    • @KIDSOUL777
      @KIDSOUL777 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree with you. Interest on top of interest is owed, yes indeed. The American government stubbornly clutched its pockets intentionally to delay reparations. As there is no way with America being that racist, would ever want to see a black family prosper in those times. Look how long it took them to observe Juneteenth as a federal holiday. That speaks volumes about how long America has been in a stubborn state of mind concerning matters of ADOS.

      I disagree . Black Americans got the greatest reward in the USA. They got USA citizenship. That the cost of 600000. American soldiers lives. Plus it is written in the 14 amendment, that federal government will not be liable for slavery. And Liberia was created for the free slaves to return to Africa of their own free will. Now like 160 years later , black Americans want money for slavery? I say no. Too much blood and destruction was caused by freeing the slaves.

    This is ignorant. Some Blacks owned slaves. Many other nationalities have also served basically as slaves or indentured servents. How about indentured textile workers who burned in fire in unsafe buildings? MANY immigrants arrived AFTER slavery ended - inculding Blacks ! How in God's name could you even figure out who is owed and who should pay on such a large scale?
    Injustice occurs to ALL people. If "the nation" owes any "group" it should be the indigenous people. But how many have not fallen in love with someone of another race and no longer 100% indigenous. The same is true of every other race. So. To be fair first you would have to prove a "slave" lineage, loss and percent of ancestry.

      Genealogical studies, census records and family trees can absolutely determine who are the descendents of slaves. Although indentured servitude is indeed horrible, nothing compares to chattel slavery. That is why it is the central scar in USA history. @22:20 I disagree with Coleman Hughes about the statutes of limitations. You can't casually compare a mass crime such as slavery to any other corruption committed in 1865. I disagree with his opinion as a reason to use the statutes of limitations to oppose reparations. Why? Back then the legal and political fields of the country were racist and corrupt as a whole. Communities, government, and individuals helped perpetuate racism which in turn helped suppressed and delay reparations in a stubborn, arrogant, and nasty way.
    So casually saying a mass crime such as slavery and racism is past the statutes of limitations in legal terms you got to ponder some things. First of all, it's the SCALE of the crime on a mass level we are addressing and also the perpetuation of that crime after slavery was abolished. Even though it was abolished, crimes against the dignity of those people were in a perpetual state of racial tension and distress that lasted for generations.
    Also, we are addressing the restorative nature, that was deliberately delayed by white supremacists (past and present). If a man can't see It was their intent to use the statutes of limitations to get away with this crime and avoid paying for the use of free slave labor...then that man is a blind man to the subversive tactics white supremacists use on black Americans several times over generations.

      The statue of limitations was written in the 14 amendment. Section 4 of the 14 amendment says that the federal government will not be liable for slavery

    • @KIDSOUL777
      @KIDSOUL777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-gu8fg7ft5b Even if you were right about the government not being liable for slavery (because it says so in the amendment)...It would be a fickle contradictory arrangement. Why? Because if you say that African Americans were awarded citizenship, then What about the OTHER AMENDMENTS that were not honored by the American federal government in the treatment of ADOS after slavery? I say not honored as they allowed things to happen and sat idly by as white mobs, racist individuals, and white supremacist groups, at state and local levels treated black people like garbage and were never brought to justice.
      There are too many amendments that were broken, or personal boundaries of African Americans that were crossed by white supremacists and bigots that governed with legal and political power. Remember Jim Crow? That was a shameful incident in history that got your opinion looking like a contradiction. Many other things were done to African Americans during, but specifically, AFTER slavery that was unconstitutional and contradicted some of the Amendments based on ADOS treatment in America. Even if you were half right about the 14th amendment, Jim Crow laws and racist horrific treatment of black Americans AFTER slavery was unconstitutional and didn't honor all the other amendments. You know it.
      The point you made about the statutes of limitations that are somehow in section 4 as a clause to keep America from being responsible to pay the debt of slavery only proves my point that I disagree with Coleman Hughes in the video above. American government back then intentionally put that there for a reason...Yet when it comes to paying reparations or compensation to other groups of people in America that went through distress such as The Japanese, Native Americans, and other groups there is no problem. Why are Black Americans getting these delays to be compensated for their legitimate hardships? Therefore, reparations would be owed for slavery and incidents after slavery as they are treatments that targeted the humanity and livelihood of black Americans. Also, it's not a new thing for the Constitution to be revised by Congress.

