Great Trout Jeff, I fished that area about 6-7 weeks ago similar results a couple of solid trout 20" + and a couple of small Reds. Had a few blow up on the topwater but overall it was a fun day.
Was there this weekend also. Sitting on Whale Tale. Nothing couple of hits on top water. Really windy. Water wasn’t that clear. Went to the other side of Haulover clear water no wind. 🤷♂️ little to late in the day.
I just went out there Sunday with my kayak. Spent the whole morning cruising shorelines looking for reds but couldn’t find any. I got super disappointed but on the way back I found a windblown flat and decided to work a mirrodine across it and BOOM! Caught my new PB Snook, 26.50. Not huge but definitely my best so far. I’m planning to go back out and focus on that flat again next weekend or so. If you see a camo Hobie Outback with an orange flag over it, that’s me
Congrats on the PB! The area still has a long way to go, but it's much better than the last few years. I saw 6-8 kayaks while I was out but I try to keep my distance so who knows if any of them were you.
Nothing like Fish slim in the boat.. 😂😂 just toss him in on the deck you will remember him when you slip on his slime later in the day. Nice catch, always enjoy your channel and vids.. Goon is coming back baby.. Hopefully get better and better over the next couple years.. Miss our Goon. Old school goon was hard d to beat. Absolutely fell in love with the place the early 90’s , heart breaking watching it decline over the last decade.. Tight lines good man , catch-um up!!
One of my secrets is I never slip because I always wear shoes! LOL You're right though, the old lagoon was incredible. I doubt I'll see it like that again in my lifetime, but we can hope.
Thanks for the video, nice trout. I find working the top water, gets floating grass so easy, must have been better where you were. Did you see much bait there? Seems to me last year by this time there was the mullet run on and bait everywhere.
Oh, I was pulling grass on every cast. As long as you don't get so much it kills the action, fish will still strike. I saw some bait, not a lot, but some. Lot of puffer fish too.
Now that so many manatees died off, it's not so bad. The lagoon, when it's healthy, is capable of supporting a reasonable manatee population, without severely impacting the grass, but because the water quality got so bad the grass died which made the manatees consume every bit that was left until they starved. I'm seeing some pretty good grass recovery in the north lagoon too, so we're getting there. I do think we need a better manatee management plan though.

Sorry to hear that. Obviously it wasn't great for me either. If I didn't need to renew my CNS pass I probably would have gone farther north.

I have, just not often. Used to hit docks at night a lot, but these days I don't bother.

I'm not sure where you're referring to? I've fish the indian river side many times. I just find it less productive than east of haulover.
