Kayaking at Crystal City Underground - Crystal City, MO

Leigh and I went on an adventure! This was so much fun! An abandoned silica mine outside Crystal City, MO has become a kayaking playground for many!! Marsan Kayaking leads tours several times a day, year round to those adventurous enough to participate! The mine stays an average of 55 degrees F and the water holds a chilly 45 degrees F year round. Be sure to dress appropriately! Everything you need (sans your own warm clothing) for this adventure is provided by Marsan kayaking. Kayak, PFD, headlamp, gloves and paddles. The tour lasts between 2 - 2.5 hours, but because our group was so small, it was 3 hours long! The water is crystal clear giving you a perfect view of what the bottom of the mine looked like. There is still equipment down there! Your guide is knowledgeable about the mine, the history and has a great sense of humor! For most of the tour the ceiling of the mine is about 45 feet above you until you approach the squeeze. This part of the tour was a bit unnerving for me and Leigh, and you will see why!
If you are in the Crystal City, MO area and love an adventure, I can't recommend this activity enough! I can't wait to go back!!
