Me late at night; How does someone take care of a horse? (Despite the fact I’ll probably never care for one) This video was very informative and interesting!! Also it is so clear you truly care for the horses and I love it!!
This young lady does so many things right! However, she did forget to mention in the water section, that clean, fresh water on a daily basis, in a clean water trough, is equally as important as having water available, all the time!
@@shawnaweesner3759 Hello! So you seem to know a lot about horses so I have a question. When you get a horse, can you just get just one or will they get lonely without another horse, or do they just like to be alone with the company of humans?
@@noratrachtenberg2346 that usually depends on the horse and the barn! normally if you are boarding a horse there will be others horses there but if your horse does get lonely then you can but lots of people get other animals for their horses! like sheep dogs and etc. but you can do more research of what animal you get.
@@noratrachtenberg2346 If you choose to get a companion for your steed, please have them meet beforehand. If they don't get along, it can go quite badly. You seem sensible, though, haha, so you probably thought of that already
I live in the city but love horses so I take riding lessons every week. I’m super sad that I didn’t get to grow up with horses so I want my future children to have that experience. This was so helpful. Thanks you so much!
0:18 moving into a little loft on a farm with three horses. One show (quarter horse, I think, not sure), a mini horse and a rescue Mustang. I'll be tending them from time to time. I am SO excited!
My mom’s boyfriend is an outfitter, and has several horses that are 20 and need to retire. He’s helping us build a barn, and we will be gifted two of them. I’m so excited!
I am getting my first horse in a couple weeks and your videos have been so helpful! I am getting a big paint horse that I found through a friend. I am an experienced rider, but first-time horse owner. Thank you for all you do!!
Hi, we are going to an auction to see if we can get some land to live on! It comes with an amazing Horse arena and stalls! If we get the land we will get horses to ride and be our pets. Edit: We won the auction!!! The land is ours!!!!
I don’t own a horse but I’m in college for veterinary technician and your videos are helping so much between learning about horses and their care but also it’s helping me to see a bigger picture and will help me in my studies so I’m so thankful that I found your videos.
I'm looking to volunteer at a local stable. Maybe for lessons, mostly for the experience in large animal care. I genuinely love the hard work that comes with taking care of animals. Thank you for this awesome guide, it helps me know what I'm getting into!

Gather your info now. Learn on your friends’ horses. I was 53 before i got my first horse. She is a registered Morgan mare, and she was pregnant when i got her, so now i have two. And am enjoying training and working with them both.
I love your videos, you & Tucker! I’m super new to riding. I’ve been taking lesson for just a few months and was so afraid of horses before that. Now I’m hooked and hope to own or lease a horse in about a year. Meanwhile, I fully swoon over my lesson horse. Thanks for all of if you’re super helpful videos and your great attitude. I'm currently looking into horse riding lessons. I've been wanting a horse my entire life but wanted to get lessons and learn before getting one. I have owned alot of animals in my life time and have always done my research before getting them. This video helps out alot so I'm happy I found it.
Yes, research is ESSENTIAL when it comes to keeping animals. Especially horses, which are delicate 1000+ lb animals. Always remember that their environment must be completely free of hazards because their instincts are to flee when in danger - they don't stop and think first. Also, about grass: In some areas of the country grass is extremely rich and access to it must be limited, or a horse can founder. A mixture of grass and a timothy type hay is good in these situations. This lady's advice about consulting experienced horse owners is really good. Horses are truly special, and I hope you end up owning a great one.
I just bought my first horse, a 15yo fox trotter gelding! He's a western trail horse, but we're going to start training some jumping/cross country as well!
My first horse will be arriving in two weeks. He’s a 6 yr old Tennessee Walking horse; gelding. I’m a 57 yr old lady, and I’m pretty nervous. I can’t thank you enough for your videos!
Tucker is one very lucky, and well loved horsey. It’s heartwarming to watch any animal to be well cared for, especially since there is so much readily available information out there for animal care of any kind. There is no excuse for people not to know how to train, and care for their pets properly.
One of the first things we learned after we bought our horse was their stomachs produce tons of acid and horses can't go too long before eating , so they want to graze all day. Good info in the video!
I’m loving learning so much about horses, I think it’s important to learn before jumping into this commitment and cost. I’ve been volunteering with my local Riding for the Disabled Association for over a year and feed our horses on Fridays, doing groundwork and lunging with a horse at my dad’s house, and of course, watching your videos! Hi from Australia! Fly spray/veil is absolutely necessary in summer!
Love the video! I'm still pretty new to the world of caring for horses, but videos and resources like this make it so much easier to figure everything out :)

