That's what happened with me and my dodge charger that I had. I saw it when I walked on the lot fell head of heels in love and didn't even look it over. Now largely there was nothing wrong with the car it drove great had low miles etc It did have some cosmetic damage however scratches on the side skirt and wheel panel the biggest cosmetic issue with it was that it had a giant hole in the front bumper you wouldn't know it's there from just looking at the car but the closer you got the more you saw it. The car was a rental vehicle before which is why it was low on kilometers and it was only a 2017 I'm pretty sure it ended up in a bush at one point which is why they also got rid of it. But I still loved the car even though cosmetically it had some issues. God I miss that car still had to get rid of him 2 years ago

You should definitely not buy without looking for at least a week at ads. You will definitely start to see the same people over and over and over with different vehicles with the same background. Fortunately I think now craigslist tells you when they have multiple listings but I’m sure people know how to work around those.
I was in the same situation as you looking for a 07-14 tahoe. Ended up getting a 07 escalade after looking at some trashed tahoes and youkons the escalades seemed to be taken care of better and not as nasty. Plus you get the 6.2
Did the same thing. 08 Tahoe LTZ had an option to come with the 6.2 also, but for anything in good condition, you're spending the same as an escalade. Don't care for the Yukon front end, so that helped narrow down to looking for an escalade lol
You're too nice of a guy! I'd had been saying some things to those folks! 2 days of wasted time and they clearly sell Tahoe's daily, they do this all the time they knew what they were doing!
Exactly. Never buy anything in a rush. Made that mistake last year and oil leaked the next day. 7 months later the truck got stolen. Right now folks are scamming these days. Rolling the miles back, taping lights, not being truthful, etc. I'm truckless right now and that's OK cause I got cash and 2 feet. Something better will come along. Always get an inspection before buying. It's better to spend $200 to know what's going on than thousands down the road fixing something.
I had a similar experience when trying to buy a vintage motorcycle off FB Marketplace. Had an agreed time with the seller, and agreed price. I loaded my truck up and readied my trailer, then called him to let him know I was on the way. He was literally in the process of selling it to someone else when he picked up. :/
I hate that shit.. I understand it's first come, first serve with cash in hand but. It's not cool when it's something you really want. Especially when the buyer agrees to hold it.
I had that same shit happen to me with basically my dream truck. Was walking out the door with a pocket full of cash and the guy told me he had just sold it
People on marketplace can be such ass holes I’ve been searching for a truck for 2or3 months and every time I go to buy one it’s gets sold that day and they don’t tell me that someone else was coming to look at it. So frustrating.good luck
gotta be urgent man. Don't ask to see it on the weekend , go see it after work if its a good deal because theres another thousand people in your area that are looking for a deal too. The truck i have now i scooped from under another buyer. Seller said he wanted to let the guy come and see it tomorrow because it was planned for and I convinced him to let me come see it with cash in hand within the hour. I went home with the truck. Snooze = lose. I might be seen as a pos for doing that but if you want the vehicle you gotta try your best to get it
@@dailying3049 That seller is a low life and you shouldn't be proud dealing with him. If you give your word you keep it, no amount of money is worth your word. Never rush when buying a vehicle. You see something you like, you look over a small detail, then another, then another. You make an impulse buy and regret it the rest of the time you have the vehicle.
It's a scammers paradise, with the prices as they are and people desperate to get a truck, the scammers are taking junkers, clocking them, if they can and then make them look good. Got to be so careful at the moment.
Facebook marketplace has got to be one of the worst apps for buying cars locally. Here in SF, i've been baited so many times into dealerships that say "that car just sold 1 minute ago!" or "Oh that truck just broke sorry" and want me to go look at another car that isn't what I wanted originally. Same thing for individuals applies, but usually it's just in worse shape than advertised. I swear craigslist wasn't even this bad back in it's day, or hell, even offer-up. And nobody from FB cares, nobody gets banned. Horrible.
