I knew I could count on you having a video for mittens. My retired husband is jumping in on my love of knitting and has spun some yarn that seems DK weight/single ply. So I’ll attempt this to give him something to wear and something new for me to knit. You’re the best, Jana!!👏🎉💖
I am soooo glad I found you and your videos! I LOVE your philosophy that "you are the boss of your knitting", and also love your straightforward approach to teaching us! Thank you, thank you!
Excellent video , you're a great instructor! I'm anxious to give these a try. Great item to make for the homeless shelters , church bazars or Christmas gifts. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and skills.
In true sloth style I’m like 5 KALs behind. Lol. I’m in school now and can’t knit so much but I still enjoy watching you Jana! 😊 I plan to knit these one day.
hi, i have always knitted with dpns, no problems, no ladders. im going to try the loop like you this time. i never tried your method before as i was always afraid of ladders. with your help and knitting like a sloth is a sure way to dive in. thank you so very much. stacy🧤
I will have to try the magic loop method. I’ve always either used dpn’s or two circular needles together. I found that by moving the row over 2 sts every few rows, I could avoid ladders in my knitting. Then I found the 9” circulars for socks and wow, what a difference. SO much faster. I think I will try the small circular’s for mittens next. Love watching your videos!
While I can use DPNs, I got tired of always dropping one so I've knit a basic mitten pattern with magic loop for years BUT its a left/right pattern. I had the idea of doing mittens for littles in a set of three, a pair and a spare, but I needed a pattern that was not left/right. I'm not a fabulous knitter so when I found this pattern, I was a tiny bit unsure about how to convert it. Thanks! I'll watch it though over the next two weeks vacation and get it mastered. Looking forward to donating my "3 in a pair" mittens!
Love this series, I’ve never knit mittens before, but I followed along with your sock tutorial and I knew this series would be fantastic as well. I had my daughter who has never knit any article of clothing before, watch your tutorial yesterday and we started her mitts yesterday. I’ll start mine today... It’s getting chilly here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 🍁
Beginner knitter but with this process of teaching I am going to love the challenge with the snowflake. It’s June, so this could be a great start for holiday makes as nice gifts when visiting someone. I like the note with adding on with the color work makes sense with fit . Let’s do this..
Wow!! I'm Excited on making the mittens.. I think this awesome.. Your the best teacher.,😁👍 I learn how to knit my first fingerless glove.. I was so excited... Now I want to learn how to knit.,. This glove ... 😁👍 I can't wait to get started... THUMBS UP!! 😁💕
Your videos give me so much more confidence to try knitting more things “you’re the boss of your own knitting” - this is the message I need to hear! I’m so afraid of breaking rules 🙈
Yea, we are started. Hope it was ok. I mentioned your mitten KAL on the Fruity Knitting Podcast group on Ravelry. They are doing a mitten KAL. I have never made mittens and want to make some Skeindeer Selbu mittens. So...I am stoked! Already have the ribbing and the 3 knit rows on BOTH mittens completed! Yea!! Vivian Ann on the side of the mountain in northeast Tennessee
When you started the working yarn was on right front,(always behind) if I saw it correctly which had me k n p on the inside. Now to do (in my case,3 knit rounds) if I see it correctly your working yarn is coming from the back needle? I'm confused. Can't see it.😢 I love how you're soo clear on everything. I'm now ready to knit the three rounds. Where should the working yarn be.?
Love ur videos....they are so easy to follow and the results are amazing. I want to knit fingerless gloves with worsted weight yarn on circular needles do u have a video on that . Thx and keep up the amazing videos...
I just watched your knitting of the mitten cuff. I enjoy your knitting, you explain and show exactly how to do the pattern. I would like to know have you done a class on doing a sweater? I have tried several times but they always end up in the UFO's Never look right, stretch to much, etc. Please keep up the classes as they are so helpful and am finally understanding more about knitting. Still have issues with the different yarns, what works best for each item.
I have! We just finished a tutorial Knit Along where we knitted the Harvest Cardigan. The tutorials are available here on the channel if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/HPkowsWVQso/w-d-xo.html
So I tried the knot in the beginning to join in the round.. When I had flipped my work to start the other side, I found that the stitch was way too tight because of this, so I had to cut my yarn open and start over again :( I couldn't get it onto the needle. Otherwise, great tutorial!
I had a real mess. My orientation was off. I haven’t used magic loop before so I got it all wrong. I had to frog and try several times to get it right. Hopefully it’s right. I get turned around very easily.
I love your videos. I knit my first mittens following your awesome video. I would like to make a pair with the snowflake. In order to ensure the snowflake is on the top of each hand, When I knit the second mitten in magic loop, do I simply knit main colour on first needle, And then follow the chart on the second needle of that round? I guess the first mitten would be following chart on the first needle. Thank you!
I'm jumping in on this late... but I'm in :-) Can this be done using the Two At A Time Magic Loop method that you taught on a previous video? I suffer from Second "X" syndrome *hahahaha
I guess what I wanted to ask is, is the yarn that is on the needle counted as a row. Would the yarn on the needle be row 4? Sorry that I am not explaining what I mean very well. Thank you, Jana
Yes, what I mean is that if you stopped in the middle of your round to count your stitches, then the stitches on the right needle would have been knitted, but the stitches on the left needle would not have been. Does that make sense? So if you count rows, then make sure you're at the beginning of the round and yes, count the ones on the needle too.
I love your practical approach to knitting. Your videos are clear and relaxed. Thank you !!
You are so welcome!