Love this! I fed our horses as a kid. I'm 55 now and want to start a horse feeding and caregiver service here in Apache Junction, Arizona. Liked and subscribed. 😀
I have just been gifted a standardbred mare from a good friend of mine. I was looking into purchasing my first horse and I asked him what would be a good breed and he told me he would give me one of his because he was downsizing his stable. I will admit I am a beginner here for taking care of a horse but I am a quick learner.
I am about to get a horse right after I learn to ride it. I plan to first, do some competing skills for some ribbons. then I'll start getting into the real deal- racing-. Good practical horse sense, I'm an old ranch hand and farrier retired now. I wish more people I dealt with had watched something like this before they decided they wanted to "be a horse owner" on a whim.
I've always dreamed of having horses. Hopefully in the next year or two I'll be in a place where that is possible - or at least that is the goal I'm working towards. Anyway, I decided to start researching care methods and whatnot now as I am inexperienced as a whole. So far your channel has been really informative and great, thank you.
We don't have horses but my parents are talking about purchasing a farm and they've decided horses could very well be a possibility on the future! Quite excited about that. I've decided I'd like to be well versed in looking after horses now.
I am getting a brown mare this Saturday! I am planning on working with it in my riding lessons I take, hopefully I will be able to go to competitions in a few years! I really agree with the grass thing, plus it saves money.

I appreciate your videos; I learn much from them. I'm house.sitting a place with horses. I have limited experience tending to horses. After 6mos. I now feel comfortable to be in the same space as them. I have begun to brush them. And Ihave an interested to bathe them. Your style is very comfortable to me & iam learning. The horses(2), are open range, on hilly land. They enjoy being near the other farm animals, including the humans. I am attacked to the 'horse whisper' approach. Thank you
I got my pony a week ago! He’s 12 y/o, 14.2hh, a Friesian cross with QH, and he’s very athletic. I hope to get back into hunter jumper showing. Love your videos :)
I just recently started the process of buying a horse, i am doing my due diligence before i actually throw down 3k. Thank you so much for the information, I still have tons of questions lol
I will be house and pet sitting soon for a friend. I have experience with dogs and cats but my next job involves three horses, all over twenty years old. Of course, I was shown what to do but this video helped me understand some of the “why”.
Great Video! I’m looking to buy my first horse ( shire) and a ranch soon. My love of horses goes back as far as I can remember. When I was a kid I helped my neighbors who were in rodeo with their horses until there was a n accident and he passed away. I haven’t had much chance to be back around horses but it is my dream to this day! Thanks for the info!
Some day I hope to have a horse. Time is running out..I love watching you. I take lessons and will continue to learn more about horses. Just cause I love them.
I'm getting into foster one of the horses from a place I volunteer at for mistreated horses and I love taking care of animals that been miss treated so I took the idea of doing my part of fostering one of the mistreated horses.
Last year I started saving my money. I didn’t know what I would use it for, but I saved up 7,345 dollars. I recently decided I wanted a horse, so I started researching! Tysm!
Thank you, I'm planning on my 1st horse next year and want to be ready. I've signed up for riding classes and I'm so excited. I'm going to watch all your videos. Thank you so much. Tucker is so handsome.
An opportunity to adopt a retired police horse has been presented but I have absolutely zero experience. I’m a little nervous about getting in over my head. Your videos have been SO informative. Thank you!
Hi Carmella, I absolutely love your videos, I've been watching them for some time now. Your videos, as far as I'm concerned, are the best. Not just the content that is always excellent but the way that you are and the way the video is put together. I'm a 67-year-old guy that can't hear as well as I did when I was your age but your articulation is perfect always, you're always happy, your ranch is a big piece of heaven and I love to look around. There is never any wind noise on your mic. The videos are always perfect both in content and technically. Thank you for putting together such fine work. I'll be watching a lot more of your videos because I'm purchasing a new horse, the first horse I've ever owned, I ride friends other horses now. I'm so excited. He's an 8 year old gelding, big Paint that's absolutely beautiful. His feet are beautiful and bare. I have the PPE next week mid-week. I do have a question for you if you don't mind. He's with a ranch now that does boarding and training but he's owned by an older gal that doesn't want to ride any horse. When she did ride him it was always in the arena. He's trailers well I'm told but he's not spent much time outside the arena, stall and paddock. His new home will be a friend of mine's ranch with about 7 other horses. The main herd will be in a pasture adjacent to his pasture which he'll share with one large mare Paint. While I was with him yesterday I took him for a walk around the ranch on a lead rope. You can tell he's tense about a lot of things like the car, the goats, etc. I never felt like he wanted to bolt it's just all new to him. His new home is rural land surrounded by orchards & pastures, it's a wonderful place for him. Can you help me determine what's the best way to assimilate him into his new surroundings? Thank you very much. BTW what state are you guys in? Your ranch is sooooo beautiful, AND your videos are the absolute BEST!!! Dave
Thanks so much for this! I was telling my sister that I wanted to get a Tennessee Walker and an Arabian! My neighbor texted me and asked if I wanted her two horses (an Aribian and a Tennessee Walker!!) I am super excited to get them! The only struggle is the hay.😔
Thank you so much for this video. Im currently thinking of getting my first horse to share with my daughter and this is the information I was looking for xxx
My father rescued a horse just today! It’s like 12AM right now. She’s downstairs. She’s a female, and she’s pregnant! She’s on her 7th month now, we haven’t named her yet, we got a couple of names to choose from: Rosette, Amber, Millie or Lady. She’s beautiful. She was always in a cramped space with a lot of other horses. Glad dad brought her when he did, I’ve never taken care of a horse. I’m trying to learn through E-books and TH-cam videos. Thank you for this video! Wish me luck. :)
Hello thanks so much for the video, Me and my mum just rescued a starved 12 yr old we dont know what breed he is but he is a chestnut and he is very sweet and i want to learn everything i can