I just bought an 06 (one generation older) for $3700, had a rusty bumper and rear fender. Fixed it up and it is immaculate (other than having 220 k on it). It’s a z71 but is loaded like a ltz, I’m following your vids on chomper since they are so similar and I am thinking of doing a 4 inch leveling kit, bullbar, and some stocks off a 2015+ Silverado
@Bully Maguire new and used car prices lately are through the roof so those of us that know what it costs to purchase another vs fixing up an older truck if it's still running and driving. As far as the miles go I've seen them selling with 350k on the odometer and still asking 6500$ and this was before covid and all of the inflation
I was helping my daughter look at used cars for months. I could not believe the amount of fraudsters and scammers I dealt with. One of the worst was a girl selling her 2006 Subaru with only 150k for $3k…when I arrived at her dad’s house, she wasn’t there. He comes out and starts talking about how great the car was. I immediately saw the front tires were bald and the passenger side one has steel belt showing. When I popped the hood, I could smell coolant. The dad said it might need the head gasket replaced. I told him that wasn’t mentioned to me when I inquired. The ad said everything ran perfectly. He said his daughter posted the ad, not him. When I started the car, I could hear knocking. Then I noticed a scan tool plugged in under the dash. The dad saw that and quickly grabbed it from me. I told him the code said the knock sensor was bad. He said he was working on fixing it. I asked if the ac worked because it was just blowing hot air. He said he hadn’t noticed it not working, but he usually drives with the windows down…in 100*+ temps…all the time. I had heard enough, so I told him I was out and he should correct the ad. Two day later the girl sends me a message with part of the issues listed but still wanting the same amount. I told her there’s no way she was getting $3k, because the items I knew about was going to be at least $4k to fix at a shop. She called me an a-hole and hung up. That was 6 months ago and the car is still for sale for $3k.
Man, i check marketplace daily. I've seen some immaculent 08-13 tahoes. They typically go for $14,000-$15,500. Most of them have 130k -160k miles on them. I do live in texas though.
Damn this sucks… been wondering what you wanted as a project and now we know and we have to still wait… people suck for sure! Hopefully this means the next one is the one?!! Good luck and hod bless on finding her one!
They know what they're doing. It's one thing to buy a proper s**t box so you get what you pay for especially if its listed under $1500. But for vehicles that sellers claim to be 'exquisite' they sure do fail to mention damage. Ive sold a few cars on Craigslist and im always upfront about what needs to be replaced, what needs immediate work, what it can use, whats damaged, whats good and any questions they do have im always honest and straight forward. I can bet you anything those sellers buy vehicles, do absolutely no inspections or repairs. They give the car a good interior/exterior wash and list it up as immaculate. Ive heard stories of people buying good shells but mechanically problematic vehicles more than I care to admit.
A lot of people including myself used to and still race those Tahoes, I had an 05 and man that thing was built like a damn tank. I ended up putting a 220/220 cam built 4l60e 4:11 gears long tube headers man I miss that thing
I have learned over the years to never trust anyone selling something who won't meet at their house. That means they are shady and don't want to be found.
Oooorrrrrrr they don’t want to do business where they live. It’s risky and now this person has a direct route to your home. I always suggest police stations for major purchase meet ups. Most folk are straight up and appreciate it. 🤷🏽♂️
I had similar experiences with several Suburbans that I looked at may years ago. Probably looked at close to 2 dozen dealers and all of them were way worse than represented. Even though I tried to find one from an individual, they ended up be rebuilders or dealers. Finally found an extremely nice one in perfect shape from an individual for a good price to boot. I have had that truck for 7 years now. Hold out for the right one.
I despise people that are willing to sell/buy a vehicle right under the nose of another buyer that had an appointment first. That happened to me a couple times I show up to look at the vehicle after work just to told they already sold it, would been nice to had a phone call so I don't waste my time coming to look.
People that try to pull scams like this are the worst. Mixing multiple photos in one ad is a dead give away to run the other way. I think the fact that the ad said LTZ and the truck that showed up is an LT should have sealed it.