Excellent video, as always 😊My husband & i like longer cuffs too. We stick em under our coat sleeves.
Jana, that trick with the tail is genius!

Not quite worsted weight, but check out this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLNWbWGGFfxXlIBO9qg_W7cDnFd0rg1q3V.html
Ohh, you cast on like I do. I'm an armpit knitter (learned in Spain) and this is the first time I've seen someone cast on like me. : )
He he, im a 15 year old knitter and my mom would never knit me any so I'm gonna make them myself 😂
Love your sloth series KAL you make things fun!!! thanks for all you do for us
Thank you so much ....Very Nice...love from Holland😘😘

Waiting for part 2 eagerly
Me too!

Having a problem with the switching to a larger size needle I thought you would show how this will be done for us sloths.
Are you having trouble because your stitches feel too tight when you're trying to insert the larger size needles?
I had a real mess. My orientation was off. I haven’t used magic loop before so I got it all wrong. I had to frog and try several times to get it right. Hopefully it’s right. I get turned around very easily.
Have you seen my video about using the magic loop method? th-cam.com/video/Fjz9DOIAIT4/w-d-xo.html
Can I do these on double pointed needles ? 16 still on three needles & knit with the fourth?
Sure!
I love your videos. I knit my first mittens following your awesome video. I would like to make a pair with the snowflake. In order to ensure the snowflake is on the top of each hand,

Do you have a split mit(trigger finger mitt) pattern or tutorial? Looking to make these for ski mitts to add a wool liner
I have not made these, but they're fairly highly rated on Ravelry
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/trigger-finger-mittens-for-men-and-women
How to get the patterns
The links are in the video description.
do I absolutely have to switch to larger needles? I don't have the appropriate ones and they'd be so expensive :(
If you don't switch, you may have trouble with tension in the colorwork section, resulting in your mitten being too small overall.
@@PurlTogether I see! I just bought the right needles, happy to know it wasn't for nothing haha!
I'm jumping in on this late... but I'm in :-) Can this be done using the Two At A Time Magic Loop method that you taught on a previous video? I suffer from Second "X" syndrome *hahahaha
You could knit them TAAT, then just do the thumbs individually at the end.
@@PurlTogether Great! I think I'll try that. I know this isn't exactly "following" along with the KAL but...
You're the boss of your knitting!
Jana, having trouble downloading the chart, isn't it available yet?
Did you see it on the website? from the link above, in the video description?
@@PurlTogether yes, tried several times. Thanks
I've added a new and different link. It's now a proper, downloadable pdf. Try it again please.
Do I count the yarn on the needle as a round?
If you have finished knitting the round, then yes, count the stitches on the needle... because they have been knitted.
Where is the link to the pattern?
Click "Show More" in the video description. The link to the pattern is there.
Hola megustaria que lo esplicara en español por favor gracias
thanks :-)