I ended up with a mule someone else needed to get rid of. I haven't had a horse in 30 years. We're learning on every interaction, mostly who is the boss.
My grandma has a horse and my grandma just got surgery she has a brown mustang and it is so pretty I have been going with her to the barn with her horse for a while and I am just learning the basics I've rode a horse before and it was so fun
I used to own pretty horse whenever I was younger, so I missed HIM! He old now and he such a good boy, I am super excited to learn how to take care of animals so one day I can have one again maybe one DAY I will be super happy to have a horse on day again :)
Hi I'm getting a horse and I'm 13 and I have to look after it myself and I'm trying to get all the experience and knowledge so that the horse will be safe and I will be safe riding and looking after the horses your videos are so helpful thank you
I’m getting a few horses in the next 2 years. The reason why it’s the next 2 years is because I will need to do a lot of work on the farm. One thing I would like to add is don’t cheap out on fencing and if you live somewhere hellishly cold, make sure there are stalls. Starting with the fencing, barbed wire fence is dangerous to them for obvious reasons. If you want to save on vet bills, barbed wire fence is not what you need. Metal fencing is preferable but if that’s too expensive then wood fencing is the best option. As for the stalls, where I live it gets to -50°C on occasion. We literally become the coldest place on earth once a year for a week. Most animals can only tolerate down to -40°C without shelter. While a blanket can help with most of the body, parts of their bodies that aren’t fatty, covered in hair, or longer parts of the body will probably get frostbite. During those horribly cold weeks, they’ll need a well insulated place to stay. That being said, if you live in a cold place, you should consider a breed that grows a coat that’s thick enough to handle it.
Thank u, most of it I was aware of, some things I was not. I have lessons for now, timing is everything. But my plan to get a horse since I was a child, still waiting , now at 41 . Not giving up on the dream
I never owned a horse but a friend loves all animals she saved a lot of horses. During COVID-19, her husband and her moved to a farm. We wanted to volunteer at a horse therapy place. I have disabilities from two strokes. I rode in the Tetons and a donkey in a smaller canyon in Utah. I can not drive. Transition in my state is awful. My home town is more of a driving town. The disability transportation in my state and city, county is awful. I was watching a guy go across America on his three horses. I know people rode horses before cars. So I'm just researching about a therapeutic horse to ride for transportation. 😃 I liked the horses that are spotted the ones that are white and black, white and brown, and the ones that have fur over their hooves. Going to the beach from my city is about three hours by car. It can be around 174 miles to 240.
Buying a 15-year-old registered Halflinger gelding. He lives at a riding stable now, used for lessons and camp. He is for sale, and the stable is full care outside, with a full barn when needed. The owner has 10 horses and wants to sell a few. Arista will live there where he has been for five years, the stable is only a few minutes from my house. I have watched a lot of your videos.
We just adopted a 19 year old Standardbred. He will be doing light riding but right now we go and spend time with him and do groundwork. His name is Stewart and he loves my 7 year old daughter.
I purchased a small (5 acre) homestead and my sister is gifting me two of her appaloosas that she rescued and trained - a mare that is 14 years old and a gelding that is 2 years old. I only have 1 acre cleared so far, and I have clean well water available at my barn.
I just got a foxtrotter gelding yesterday. It's my fifth horse here my like hundredth horse over time but this will be my first new main mount in a long time and my daughter said dad...let go of cowboy way and learn a girls way. Lol don't know if that makes sense. I'm loving your video and going to do it your way

