One of my favorite video games of all time is Rockstars "Manhunt" and when Vick was escorting Oz's Mom, it reminded me of the mission in Manhunt where you have to escort a drunken Hobo. He's slow and he talks to much, just like Mrs. Cobb.
I love how the purpose of this show seems to be to wipe out all of Gotham’s normal criminals to make way for the more iconic Batman villains later down the line.
@@connormacmillan2803 the dark Knight trilogy played with this theme also. Particularly when Gordon met with Batman at the end of Batman begins, and they talked about escalation that would occur from Batman showing up in Gotham city.
Fun Facts revealed in this episode: The tunnel system Batman uses to motorbike around the tunnels is the same trolley system we see in this episode. The police chief IS in fact a corrupt POS, just as the Batman deduced. The Maroneys were a much more honorable family. Which magnificently shows the escalation of criminality in Gotham. It went from the Maroney‘s, to the Falcone’s who were much worse, and will soon be replaced by Penguin and the Batman Gallery of villains.

Also, one of the main driving forces of the show is the is the fallout from Riddlers plan. If you saw the way Joker read and toyed with Battinson in the deleted Arkham scene from the film, you’d know he’s the sharpest knife in the drawer. The Rogues will be taking over the city, similar to the end of The Long Halloween or what happens in No Man’s Land.
It's a weak scene, tbh. 1. Maroni's men ambushed them yet couldn't kill just two of them? Plot armor much? 2. Nadia would've smelled the gas soaked Taj from 6ft away... 3. Nadia wouldn't get burnt like that as she wasn't soaked, partially burned, yes, because she touched Taj. It would've been convincing if Penguin just shot her instead. Weakest episode so far, it didn't feel like HBO, it felt like CW.

@nothing “magic” about it, he mentioned he got the keys from the warden who tried to kill him (Maroni was answering the guards phone alluding that he had killed him instead) beyond that he had the majority of Blackgate in his control anyway so I don’t see it as that unreasonable he was essentially allowed to escape once he got the keys. We’re dealing with an entire city overflowing with corruption, he has enough sway to make it to his hideout. I feel like you’re purposely ignoring details to spin a negative slant.

Theory: based on the facial expressions of the Falcone table when Sofia accused them of writing affidavits against her, what if Carmine just form-lettered them and had the family unknowingly sign? I mean if doesn’t absolve them anywhere near 100%, BUT imagine Carmine dictating “this is what happened, this is what’s happening, sign here” and now the family just has live with the fallout and die of it

He claims he tried to help her mom leave yet stayed to become an underboss so for him if he benefits from something he’s for it no matter how wrong he knows it. The women on their hand I think were forced but than there’s Carla’s reaction. Remember when her daughter first meets Sofia she pulled her in tight like all scared. Like maybe she was lied to about Sofia and she was like “Ya know what? Now that you mentioned it she did seem a little off at times.” Luca obviously did it willingly. I’m sure he was told Sofia was the next head of the family and figured with her out he moves up since Alberto isn’t right for it with all the drinking and parting he does.
That actor Con Oneill is fantastic. Most recently he was in Our Flag Means Death. He's actually a really good singer, which you wouldn't expect from that speaking voice.
Colin Farrell said in an interview that Episode 8 will have Oz do something so messed up that we can't root for him anymore. Seeing how he set someone on fire along with their mom in this episode, I can't imagine what's in store (aside from killing Vic, but that's low-hanging fruit at this point.) Edit: Holy shit, I was not wrong. Shit’s fucked.
I agree with your point about Vic. Maybe it has something to do with his girl? Maybe something does happen to Vic which actually makes Oz even MORE brutal, because I really do believe he cares about the kid.
Can we take a moment to appreciate Lauren LeFranc? She's the show creator and showrunner, and she has done an incredible job. I haven't read enough praises to her.
I absolutely love the marriage between the storytelling, and the cinematography. Steady cams, handheld, trolleys etc etc. In their commentary on how its a direct plan as to what its supposed to convey to assist in the acting is top notch.

