  • The geoduck ("gooey duck") clam lives 160+ years and sports a phallic, 3-foot-long neck. It has a quirky, devoted following in Washington State.
    How do you dig a geoduck clam? What IS a geoduck clam? Why is it spelled like that and how do you really pronounce it? How do you dig them up, where can you order them to eat, and what do they taste like? All these questions and more are answered in this geoduck clam "duckumentary"!
    3 Feet Under is Emmy nominated, and played on PBS stations around the U.S.A. It won several awards at film festivals as well. Produced and directed by Justin Bookey.

    Ok so its not pronounced as geo-duck but gu-i meaning dirt in hindi and dug as dig in hindi. WHATTTTTT

    • @Emfatik
      @Emfatik  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, interesting about the Hindi meaning. The original word "gweduc" is a Nisqually Native American tribe term meaning "dig deep". Pretty close to the Hindi. Everything is related somehow...

      The worry is real... But you might be glad to know that Washington State TIGHTLY regulates geoduck harvesting, so that only a tiny fraction of the population can be captured and eaten each year. This ensures the long-term survival of this amazing species.

    You know I clicked one video ONCE about a man digging up clams with PVC pipe, and for fucking months now I get a clam suggestion in my inbox every god damn day, and now an entire documentary on them? Enough with this shit!

    He ate something that is 163 years old? That is fucking sad. Disgusting and ignorant. Let it live to be 200 or 300. What business does he have to kill and eat something that old?

    I was up late one night watching TV & saw a clip in WA State about a GOOEY DUCK (Geoduck) (largest Clam) in either the U.S. or the world? It's one very interesting creature & subjective to one's mind or thoughts when viewing the GOOEY DUCK! I wonder if it tastes exactly the same as the New England Clams &/or if it's meat is tougher & what is in its belly to clean/eat? Your thoughts?

    • @Emfatik
      @Emfatik  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. It is a fascinating creature. Kind of ugly and phallic-looking, but actually very tasty and sweet, similar to abalone! The neck part is good sliced thin and served as sashimi, with just a little ginger and soy sauce. Or you can pound it into clam fritters. The interior "breast" part is quite tender and makes a good stir fry.
