I recall one of my sister's old boyfriends, who was gifted in mathematics, taking an exam for the Fire department. He THOUGHT that he did well on the exam, but a problem occurred in the psychological portion of the exam, that ultimately excluded him from becoming a fireman. Today, he is an independent CPA, doing extremely well. In hindsight, he knows that the exam was biased, etc. but he became a success nonetheless. I am very happy that he ended up OWNING his business as opposed to WORKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

I took a professional math exam, and the proctor HID MY EXAM. When I received my scores, it indicated that I hadn't submitted an entire portion of the math exam (the portion the proctor hid). I called everyone's supervisor and more to report her and to receive my correct math score, which was stellar. That occurred just a few years ago. Before you ask, yes, she was.

Yes just because some people are prejudice doesn’t mean all are. I was married to a man who was half German and half Puerto Rican. When he applied to the police force he checked off he was Caucasian because he did not know his father who was of Puerto Rican descent born in Puerto Rico and was raised by his mother and grandfather who were born in the US.at the time there were know Caucasian Hispanic or Caucasian - other ethnicities listed to check- Iowa’s a matter of choosing one or the other. He did not speak Spanish and he was not ashamed and was proud to be both Puerto Rican and German. About 5 yrs before when he was 17 his mother remarried and he was adopted by his stepfather even though he would be 18 ina year. So his last name changed from Olmo to Jones. It was obvious that he was not trying to conceal his heritage; his first name was Hector; therefore a hint he was most likely part Hispanic. When he applied and it was noticed that he was part Caucasian and part Hispanic he was reprimanded and told he should have checked marked he was Hispanic and he explained that he could have checked off either and have been correct and said how was I to know I was suppose to choose one ethnicity or the other. And he also explained he grew up with his mother’s side of the family and some German traditions and not with any Hispanic customs. He was told to chamber his ethnicity choice and check mark Hispanic. Honestly I felt back then that people should have had the opportunity to either check 2 ethnicities if they applied or been able to explain anything that could be questioned being it was a question that was not clearly able to be answered by some people without additional information. My husband knew at the time that they wanted him to check Hispanic because the township was required to have a certain amt. of minority people apply and be accepted or else they could be accused of prdjudice. He and I felt that was unfair being it increased his chances of being hired because of his ethnic background. Not that he wasn’t qualified or have not been chosen on his merit but he felt he was appointed he wanted to know he earned it and fairly.and that someone who deserved the job more could’ve been passed up. I believe in the end he had earned his spot. He was already a college police officer and therefore did not have to go through the academy and needed orientation and initial general acclamation to his job. The township reimbursed the college for his tuition being he only worked fir the college for one year after graduating the police academy. He was also a hard worker and excellent marksman. But it was still the idea of how there being a quota with minority people.

The struggle is real. The struggle continues. We need to own our businesses, so we can create jobs, opportunities, and training for our own. When we try to build our own communities they are destroyed like Greenwood , OK. or Rosewood FL. (and so many others)We are forced to pay taxes, pay utilities, and rely on the dominant community; which uses our reliance to control us. We dare not speak of it, or we are harassed. (or worse). We don't even control our own media, so we can control our own narratives, and images. I appreciate what this channel does to bring lost movies to our community. We are currently being locked out. The entertainment produced now is trash. At least the blaxploitation films of the 70's revealed some of the struggle , and opened dialogue. Now everything is masked, and people think we live in a "post racial" society. (whatever that means)

Quick factoid: the opening electronic music is by TONTO’s Expanding Headband. TONTO, of course, is the giant synthesizer system Stevie Wonder used throughout his classic period, and is still functional over 50 years after it was built.

"This" lasted within many professions for quite some time. In our city's fire department up until the late 1990's
A couple of years ago, I could smell smoke coming from the upper floors of the building and called the FD
I was both surprised and delighted to see almost all of the five or six responders were of color, successfully reaching their goal and not being barred from getting in because of their pigmentation.

This is definitely a true story and this racist hazing stuff does happen. My ex worked for a small fire department in Texas, only black there, hazed daily. They made monkey sounds, left bananas around, lil slick drawings and notes etc. One day a white coworker called him a N and he was fed up and snapped, beat the brakes off his ass. The guy tried to sue him, he lost his job, charges were pressed and they tried to give him 10 years. He did do some time, just not 10. He had to start over and rebuild his life over with a new career. Goes to show you mess with the wrong one and you will get what you want. That one ass whipping may teach them not to try that shit again. Everybody is not gonna tolerate the condescending, disrespectful remarks and jokes…..

This a MOVIE from the BLACK EXSPOTATION ERA of BLACK AMERICAN CINEMA ERA of HOLLYWOOD . Most REMEMBER the FILMS of that ERA in FILM MAKING as the FILMS meant to DRAW the MASSES of the BLACK and WHITE PUBLIC do not get ME WRONG on this they were GOOD FILMS SUPER FLY , FOXY BROWN and other FILMS of that TYPE . A L lot of GREAT FILM'S were also MADE during ng that ERA as WELL .Unless YOU really LOVED MOVIE'S a GREAT MANY of them were OVERLOOKED by the GENERAL PUBLIC during that ERA . This FILM is just one of MANY during that PERIOD . A GREAT MANY BLACK ACTORS and ACTRESSES WHOM were to become EXSTREAMLY INFLUENCE in BLACK MOTION PITCHERS rose out that ERA. CICLY TYSON , PAUL WINFIELD, RICHARD ROUND TREE , ROSCOE LEE BROWN , and so many MORE. . This ERA in BLACK CINEMA is USUALLY TALKED about not in these TERMS EXCEPT by FILM STUDENTS , but the GENERAL PUBLIC needs to be MORE INFORMED about this ERA in BLACK CINEMA , for some of the GREAT NAMES in TODAYS BLACK FILMS these we're there TEACHERS those that HELP them RISE . TWO NAMES I should be SHOT for not saying though OSSIE DAVIS and his WIFE RUDY DEE the FIRST BLACK COUPLE of HOLLYWOOD.

Good movie but I have a feeling a fireman’s life as far as his coworkers go is not as difficult as displayed in thus movie today. I think with our world the way it is today if your a fireman you really care about helping and saving other. People and I believe as far as the fur,en themselves they really care and look out and protect their coworkers . Being it is such a tough and dangerous job I think makes them even more close comrade and even more of a team working together. As far as the arson issue I think unfortunately it’s still prevalent crime and concerning and sad that some sick people would stoop do such a thing. I do think the issue with the fireman who list his life and his his friends felt is definately realistic however I would hope that no matter what racer, religion it differences people have would not be prejudice and that people unite with the thought that all life matters. I know in the past few years predjudice is pretty prevalent - it’s a shame that since things have gotten better over many years since slavery people should have come along way towards eradicating oredjudice not move backwards. The only way our world can become a better place is if predjuduce, kindness and peace start right here at home meaning in our own cities, states, countries etc.

Prejudice has been prevalent for many years than just the last few.
My husband is a firefighter here in an Ohio town (I'm originally from Chicago). There is DEFINITELY still racism in the fire department - even more than the police department. It's not only here as we have read about similar situations that my husband has experienced in other places. Just FYI.
