I own the 2024 Sierra EV. I Love it it’s great. As people have stated, the wireless charger is in the front slide storage below the screen toggles. You would never charge at 115. You need a 220v 40amp + EVSE. it still takes a while but when you normally only charge to 80% it’s not bad. From 30% to 80% is 12-13 hrs overnight. The pano glass is also tinted and thermal protected. The headlights also have side lights that turn on for added light when turning. They turn on when the wheel is turned a certain amount. Good thing about the one pedal driving is you never have to use if you don’t like it. Drive it normal. When you step on the break it uses the regen until maxed then automatically uses the brake. Seamless. Glad you took a test drive. My phone hooks up with the truck in every way that Apple car play does except the Apple Maps so it’s not a big deal.
Good looking truck. I'm disappointed they didn't put a true "Denali" grill on the front. Event if they did a 2-dimensional grill or special painted pattern they completely missed the opportunity to put the most distinct Denali badge of all on the truck.
FYI that fear of stopping and charging goes away once you wrap your head around how you charge an EV. Yes IF you were going to drive it to zero and recharge it to 100 like you do a gas truck it would take hours (actually just 1 hour in this truck it charges fast but thats still too long) but thats not how you do it. You charge it in short bursts when you stop to use the washroom or eat. For example I ploted a trip from Ontario Canada to Nashville Tennessee. 13hrs or so. The suggested route included 2 charging stops. The first for 22 minutes (sounds like a great time to grab a coffee and use the washroom after 400 miles! And a second one for 40 minutes.. think I'll be ready for dinner and a leg stretch after 10hrs on the road..
There seems to be a lot of pearl clutching when it comes to EV’s and people who are dead set against them for with no valid reason. When I was shopping for a new vehicle, I considered an EV but at the time the availability with GM and Chevy was just not feasible for me and the price was 40 grand more than what I paid for my Sierra elevation so that was a no go for me as well.
I'm a GM guy...I currently have a 2024 1/2 ton denali....i don't think this deserves the denali badge....a lot of plastic and no Denali grill.... hard to judge through the camera lens, but the ride seemed really choppy or rough maybe the tires being inflated to 440 K PA has something to do with it. I'm not against electric vehicles but a lot has to change or improve before I lay down that kind of cash. Thanks for the review. It was a great video.
Drove one a couple weeks ago, liked the truck but not the price. The unknown resale value in 3 or 4 years is a big chance to take in my view.Maybe in a couple years we’ll have a better feel for things.Again nothing bad to say about the truck itself.
Don I have the same truck as you except I have the 3.0 Duramax. Same year. My next truck will be the Sierra EV. I want it to be out for a year or so to shake out bugs. This is new territory. This is not the first EV GM has made but we are still in the infancy of the tech and I am very experienced in electrical.
I'm not ready to give up my gas, but like Don said, that time will be here someday. That said I do like the looks of the Sierra and glad GM didn't go the "looks nothing like a truck" route. But the body pieces at the back of the cab and mid gate??? I don't know of anyone anywhere ever saying they missed the styling of the Chevy Avalanche!
I had 3 Avalanches. Still have my 2004 Z71. My 2002 was written off by my nephew. 2013, the wife wrote off in a freak winter storm. I buy another in a heartbeat. The 2002 had 400+K kms. Th2 2013 had 389,652 when written off. The Z71 has 552,180 kms and is still going. Yes, I have a 1500 Denali, but that's only because the 2013 was wrecked this April. The midgate is awesome. I had the tent for the 2002, loved it. The only reason I even would look at this EV is the midgate. Otherwise, the sheer heft of this, and the need to sit for a while to charge on a longer trip (Edmonton to Vancouver for example) is not going to happen for me, especially in winter. 2 minutes for a full tank in Kamloops vs 30 mins just to get some range...no thanks.
I kept my 2002 avalanche 18 years. I liked the pass thru and bed cover. It was not perfect but very useful. I'll take it with a 6.2 gasser. I turned down the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 I reserved after waiting 2 years. I figured having 220 outlet in 3 buildings would be a big help.
I went back on the vehicle to try and see where you’re talking about. Are you talking about the black buttons that are at the bottom of the screen that face upwards?