A license dealer here! Im not sure what state youre in but in my state dealers are prohibited from selling vehicles off dealership premises. So if they meet you at a Home Depot, They might be breaking the law! Also it depends on state dealer regulations but in my state there are also laws surrounding advertising vehicles as a dealer. If they did a "Bait and switch" there may be laws which prohibit those sorts of activites. If I were you I would find out their dealer number and report them to the department of revenue in your state. They could quite literally loose their license over something like this.
I know EXACTLY how you feel! Back in the late 1990's, my Wife decided she wanted a Suburban and and this "Fine Christian Gentleman" from our Church (Don't get me wrong, I'm also a Christian)said he could find her one (he dealt in Used Vehicles). So I get home from Work one day and there's a 1991 Suburban sitting in my Driveway that he'd dropped off for us to try out. Everything looked Great and so I took it down the road for about 1/4 mile and then came back. She asked me what I thought and I told her that there was something wrong with the Transmission. It didn't "act up" but I could tell by the sound it wasn't right. My Wife claimed I was just "hearing things" because I didn't want to spend the money on it. So we went ahead and bought it....This was on December 14th. Her Mother lived in Houston (about 120 miles away) and we went to visit her on Christmas Day. The transmission started "Screwing up when we were almost there and we made it to her house and parked it. When we left the next morning, it basically didn't have reverse and when we made it to a town close to our home (my Brother In Law had a Mechanics Shop there), we got off I-45 and turned toward his shop. By this time, all I had was 1st gear....Fortunately, I'd called him up while we were headed there and he'd already opened up a Spot on a lift for me. We got the Suburban up on a lift and I started dropping the Trans. The transmission was absolutely Fried and I ended up getting a New Factory trans that totaled around $2,000.00. This was with us NOT even putting 500 miles on the vehicle. When my Wife told the "Fine Christian Gentleman about how a Vehicle he'd sold us and "Claimed" to be "in Perfect Condition" had a Bad transmission after only 10 days (remember, I'd told her after only a 1/4 mile test drive that the Transmission had "Issues" and was Bad), all he said was "Well That's Terrible!". He wouldn't even offer to pay for 1/2 of the Transmission Replacement. And He still continued to see us at Church and Greet us as if he'd done Nothing Wrong! And some People Wonder why being called a "Used Car Salesman" is a BAD thing, LOL!
I feel like these are easy things to notice. But many people make many mistakes for whatever... reason. If the photos are mismatched.. dont look at it. If the photos look shotty. Dont look at it. If they are hiding a plate dont look at it. If your not gonna look up a carfax because the license plate is hidden or vin. Dont look at it. If your spending any amount of money to look at a vehicle. I always look up the plate or vin using an app called orto vehicle history or license plate and vin lookup- on iphone (which is free) to check service history, odometer history or possible accident history. And then i base that off the price and negotiate from there. If that doesn't work out then its just not meant to be.
The one in the picture had 2 tone seats and the one you went to see had solid black seats and the sales stickers on the windshield were also different.
My dad bought a 1978 450 SLC rust-free, stripped to bare metal. By the time he took delivery it somehow had become a german-only gray-market 350 SLC from 1974 titled as a 1978 450 SLC even though all the numbers came back to the 1974. What they did was they took his money and then they had something brought over from Germany. It was complete Bondo queen. Rust started popping about 6 months later.
All this online buying big things is what we old timers called "a pig in a poke". Good job catching those little inconsistancies between what's online and what's in front of you. I personally don't shop used online because Big City Boy don't trust nobody nohow
Marketplace ridiculousness was why I went and bought a 2019 Ecoboost mustang. Then my daily shit the bucket. I luckily stumbled upon a guy selling a 2003 Blazer who was in school for automotive repair. He'd replaced some parts, upgraded others. I feel I paid a bit more than I should but it's been solid aside replacing old parts. I bought my New Edge mustang too and found other issues later (mainly rust). I'm in Chicago so this issue is much worse since there's an open auto auction 20 mins from the city. People buy shit cars, get it to run enough for you to buy it then that's it. I understand why people just go to dealerships.
Man i feel your frustration! I went to purchase a car from offerup drove about 45 min one way which is not to bad I guess right? But man i get there at the agreed upon time and when i get there she’s sold it to someone else what a damn waste of time smh.
