LIFE’S MASTER MODEL! (part 6 of 8)
(Matthew 17:24-27)
Intro: “Religion and politics should not mix!” So it is often said. However, how can what one truly believes be separated from the making of other life choices, including at the polls? Can godliness and good citizenship go together?
I. LIVING WITH THE RULES OF THE LAND!
A. Perhaps We Would Prefer Life Without The Politics!
1. Are they avoidable?
2. Must learn to mix without getting mixed up!
B. Governed By Godly Discernment.
1. Acknowledging that which is Supreme! (Acts 5:29)
2. Jesus’ earthly parents acknowledged the governing powers! [Luke 2:1-7]
II. WHERE JESUS WAS ON THE SUBJECT OF SUCH SUBJECTION!
A. An Accusation!
1. A charge raised when brought before Pilate. (Luke 23:1-2)
2. This was an attempt to note Jesus as a threat!
B. The Actuality Of What Jesus Practiced And Taught!
1. He walked and interacted in a land where there were rules.
a. Where Peter thought his Lord stood. (Matt. 17:24-25a)
b. Was Peter right? (Matt. 17:25-27)
2. He acknowledged the right thing to do!
a. Again, a question! (Matt. 22:15-17)
b. Our Lord’s marvelous response! (Matt. 22:18-21)
III. THOUGH CHALLENGING, THERE IS A BALANCE TO ACKNOWLEDGE!
A. Imperfect Governing Serves A God Sanctioned Function!
1. So declared Paul. (Rom. 13:1-7)
2. As did Peter. (1 Pet 2:13-17)
B. Living Within It!
1. It can work for us.
a. Paul acknowledged his Roman citizenship. [Acts 22:25-29]
b. Paul exercised those rights! (i.e. Acts 25:11-12)
c. Perhaps that is what led to the opportunity of reaching some even of “Caesar’s household.” [Phil. 4:22]
2. Still, with a higher ideal in mind! (Phil. 3:20-21)
Closing: Therefore, As Good Citizens, Let Us Pray!
(1 Timothy 2:1-4)
