    This is my favorite diesel sedan. The 1978-80 w116 300SD. In my opinion this is the last of the great classic Mercedes where the engineers were told to make the best car possible and spare no expense.

    Like the video. I have a 1978 300SD car number 254 motor number 154. Am its third care giver. My car is just broken in with 733,000 miles. It is resting due to a tarnny issue. This year plain to get the issue fixed. Great driver good fuel milage also.

    I've always had a soft spot for 123 and 126 Chassis with Euro lights and bumpers. This just made me fall in love with the 116.

    The blue is one of my favorite colors. The anodized aluminum is pristine! The car runs and stops like a champ. And it’s got very low miles. 1500-2000 per year! Amazing! Good luck with the sale!

    I have a w116 and honestly really like it. Mine is not in that kind of shape but I am working on it. Mine has failing clear coat syndrome on the astral silver.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah most of them have failing clear coat if it was metallic paint. This one also has some crazy that has started to appear on the clear coat. Pretty normal on a late '70s early '80s metallic paint Mercedes.

    That's a clean looking car. I prefer the US bumpers and headlights but overall the car is gorgeous.

    The video I was waiting for!
    Thanks a lot for covering the W116 in detail!
    I'd quite like a comparison video between the 116 and the 126 as there is not even one in the whole TH-cam...

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no comparison the 116 is a superior vehicle ;)

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The difference is not so much what they look like or how they're made but it's what they feel like when you're driving them. The 116 chassis feels amazing and it feels like a real classic Mercedes. The 126 does not feel anything like a 116.

      @@woodsandbarclay Thanks for the honesty!
      From what I read on forums and groups, people say that the 126 has a "softer" more "wafty" driving experience than the W116, the 116 having more road feel and therefore feeling a bit more "sporty" or atleast driver oriented.
      The materials though, I believe them to be of higher quality, being that the W126 has a closer build aproach to a W124, which I can say has lower quality materials than a 116 from personal experience. Everything on the W116 feels heavy, thick and well put together! Truly a trip back to another time. It's got Rolls Royce levels of quality and craftsmanship
      In terms of driving, after having driven W201, W124, W123, W140 and W116, I can say the 116 has a truly classic feel to it, yes, although I'm still impressed about how solid and comfortable the W124 feels overall... and the W140 is one of a kind in terms of wafting on the road.
      The most beautiful of them all is the W116 though, without a doubt. It is truly beautiful to behold.

      @@woodsandbarclay Would you ever consider buying a W140 300SD? Even though it is a bit out of the “true nuts and bolts old diesel Mercedes”…
      I don’t know if you guys got the OM606 turbo W140 that came out in 96 in Europe.
      I’d love to see a video on a W140 diesel in the US… There are close to none 😞
      Shame it is such a complex car and everyone runs from those 😔