Welcome to the classic Craigslist scam. One of the oldest in the book. Advertises good looking vehicle, but they purchase a few more that are very similar but not as good quality, then they flip those. You need to report this to the DMV. These people get investigated, and in some cases they lose their ability to sell more vehicles.
They know exactly what they doing it's called bait and switch whoever selling these are crooks you need to walk away and save your money and report these clowns
The car business is so SHADY 🤦🏽♂️. My ex went to a dealership alone and got a car. Once she drove off the lot , immediately had problems. I ask her “did you test drive this car” her response was “I drove one with red seats” they let her test drive a different car of the same model to “show how a car like that handles” and sold her the lemon 🤦🏽♂️ granted she took the deal but why take advantage of someone like that?
Swapping out for a cheaper vehicle before you go look at a potential new vehicle is a veteran move. I thought my pops and I were the only ones that did that! 😂😂😂
Honestly would report them on facebook and notify the local police that they are being shady on how they are going about selling vehicles cause that’s not right
I have seen cars and trucks for sale on Facebook markets place that looked way too good for the price they were asking. Do your home work and buyer beware. Even legit vehicles are a ripoff.
Car salesperson here. This is classic bait and switch. You need to get in touch with fb marketplace or their dealer board. Then report them to the BBB…
I hate buying cars - dealers are just out to get you - and private sellers just want the fast money - these used cars need a lot of work - why would you trust a family vehicle with worn out bushings/tires/bearings/old hoses/ just asking for trouble. Have there ever been honest cars salesman - and yes there are exceptions for everything. I hate shady car dealers.
If they tell you to meet in a random place, it is most likely a scam, when i sell a truck that i know is good i show it in my home because i have nothing to hide and i don't have to go no where.
I love how she didn't even offer any kind of explanation. Just like "it should be.... OK sorry about that." Like what do you mean it should be? You're selling that many used vehicles you can't keep them straight? Obviously it's a scam.
DO not get a 07-09 tahoe or suburban. i have n 08 suburban LTZ. The 6.0 and trans are solid but everything else is crap. the paint is fading the electronics go out. air suspension has a shit ton of problems and dose not work. charcole canistet leaks pellets into the fuel tank breather hoses. just problem after problem. remember these where the years GM was going bankrupt. and you got to disable the dod lifters. we got a range it plugs into the obd2 port and keeps it in V8 mode
Make sure you pay very close attention bro with the easiest way to just double check the Vin number if they listed it. If you glance at the picture quickly, you’ll also see that one of them had a black Chevy bowtie on the front one did not one of them had like a chrome accents somebody added to the grill, and that one did not and one of them had the crossbars on the roof rack and that one did not, I just noticed of three things right off the bat little on all those big scratches on the front bumper cover on the passenger side that you could not see in the picture but we’re definitely there when you saw it in person. Small town car dealers man trying to make a buck anyway they can, much better off to try to get one from a private person if possible. I know it’s hard but probably do better that way. Good luck hunting.
A dealer without an actual dealership? Happens quiet too often. Many people think they can just buy and sell cars. Crazy cops don’t do anything about it. But they’re so quick to ticket you and collect money.
I have a 2 wheel drive lt with a sunroof and DVD package and leather. I put a leveling kit and all terrains on it with z71 badges. I'm going to let everyone know when I sell it though.

Sometimes the Lord is helping us out when we don’t know it. You will find the "right" one for her. Be patient and give thanks.
Was walking out the door with a pocket full of cash and the guy told me he had just sold it
This happened because of no shows. Folks never show up and don’t call to tell you so.
So they don’t wait if they get a solid bite with cash in pocket.
Why would you look at a vehicle at 6am anyways? Too many red flags-you already know better 🤷♂️
damn straight
People on marketplace can be such ass holes I’ve been searching for a truck for 2or3 months and every time I go to buy one it’s gets sold that day and they don’t tell me that someone else was coming to look at it. So frustrating.good luck
50% of sellers on facebook or craigs have no honor and are lowlifes
gotta be urgent man.
