I use the 8 way bee escape here in the UK. They are a good thing, and I'd really be interested to hear what you make of them, after giving them a try Trev. One thing I did find made them work a bit better and kept the girls happier, was on the side of the mat that the escape is mounted, the side that goes down, the side that goes to the brood chamber, rather than about a 10mm bee space, give the girls about 60mm of space. - That way when they are clustered around the central vent, the cluster is clear of the tops of the frames. Put the escape on before you want to remove your supers, but get those supers off within 48 hours, after that the bees will have figured it out!
