    I bought this game day one and never regretted it. My youngest son loved it, too. As a fan of deck-builders and card games, this game is great. There was plenty of strategy and deck options to keep me entertained the entire way. The story was okay but the gameplay was amazing.

      Glad to hear! I'm actually not the biggest fan of card games myself. Every now and again, one will come along that I like and might sink a lot of hours into. But I did like how Midnight Suns did it. The 8 card limit made things manageable for me and I could envision how I might want to create a deck. Then I just needed to do that for each hero. A lot of options but approachable enough for many players.

    You got it done! One of my favorite games ever. Great review.

      Thanks! Glad you liked it. I really wanted to try it with the DLC but never picked them up. Now I'm not sure if I'd be too keen to give it another go given that the game takes so long to finish. It was a great time though.

    I bought this game on sale last year for myself as a Christmas gift, then the very next month got a second copy in the Humble Bundle (gave that one to a friend). I wasn't too mad to get 2 copies, since it was a blast to play and worth sharing. I had the DLC and added a couple mods to speed up some aspects of the game, but I still spent a ton of hours on it, upwards of 150 I think. I really enjoyed the combat, and I think the writing was significantly better than I would have expected from this type of genre game with this IP.
    I wish it got a lot more attention, because banging out another calamitous story for the Midnight Suns to tackle, and picking a new roster of heroes and villains to play with would be extremely doable, given the massive Marvel catalog. It seems unlikely these days, but some minor gripes aside, you have to give the devs credit for putting together a really competent product, which made entertaining choices with the IP, and had a very cool combat system combining pool table positioning and collectible card game mechanics. It's remarkable that it works at all, let alone became an obsession of mine for a month or so.
    Perhaps it's a good thing that this review is from fully 14 months after the last DLC for the game dropped. It shows there's still interest in the property... right? I'm not deluding myself... correct?

      On a YT algorithm related note: you should definitely include some hashtags related to Deadpool in the description... what with the movie being out right now and stuff...

      I wholeheartedly agree. I really want to see a sequel. Or at least something like it again in the near future. I think Marvel is just too big though and investors expect way too much from it now. But haha, I mean, maybe? I originally got it in Humble and played it with the intent of reviewing. I don't usually worry too much if it the game is new or not because I can't keep up with new releases anyway (no time or money to do so).
      That's a good idea to use Deadpool. I'll add the hashtag in the description. Thanks!
      Also, I really liked your pool table analogy. I don't know why that never came to my mind when writing the review but it makes so much sense.

    Yeah that game I think many skipped because of its origin, but I heard enough about it being pretty good in gameplay.
    I'm def going to play it at some point.
    Also, good news! I started a new goal to play one game of the humble choice every month, this month I managed to do the figment games! They were neat.

      Yeah, it's weird how that played out. So many people gave the game solid reviews...yet it underperformed in sales. And I guess at the end of the day, that's what the shareholders want so...no sequel probably.
      And that's a great idea! I try to do the same, but not always successful. I think only 3 months out of this year so far where I played a game from the bundle outside of the review I made for it. How did you like the Figment games though?

      Heh, well it definitely took a while. I started playing this basically when we got the game back in January. Had it done last month or so, but I had just been dragging my feet on writing the script, recording, and then finding the appropriate clips for the video edit. Glad I got it done. Really happy with how the video turned out.

    I just need to rewatch the marvelmovies first, sometime

      Haha, that's a whole endeavor on its own. Although, you definitely don't need to in order to play this game. There is no tie in with the movies at all so really it would only be refreshing you on the characters themselves. With some of them not even having a show/movie.

      @@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews Except for The Hunter, every character has a show or movie. And Sara, but she's not a playable hero. It's NOT the version in the game for several of the characters, but there IS a show or movie for that marvel 'hero'.

      @@wolf3794 Yes, this. That was something I actually forgot to mention in the video about the Hunter and that they were a customizable character. Obviously someone made for the sole purpose of telling this particular story.

    There was a lot of game with linear stories in the past. I don't think EVERY game shoould pursue branching paths. I'm cool on the choices being how you drag your character in the linear story. It's meaningful enough for me if you unlock the light or dark rewards or how long you take to reach the objectives.

    • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews
      @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's definitely a valid point. I think that I felt that it would have benefited from branching paths because of how much dialogue there was. I got to choose things a lot but none of it really mattered. Other than, of course, the journey in and of itself which was fine.
      Originally, I thought there might be some sort of light/dark option that it was building up to but that was solely just used for gameplay purposes. Didn't seem to affect dialogue options I could choose and obviously there is only one ending. Once again...I'm pining for a sequel to see how and if they would expand on this. But enh...oh well.

    With how expensive the Marvel license is, if that game didn't sell truckloads of copies then it might never get a sequel.
    It looks quite interesting, but maybe the people into Xcom and Marvel are two different crowds altogether ?

    • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews
      @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I think the game released at a time when Marvel's popularity was a bit in a slump. The recent phase of Marvel movies have been hit or miss from what I hear (mostly miss). Guessing people didn't see that coming when Midnight Suns was originally pitched for development.
      And yeah, you may be right. I think fans of XCOM might not have cared for MIdnight Suns though mainly because it does differ a lot from what people would have originally expected as a turn-based tactics game from Firaxis.

    • @SenMayerGaming
      @SenMayerGaming หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews XCOM fans didn't particularly like the card system if I remember well, I saw a lot of negative press due to that, it probably didn't help the game to sell well.
      The game is also a tactical, which isn't often what kids/teenager nowadays prefer so it might have reduced the potential buyers as well.
      Those are in my opinions the two biggest targets for that game and it probably failed to please both.
      Which now leave them with a license that probably ask them to sell at minimum of 5 millions copies to make a profit due to how Marvel's licensing is awfully expensive (we saw that with the Insomniac leak).
      And I can see why that game failed, but honestly as a player I do not like logic like this because if we only thought this way we'd only get the same shit served every years and eating the same dish everyday get old really quickly.
      Let's appreciate Firaxis for "taking a risk"
      You might be right with the movies, a few other Marvel games did badly recently (I think of Marvel Avengers and that other one that Square Enix did that I do not remember the name of.)
      I'm curious to see if Xbox can make Blade a success but since it's the dishonored team working on it, it should be doing okay.
      I'm also wondering if Wolverine & Blade will have gore that could make those games PEGI 18 like dismemberment or blood ? or if they will stick to being kid friendly.
      It would be a mistake in my opinion to not make Wolverine/Blade sever limbs from their enemies.

    • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews
      @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I forgot about the Blade game. I also want to see more of that one Captain America game with Black Panther they showed an announcement trailer for some time back.
      But you're right. Firaxis experimenting should definitely be commended. There's really not enough of that in AAA space these days because publishers all want to play it safe for their financial numbers.

      @@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews I've had no idea such a game was planned, I must have completely missed the trailer.