He should have told guy 1st come 1st served instead. I have told people that i would wait for them the next day and told new callers that and kept my word.
Facebook market and Craigs show at least half are flakes and liars. Don't answer their ads or lie.
I agreed to buy a van from a guy for 2k and gave him $50 down till tomorrow on a Sunday. But I decided to stop at ATM and get $200 more for him. Went back and saw he was dealing with another which offered him $2300 which he was going with I immediately said fine I'll give that $2300.. both someone like you and the seller were embarrassed and I got it knowing they wanted to screw me.
A guy I worked with on night shift back 30 yr ago always had 7k on him and would check the morning news papers and go call them. He got great deals.
Bait and switch is illegal in most states. I’d report them to the AG!
Keep looking for a 07-13 tho we need one on the channel 🔥 an them tahoes honestly hold up as far as being nice an modern but people do like to scan with that body style more than any other

You can get a 07-09 Escalade with the 6.2 non AFM for around those prices you're looking at. Should look into those
Those are usually pretty clapped though. I don’t see em often in good shape for those prices
@@loweredyote8416 they go super quick here in TX. No rust either. That's why you never see them listed lol. You really have to be on your phone daily/every few hours ready to go grab it once you see a good one posted. He's clearly OK with looking at higher mileage tahoes, and similar mileage 07-09 escalades are in the price ranges he's finding these tahoes for tbh. Wouldn't pay more than $15-17k for 90-150k mile one. After those prices, you can jump up to the next body style for similar miles
@@imnotawasteoftime my dads buddy just went down to texas for one actually now that you say that. Didn’t buy it Becuase something flipped up in the road and messed up the valance on his yukon
Never rush when buying a vehicle. You see something you like, you look over a small detail, then another, then another. You make an impulse buy and regret it the rest of the time you have the vehicle.
_When buying something used never let feelings get attached that is what I've learned._
Be glad the problem showed itself on the test drive. I just had to change the transmission in a 14 model and it was horrible. You dodged a bullet
It's a scammers paradise, with the prices as they are and people desperate to get a truck, the scammers are taking junkers, clocking them, if they can and then make them look good. Got to be so careful at the moment.
I definitely think you made the right choice by walking away I would have never went back the 2nd day on those first people
Facebook marketplace has got to be one of the worst apps for buying cars locally.
Ltz wheels off a newer generation to put on your 06 that's what is on my 03 Yukon and on the 08 Denali... looks really sharp on the older trucks
genuine question why would you put money into a car with 220k? unless you replace the engine
@@bullymaguire1999 The 5.3 is a God tier engine, many people have over 300k on them
@Bully Maguire new and used car prices lately are through the roof so those of us that know what it costs to purchase another vs fixing up an older truck if it's still running and driving. As far as the miles go I've seen them selling with 350k on the odometer and still asking 6500$ and this was before covid and all of the inflation
@Jacob Bitner That's your opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one.
Your neighbors must love that cold, morning exhaust sound....
Man, i check marketplace daily. I've seen some immaculent 08-13 tahoes. They typically go for $14,000-$15,500. Most of them have 130k -160k miles on them. I do live in texas though.
In my area 90% of Marketplace vehicles for sale are flippers of a certain ethnicity who repair smashed vehicles and are very shady.
Latinos? XD
@@jaquaviousjefferson Ararbic folks have the marketplace used vehicle section cornered In my area.
Dude !! I saw a local CL ad that had pictures of a model car... I also saw a car posted with 4 different types of wheels in 4 pictures. 😆
Tahoe offerings are really trucked up, so be careful out there. Cheers!
Middle of video a dealer add pops up “know you’re getting a great deal” 😂 had me dying
Yooo, I think you found your content. Going around and exposing all the scammy scummy business with the car industry rn
Dam man I sure hope thats some new mufflers in the box in the backseat lol
If not intentional shenanigans, then it's gross incompetence. Either way, RUN!