It feels like every episode has 3 or 4 times where I panic "is this the end of the episode" and then I check and there's like 20 minutes left. I enjoy this show so much and prey that the Daredevil born again show is at least this good. This reminds me of daredevil season one quality and how insanely surprised we were to get a comic book show that good but also grounded and shit
I do think it’s funny that Sofia is telling all those guys. that they were treated poorly and that she will treat them better. The irony is that if she treated oz better. He wouldn’t have turned on her in the first place. I personally believe that he was loyal to her. Until she told him that he was just her driver and nothing more. Idgaf who people root for, I just liked the Penguin's character more. Glad he's a villain where it's impossible to root him for and doesn't have any sad backstory or revenge shit. I think that's rare nowadays in good or greatly written shows. Also, Vic is the one I'm rooting for and not Sofia, ofc not the Penguin too, but he's my fave char.
I think that bully that Victor saw as he brought Oswald's mom to the old apartment building will probably tip Sal Maroni as to where Oswald's mom is staying since he wants revenge due to Oz killing his family.

Never saw that part coming with him setting those two on fire. I had a feeling that's why the son was all wet, but I really didn't think HBO would go there. This show is definitely playing on another level. It's really making me anticipate what's coming next week. And Greg was right, I recognized the name of the director of this episode [Helen Shaver]. First heard of her years ago in a really small indie film called "Desert Hearts". She definitely framed Sofia Gigante in a more powerful way and not overtly sexual.
What I realised is that in The Batman, we saw everyone from Bruce's perspective. Everyone can be corrupted. We assumed all cops are but the cop in this episode, the one who tussled with Batman, might actually be one of the good ones. Or maybe he just got excited after learning that nearly all Falcones are dead.

19:43 Yes, boys. When we first visit Mrs. Cobb's house, we see family photos of 3 boys. Oz had 2 brothers, and I think they both drowned in the water overflow tunnel that Oz paused to look at inside the trolley tunnel. Probably why he told Vic the city took them when Vic asked what happened to them.
They got the entire season early and had their reaction pre-uploaded to where it goes public at the date/time they choose.. how most TH-cam channels do things

The police chief played by Con O'Neill is excellent in Taika Watiti's Our Flag Means Death because he's one of my favorite characters from that series and his character reminded of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle with a little mix of Robert De Niro's character in Stardust.
A little detail that i liked was that instead of like in the comics which is on her face, Sofias "claw mark" scars are on her shoulders instead, which she intentionally shows now as a way of taking her power back. As opposed to previous episodes where she hides it. Also it seems like Oz's brothers drowned either in the tunnels or someother way due to his line of "The city took em, just like your family." and when he looked at the gotham sewer door like he was reminiscing or remembering something bad. But thats just my theory.
Incase you missed it......... in EPISODE 1 when Vic first goes to Ozs house u can see pictures of his brothers on the shelf. the camera actually holds focus on it for a bit. But yall might of been making a accent or making jokes during that part lmao. . . . . . . . . . w vid

Yeah from now on with this series I’m gonna just watch Coy’s solo episode reviews. I love their goofiness but Greg’s is turned up so high on this series it just feels like he’s not really invested. Cinepals is killing it though.

Also, a human cannot burn the way she was burned unless she's doused with gasoline, which was only partially. The moment the fire hit her hands she would've let go of her son, that's called survival instinct. I know because I also got burned.
I have the worst fear that both Victor and Mrs. Cobb are not going to make it to the end of the season and it's going to be collateral damage from a decision that Sophia makes.
"We kill Oz..." and Salvatore leans forward - and I laughed like a lunatic. it's the little details in this show that elevate it to amazing television 🙂 (I also may have a very dark sense of humour, because during the scene in the tattoo shop when they kidnap Taj I was in stitches...)

Technically oz did kill the falcones, if it wasn’t for everything oz has done since episode one Sofia wouldn’t have been this inclined to murder her family, oz inadvertently set all of that in motion with his actions. Sofia was the bomb Oswald created since ratting her out to her father.
Sofia could not have done a better job taking over her father‘s organization than she did in the past 2 episodes. Not only did she wipeout all of the Falcone’s (thankfully not Gia), she’s renamed HER organization in honor of her mother. Not only ending the Falcone legacy with her monstrous father, but also transforming it from a patriarchal society to a matriarchal society.
I don’t think it has anything to do with patriarchy or matriarchy whatsoever. She’s clearly organizing her new family around the principle of egalitarianism. She’s not organizing it this way strictly because she’s a just a woman. Just like her father didn’t organize his family that way strictly because he was a man.