Just to correct some misinformation given by the salesperson...yes you might get 3 KM/hr. charging at home from a 120v outlet, but no one does that. We use 50a 240v outlets to charge our EVs, and they'll pull 8.6 KW/hr.- which in the Denali would work out to about 20 miles/hr. or 32 km/hr. We never waste time charging our vehicles, because they charge while we sleep, and on rare long road trips, they charge while we eat. The amount of time we've not wasted at gas stations over the last three years is significant. The vehicles are simply ready to go every day when we go to the garage. If someone drives 400 miles a day, every day, an EV isn't the right choice. Most of us drive much less than 100 miles/day, and the Denali EV would require less than six hours on a 50a circuit to replace the energy required to drive 100 miles. Cost to charge at home is roughly 1/3 the cost it would charge to fuel with gas. Charging at a DCFC is generally equivalent to the cost to fuel with gas.
The people hating on electric vehicles haven’t owned one! Plugging in and having a full charge in the morning is awesome. Filling up at home will cost 1/3 the price of a gas Denali using premium fuel for the 6.2! The charging infrastructure will get better with time. 460 miles is a huge range, the lack of maintenance is also a plus. No oil changes, no tune up, no spark plugs replacing, no fuel filter changes. The only problem will be the tire replacement with all that power and weight.
While I don't hate EV's, and actually looked at the EV GMC, I will always say the same thing when people bring up maintenance. Most of the maintenance is now so far apart its moot. This isn't your father's 1970 Nova, with points, bad plugs, etc. Tune ups are a thing of the past for the most part. Oil changes are 15 minutes, a wrench, and a beer. Fuel Filters last the life of the car for most drivers. So, in a true apples to apples comparison, in 20243 - hell 1995 - these costs are minimal. You sill buy tires, and with this one, more expensive tires. You still have to wash, maintain, and care for the interior/exterior. The cost of setting your house up to charge, especially with something faster than 110/115V/15A is huge. You then trade a fuel bill for a larger electric bill. With the surcharges on consumption in my area, this eviscerates the advantage, as small as it is, Then there's the weight. 9000# is probably going to get this into the realm of commercial licensing. There are already threats to that. Finally. Battery. They are not a forever tool. Ungodly expensive. Still, don't disregard the EV. Just look at it with a full lifecycle and supply chain in mind. Plus, until it can make 300kms one way, in -30, snow, lights on, wipers on, heat blasting, and be able to be refilled in 2 minutes like my gas vehicle, no thanks.
I think that I like the idea of a hybrid a lot more. But I’m not going to say that I don’t like it. I’ll bet that in an electric vehicle like that. A rattle would drive you nuts. My poor old Silverado is a 2017. And I still haven’t figured it all out yet. But the larger screen is definitely on the list. I do like that the rumble(Mother in law) seat. Now is moved to the front. And comes with a roof. There’s enough hinges and lids to have a lot more than one rattle.
I am very skeptic of All Wheel Electric Drive vehicles, lots of things that can go wrong/bad. And as most the Cost of Charging and Time involved, couple this with the locations where to charge on long range driving. I wonder about the Cold affecting the Battery Charge and Life. Just not for me. Thank You for this video Don. Get ready for the Great White North to arrive.
wireless charger is the wood grain tray. Love this truck I'll have one of these in the next two years no doubt, but I'm already full in on EV we have two in the garage now and have had three others prior. I still have my HD2500 out in the drive for the trips to areas that just don't have the charging infrastructure just yet. I'm not a fan of all the laws forcing EV on manufacturers or customers in the US, so I can see why those who just haven't had the chance to experience them might have some reservations on them, but I can tell you it is so much easier than ICE cars it isn't even funny. Of course, there are still large areas of the US and even more so in Canada, that just don't have the infrastructure, so it still doesn't make sense for everyone. I wish people weren't so close minded when they haven't had a chance to experience it firsthand.
Dash is not supposed to rattle when it's new. Or at all but that's why I never been a American vehicle fan. I like this truck though. But Lucid Gravity Grand Touring is the winner in my book.

Love the larger screen, however Chevy just recalled their recent Silverado for software update so not sure I trust GMC with software - kind of like Tesla with mechanical issues. And if grid starts crapping out invest in solar panels on your roof
Not a fan of this electric crap
I don’t like being told what to do either
