. I had a five-year goal I'm working towards it. I'll see you at the homesteaders of America conference and October! I bought tickets as soon as they announced it. I've never been and I have been saving to go. I don't know how you left a six-figure income when I can't even leave a 41k😂
But I plan on moving back down to where my family is in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Kentucky! Haven't got all that worked out, but I garden, my freeze dryer is on its way, I put things in the pantry. All the things. But until I get out of this neighborhood in Ohio, I can't really do much else!! See y'all! I can't wait to meet everyone that I feel like I love like family, now! I hope to see Jessica, big time!
I've got family that lives a half an hour from her. Wouldn't that be a cool spot to transplant myself!? 😎

I've been growing peppers in 2 litre lemonade bottles made into drip irrigator pots put just in front of a south facing window. Just slice the top off as high as you can manage, drill a hole in the cap and put water in the bottom. It won't be enough soil for them if I let them get old enough but for the time being I've got about 16(technically 17, but two have inseperable root systems) pepper plants in that space, flowering and producing fruits. I could fit in even more but I'd need to get another shelf.
If you can use bigger and wider bottles, since you're gonna have to space them apart due to foliage anyway.
Everybody calls me crazy for crammin'. But Kevin does it in his raised beds and pots and grow bags. Me, I have a limited amount of space and only have 3 of 4x2 raised bed grow bags right now. I may get 2 or 3 metal beds for next season to add more plants and so my plants are not as close together because I feel I could be overcrowding. I really want to try my hand at sweet corn but that could potentially take up 1/3 or more of my yard which is also covered by a massive maple tree.
I absolutely looove these ideas! I don't have a problem with space but for me my backyard Is almost completely shade and I also live in tornado alley, so I'm constantly moving My plants around so your grow bags are how I'm gonna thrive soon 😅😂❤

I love your ideas. In my yard, which is mostly trees, plus s toddler play yard and a dog yard for 3 huskies, we don't have a lot of space. I made 3 4x4 short raised beds, 5 small tower planters that are 3 high, I is 5 high (dollar tree) and 8 14 inch pots. I love seeing your raised beds

I live on the second floor of an apartment building. Cramming is my mantra. Got permission from my roommates to attach some boxes to our railing since i'm out of floor space
I just bought some seeds! So excited. And like I was just adding them to cart all willy nilly and the total was only $26! What! I spend more than twice that whenever I buy plants

Amazing tips! I wish I would've known about your channel a few years ago when I dipped my toes into growing food
I also started my gardening on a patio in our last apartment. We were on the north side of the building with a 4x4 concrete slab and rock bed around that. I grew cherry tomatoes and peppers in 5 gallon buckets, moving them around at the beginning of the season to maximize sunlight. Small space gardening is definitely more labor intensive, but totally do able.
I'm lucky to be renting a house now with a small yard, and the landlord was very chill about letting me put in a raised bed, and my options are more open now. I'll still benefit from this video, as my growing space is still technically small. I still grow cherry tomatoes and peppers because they hold a special place in my heart because of those early days.

I went from having acres to grow if I chose last time I was watching your vids and now I'm growing in pots inside and around a studio!
I feel like your vids are going to be even more informative for me now I'm growing like yourself more so and not the massive spaced out beds I'm used to, been hitting some challenges so far as everything seems more sensitive but I also started at the start of winter just about when we got the house which doesn't help, already got 20 varieties and over 50 seedlings/plants so far.

I have a huge backyard but with an HOA, and I just found out my back neighbor loves to spy on me. I wanted a garden though, so I was going to have a garden in our first house no matter what. I'm disabled though, so I need really high raised beds with a lot of space between them. I'm starting with just 4 small-ish beds. My FIL is full of experience and gave me tools and gardening books, not to mention contact info for our local extension office. My nephew and niece just helped me finish setting up and planting a bunch of fall veggies 3 days ago! I don't expect much for my first year, but that's not going to stop me from trying!

I agree with cramming. I grow on my terrace on the ninth floor.. my daughter asked me how many plants i have,.. i said i dont know. But i grow the most i can. I even have a fruiting plum, and other fruit up here. Cram

Definitely a small space gardener here in my no balcony, window sill, bamboo shelving, and grow bag garden in my dining room here in NYC!✋🏿I definitely want to take advantage of vertical space but tight now I need to seriously invest in some good grow lights. I am currently using DOMMIA Grow Lights. This year is I am growing my first set of vegetables and it has been interesting. The romaine lettuce is totally stretched out so much so you wouldn't know it was romaine by looking at it. 🤣 I knew the neighboring building blocked a good amount of sunlight in the dining but compared to the other rooms its the brightest room it turns out it is no where near intense enough for the lettuce. The cherry tomatoes were stretched too but the stems are thickening up so it should be good. Definitely continue with the small space series!!

Mini bell tomatoes are the best for patios. They don’t need cages and they only get a foot high

Ah well timed. Even with a decent backyard, I am going to try cramming and more verticality. Also, hoping thay reduces pest pressure in my beds. And l am def looking into comfrey now!
Useful idea i will use this in my garden
I was experimenting with tomatoes and didn't want dirt water to drip down to my neighbors below so ended up making "grow bags" with Amazon grocery bags, trash bags, duct tape and coke bottles with holes. Actually worked really well on an almost no budget. 😂
Be careful using plastic like that. If it's not food grade plastic, toxic chemicals can leak into the vegetables. And even plastic water bottles have been found to have a lot of microplastics.

Hi, love all your gardening tips. Question: Can I use the 4 cell 4 inch small garden starter kit to start scallions from seed and then leave them to grow without transplanting elsewhere? I want to grow in a small kitchen window space. Thanks for any hints you can provide.

I have a tip for space saving tomato with good yield... Grow the mongolian dwarf tomato 🙂 Biggest tomato can weight 150-200 grams each. Only downside is that it might need support for those tomatos