Such a good show and fantastically well written!!! The tunnels is calling me home!!!. Talk about Harley Quinn-Joker reversal happening between Julian Chase being obsessed with Sofia Falcone/Gigante. Also seeing Con O'Neil from The Batman as the Chief of Police is such a beautiful way of sticking to continuity and already he suspects Sofia is somehow responsible for her family's death. Oswald Cobblepot is a made man. He is Bullseye. It's hilarious to see Sal Maroni getting shanked in his prison cell and I knew he was going to survive as Clancy hinted about it at NYCC 2024 which I went to this past week. Also saw Coy pass by as he was leaving from the empire stage taking the escalator.

The fact that he was just sitting there and enjoying their deaths until the fire suppression system made him think about the mushrooms.
I wanted Nadia to stick around longer. The Maroni family were the biggest mystery of the show, since they were the most different from the comics.

Loved the cameo from the Chief of Police, I would NOT have recognized him if I hadn't JUST watched The Batman!

Never saw that part coming with him setting those two on fire. I had a feeling that's why the son was all wet, but I really didn't think HBO would go there. This show is definitely playing on another level. It's really making me anticipate what's coming next week. And Greg was right, I recognized the name of the director of this episode [Helen Shaver]. First heard of her years ago in a really small indie film called "Desert Hearts". She definitely framed Sofia Gigante in a more powerful way and not overtly sexual.

Oz had TWO brothers who died, not just one. He talked to Sofia about them at Alberto's funeral, and his mom mentioned them in the first episode
What I realised is that in The Batman, we saw everyone from Bruce's perspective. Everyone can be corrupted. We assumed all cops are but the cop in this episode, the one who tussled with Batman, might actually be one of the good ones. Or maybe he just got excited after learning that nearly all Falcones are dead.

I'm shocked that some people said this episode was better than Episode 4, but it's definitely setting us up for a strong final 3 episodes.

Oz had 2 brothers, and I think they both drowned in the water overflow tunnel that Oz paused to look at inside the trolley tunnel. The police chief played by Con O'Neill is excellent in Taika Watiti's Our Flag Means Death because he's one of my favorite characters from that series and his character reminded of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle with a little mix of Robert De Niro's character in Stardust.

A little detail that i liked was that instead of like in the comics which is on her face, Sofias "claw mark" scars are on her shoulders instead, which she intentionally shows now as a way of taking her power back. As opposed to previous episodes where she hides it. Also it seems like Oz's brothers drowned either in the tunnels or someother way due to his line of "The city took em, just like your family." and when he looked at the gotham sewer door like he was reminiscing or remembering something bad. But thats just my theory.

@@OPENLATE_REELS that's no longer an excuse when they had time to talk and Nadia asking "What did you do to him?" At that point, even a distress person would smell the gasoline and thread carefully. Also, a human cannot burn the way she was burned unless she's doused with gasoline, which was only partially. The moment the fire hit her hands she would've let go of her son, that's called survival instinct. I know because I also got burned.

Technically oz did kill the falcones, if it wasn’t for everything oz has done since episode one Sofia wouldn’t have been this inclined to murder her family, oz inadvertently set all of that in motion with his actions. Sofia was the bomb Oswald created since ratting her out to her father.

Sofia could not have done a better job taking over her father‘s organization than she did in the past 2 episodes. Not only did she wipeout all of the Falcone’s (thankfully not Gia), she’s renamed HER organization in honor of her mother. Not only ending the Falcone legacy with her monstrous father, but also transforming it from a patriarchal society to a matriarchal society.
I don’t think it has anything to do with patriarchy or matriarchy whatsoever. She’s clearly organizing her new family around the principle of egalitarianism. She’s not organizing it this way strictly because she’s a just a woman. Just like her father didn’t organize his family that way strictly because he was a man.

Such a good show and fantastically well written!!! The tunnels is calling me home!!!. Talk about Harley Quinn-Joker reversal happening between Julian Chase being obsessed with Sofia Falcone/Gigante. Also seeing Con O'Neil from The Batman as the Chief of Police is such a beautiful way of sticking to continuity and already he suspects Sofia is somehow responsible for her family's death. Oswald Cobblepot is a made man. He is Bullseye. It's hilarious to see Sal Maroni getting shanked in his prison cell and I knew he was going to survive as Clancy hinted about it at NYCC 2024 which I went to this past week. Also saw Coy pass by as he was leaving from the empire stage taking the escalator.