People that try to pull scams like this are the worst. Mixing multiple photos in one ad is a dead give away to run the other way. I think the fact that the ad said LTZ and the truck that showed up is an LT should have sealed it.
back in my time we called that "bait & switch" and it's been going on forever
Bait and switch. Need to be careful these days. No one has honor when it comes to selling a car.😢
The one in the picture had 2 tone seats and the one you went to see had solid black seats and the sales stickers on the windshield were also different.
They know damn well what they are doing. Scammers for sure.
A lot of people don't pay attention and notice details. That's why people get away with kind of stuff.
You should put that dive on blast! I've worked for a Stealership and that's called The Ol' Bait & Switch!🤦♂️
She meant to say “sorry you caught us trying to rip you off.”
07 thru 09 or 10? The motors have bad piston rings, GM installed them knowing they were bad. Lots and lots of oil consumption in those years.
GM is such a shit company they don’t own up to so many mistakes it’s crazy. My dads 2010 GMC Denali was the biggest piece of shit he ever owned.
That’s bait and switch man! They can get in massive trouble for that! You need to report them to the dealer network cause that shit is bull shit
Bait and switch. Get her name and look up their biz license, then contact the Alabama secretary of state.
Boyo, I swear to you I looked at this same exact listing, Tahoe, everything.
I walked away from her and told her to quit trying to scam people.
They know exactly what they doing it's called bait and switch whoever selling these are crooks you need to walk away and save your money and report these clowns
That is definitely bait and switch man. Very crooked way of doing business.
The car business is so SHADY 🤦🏽♂️. My ex went to a dealership alone and got a car. Once she drove off the lot , immediately had problems. I ask her “did you test drive this car” her response was “I drove one with red seats” they let her test drive a different car of the same model to “show how a car like that handles” and sold her the lemon 🤦🏽♂️ granted she took the deal but why take advantage of someone like that?
love your vids i been sub for a long time
Swapping out for a cheaper vehicle before you go look at a potential new vehicle is a veteran move. I thought my pops and I were the only ones that did that! 😂😂😂
Screw yall
Honestly would report them on facebook and notify the local police that they are being shady on how they are going about selling vehicles cause that’s not right
Armor all is the biggest red flag. I like to see a car the way it sits. Don't polish a turd and expect me not to notice.
You should’ve showed their Facebook profile
That same crap happened to me and my wife when we went to buy a tracker, the guy had some else buying it when we got there
I have seen cars and trucks for sale on Facebook markets place that looked way too good for the price they were asking. Do your home work and buyer beware. Even legit vehicles are a ripoff.
That is a scam through and through. Glad they didn’t try to rob you after you busted them.
They call fake buyer's to make pressure on you to buy.
Once a seller says they have someone else coming to buy, I can come if I’m willing to pay more…. I walk away.
If they tell you to meet in a random place, it is most likely a scam, when i sell a truck that i know is good i show it in my home because i have nothing to hide and i don't have to go no where.
Lmao he complained about their tactics turns around and deploys his own by driving older cheaper truck to look broke lol you sir are funny
I love how she didn't even offer any kind of explanation. Just like "it should be.... OK sorry about that." Like what do you mean it should be? You're selling that many used vehicles you can't keep them straight? Obviously it's a scam.
Never make an expensive purchase off of Craigslist or FB marketplace... A bunch of scammers...
Call the Attorney Generals Office and make a complaint!
She needs to be reported she clearly knows she is being dishonest and taking advantage of people that might not know any better
A dealer without an actual dealership? Happens quiet too often. Many people think they can just buy and sell cars. Crazy cops don’t do anything about it. But they’re so quick to ticket you and collect money.
You might have better luck buying from an auction, I would suggest IAA. But overall everything is overpriced right now

I feel for y. But I bought mines from a guy that was a small dealer. Communion sucked. But it’s was all good minus the cel came on. I scanned it. Too rich and Ethanol sensor was reading 70%. Turns out tune was too bought anyways. Afm deleted. New cam. New lifters. With paper work. Bought leather seats. Done at 7k even. First oil change looked rough lot of metal. Did a flush same thing. Took it back to shop that did the work. Owned by same guy. Turns out his fired tech didn’t drop the oil pan and clean. All that extra metal laying in the bottom of the pan.
