  • If you have a Hynautic H-50 steering helm in your boat, you'll want to watch this. These helms have been discontinued, not because of any flaw or such, but Hynautic was purchased by Seastar (Dometic), and they have moved away from the 3 line systems found in many older boats.
If your helm develops a leak, the upgrade path to a new helm is not cheap, nor easy.
However rebuilding your helm isn't hard at all despite what several websites online claim.
You don't need to be a superhuman demigod to manage to repair one of these, just a regular old human being with some patience and care can easily rebuild a helm in a matter of an hour or so.
➡Extra information over on the website including bleeding instructions: trythistv.com/...
➡You'll need this seal kit: amzn.to/37vYzCZ
Which should cover H50, H51, H52, basically any of the H50 series hynautic hydraulic steering helms.
You will also need some fluid to refill and bleed the system after the rebuild
There are several options for the best fluid. It must meet H5606 specifications, which I have selected my favorite options below:
➡1Qt OEM Seastar fluid: amzn.to/3ueS0P3 (A bit pricey but works good)
➡1Qt Shell Aeroshell 41: amzn.to/2M76PC7 (Cheaper, and also one of the fluids recommended by Hynautic/Seastar)
➡1Gal Shell Aeroshell 41: amzn.to/3durUkY (If you're unsure if your fluid is contaminated or such, a gallon of this stuff isn't awful expensive)
