    My first attempt at mittens, and it turned out great. I had a bit of a hard time getting the thumb gusset right, so had to take that area out a few times, but finally got it. I'm very pleased with all your tutorial videos I've seen, and recommend them to other knitters.

      I know this is a few months old, but I just wanted to share that I had the same problem. I believe that when it says to cast on 39 stitches, it means in addition to the slip knot you put on originally, giving you a total of 40. This didn’t turn out to be a problem for me either, but it was just good to know!

    I’m not sure if you’re going to see this- I’ve tried going back through the video and looking through the comments, but - when getting to the point of turning for the Left mitten, is it the same rotation just a difference of number of stitches when you start? Or is it different than how you do for the Right mitten? Thanks!

    Thank you made my first mitten came out pretty good. Will continue to practice. The only thing is the cuff is loose would like to be tighter. Any advise?

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      your cast on may have just been too loose. If you still have the tail out and haven't woven in or connected (or could manage to undo that part) you might be able to pull out some slack from the cast on. This would be a very tedious thing to do and could run into a snag if you haven't done it before. You can test it out first but knitting up a cuff sample and then work out how to tighten. You wanna start at the opposite end of the tail because the slack will get pulled out in that direction. I would use a blunt tapestry needle to pull on the stitches instead of your fingers. You need to be careful to not pull out too much or you will loose the stretchiness a cuff needs to have. Here is a video showing how to di this. Her video has a much looser cast on from a knitting loom but it's the same principle. th-cam.com/video/27xAJKBv37c/w-d-xo.html

    Hello GoodKnitKisses. HELP please - I just finished the 2nd row (with a purl stitch as you said it would). I'm a bit confused on how to begin my 3rd row. 1st row begins with Kn, however, when you are on the 2nd row, you say that we are purling the purls and knitting the knits...when I start the 3rd row I'll be putting a Knit stitch into the beginning purl stitch. Are we no longer purling the purls and knitting the knits on Row 3 - and every other odd numbered row afterwards? Can anyone help explain if this is correct?

      “Pattern:
      Caron Basic Family Knit Mittens”
      Click the pattern title and it will take you to the pattern website.
      Click on blue rectangle that says “DOWNLOAD FREE PATTERN”. It will open the PDF in a new page. I noticed on my iPhone when I clicked from TH-cam from iPhone it wouldn’t let me click the blue download. So I had to hit the safari button to let it launch the Safari app instead of via the YT app.
      Yes I could give you the direct link but I’m giving instruction here in case you see another pattern in a video you’d like and you’ll be able to trouble shoot in the future. If it is a phone issue and you were doing everything I said before, be sure to read the part again about my phone issue. You may need to open in another browser if on another phone or desktop if that is the issue. Hope that helps! ☺️

    Kristen, I love your tutorial, but I have a problem I hope you can help me with. After picking up the 2 stitches purlwise at the base of the thumb, I find that I am left with little gaping holes. I did that part over and over and can't seem to avoid them. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

      Sharon Higgins I understand. My second one did that and you can come back to reinforce the hole with the same yarn and a tapestry needle. If you want to cut down on the bulk you could split the yarn threads and use a smaller thickness to sew inside. I’d do this before sewing the final seam up while the thumb area is easy to work.

      To avoid the hole pick up the horizontal strand before the next stitch, put it on the left needle "twisted" then knit it. That's a M1. Doesn't make a hole.

    You said the first row end with a purl stitch, but I end with a knit stitch. Doesn't matter how many time I redo it I end with a knit.

      You have to cast on 39 stitches in addition to the slip knot at the start, so basically do 40 stitches

    I would like to know where you are getting all of your stitches that you say you have stitches on a holder on one side and stitches on a nother holder on the otherside . this is not an easy pattern . If all your patterns are like this I do not think I want to join

      doris easter this is not my pattern. I am teaching someone else’s pattern. I suggest watching the whole thing and not skipping anything so parts aren’t missed. If you have a question on the actual pattern please contact them on their website at Yarnspirations.com and their designers can walk you through it or correct the pattern if incorrect. Most patterns on my channel are mine but if not I always credit them and reference in the video description.