Hey, everyone! I'm excited to announce that my Horse Care: Keys To Success course is now available! 🎉 If you or someone you know might be interested, you can learn all about it here: shop.equinehelper.com/courses/horse-care
I'm a tattoo artist and I used to take horseback lessons as a kid. But I haven't ridden since I 14 im 30 now hahah but I love all your videos they are so helpful. But I ended up trading a sleeve tattoo for a 9yr gelding he's an Appaloosa 16/17 hands and he's a sweetie
I appreciate your videos; I learn much from them.
I'm house.sitting a place with horses. I have limited experience tending to horses.

And Ihave an interested to bathe them.
Your style is very comfortable to me & iam learning.
The horses(2), are open range, on hilly land.
They enjoy being near the other farm animals, including the humans.
I am attacked to the 'horse whisper' approach.
Thank you
Im getting my horse on the 21st of this month. I had absolutely no idea about a lot of this but now i am educated.
Thank you for doing this. I don’t have an equine partner at the time. I’ve taken lessons and volunteered at stables. One fine day. Nice video!
I got my pony a week ago! He’s 12 y/o, 14.2hh, a Friesian cross with QH, and he’s very athletic. I hope to get back into hunter jumper showing. Love your videos :)
Sounds like a beautiful horse! Thanks for your support!
Equine Helper - Thank You So Very Much for your educational videos on horses. We all need help knowledge to take care of horses.
Some day I hope to have a horse. Time is running out..I love watching you. I take lessons and will continue to learn more about horses. Just cause I love them.

Thank you for all of these great videos! I just bought my first horse 2 weeks ago. She is a 2 year old Azteca filly.
While I was with him yesterday I took him for a walk around the ranch on a lead
rope. Dave
I like her videos and she seems like a genuinely nice person.
I'm trying to rescue 3 starving horses thank you so much sooooo helpful

My father rescued a horse just today! It’s like 12AM right now. She’s downstairs. She’s a female, and she’s pregnant! She’s on her 7th month now, we haven’t named her yet, we got a couple of names to choose from: Rosette, Amber, Millie or Lady. She’s beautiful. She was always in a cramped space with a lot of other horses. Glad dad brought her when he did, I’ve never taken care of a horse. I’m trying to learn through E-books and TH-cam videos. Thank you for this video! Wish me luck. :)
thecasualtrollingpuma I meant downstairs outside 😅, she’s got her own place now! We built her a fence and everything!
Update: her name is Rosette :)
She’s doing SO much better.

Thank you for making this video! My first horse Charlie just arrived!
Congrats!
I am addicted to your video. You are helping me so much
I’m getting a few horses in the next 2 years.
This is helpful even for a already equestrian! I love your videos 🐎❤️🐎
I liked the horses that are spotted the ones that are white and black, white and brown, and the ones that have fur over their hooves.
Hello I’m soon getting a quarter horse and I’m SUPER exited
We just adopted a 19 year old Standardbred. He will be doing light riding but right now we go and spend time with him and do groundwork. His name is Stewart and he loves my 7 year old daughter.
Im planning to get a horse one day and this really helped thank you.