    Slavery has been a universal institution for thousands of years as far back as you can trace human history. And what we are looking at is if slavery is something that happened to one race of people in one country when in fact the spread of it was around the world.
    In 1776, which is when Adam Smith published The Wealth of Nations as well as the United States got started,he said that Western Europe is the only place in the world where there is no slavery. And even the Western Europeans had vast numbers of slaves in the western hemisphere but not in Western Europe itself. And so if you’re going to have reparations for slavery it’s going to be the greatest transfer of wealth back and forth because the number of whites, for example, who were enslaved in North Africa by the Barbary pirates exceeded the number of Africans enslaved in the United States and in the American colonies before that put together. But nobody is going to North Africa to ask for reparations because nobody is going to be fool enough to give it to them.
    These people have to take a chill pill, digest the facts and realities, and move on instead of blaming all their troubles on a stupid idea that someone owes them anything for picking cotton for free.

The Answer to these questions is None! White privileges still exist! Yes 3.6 % of Black people were able to overcome white privilege out of 41.6 million black people! Congressmen Kiley said investing in education is the single best thing that we can do, so where is the nationwide call to 'refund public education' by both sides of the political divide? Every day Black children fall further behind in educational ability/achievement while little to nothing is done to change that trajectory. Why haven't all the tradition courses that were taught in public schools been reinstituted, knowing how vital they are to the process of producing well-rounded healthy members of society? Where is the national public campaign to stress the importance of education? Why is even parenting been instituted as a course in schools. It is the most difficult jobs perform, certainly a most important one. Surely, we all can agree on what the basics of good parenting are irrespective of our varying beliefs and ideologies. Why can't first get the gains possible in the areas we can agree on instead of ignoring them just to repeatedly arguing over what we disagree on? Maybe we might find that those gains were a big part of the solution, if not the solution itself.

Funding is needed to pull these area targeted by RED LINING to make these areas livable, Healthcare, places of recreation and learning to swim, access to job training facility, Funding for community activism to keep liquor store and businesses that do not support a community out. Funding for parental and community centers for daycare and adult care. Funding to make up for lack of community resources impoverished areas namely the schools. I look and see they are about to get rid of affirmative action so that small number of college students getting in to higher learning center is jeopardy due to a system that they have little control over. Even if you just calculate lost wages, there is clearly money owed. If you worked at McDonald's for minimum wage, you know you would demand that they pay you your last check when you quit, right?
    So what would a "field hand" be paid in 1864? Now, multiply that by a lifetime for their work. So a ridiculously low annual wage, multiplied by 60 or 70. The lifespan can be determined by census records and genelogical studies. Honestly, even if you didn't add interest and punitive damages for the cruel physical punishment visited upon those enslaved workers, those lost wages are a sum of money that no one can dispute. In a country as wealthy as ours, an apology without a monetary award is hollow and insulting.

    From the 1970's to the 1990's, black families worked for the opportunity to get out of the ghetto's and small country towns which the majority of black people lived from 1865 to around 1950. The gap that persisted from 1950 to 1970 was the biggest change that occurred in America than at any other time in this country and the first time in American history that black people had advancement, out of 400 years. The black children of the black families that grew up in the 1960's and 1970's were the air apparent of a black heritage that mostly lived in black communities and ghetto's which changed from the wave of a changing society. During the 1970's and 1990's black kids experienced the closest and same level of what white kids had a chance to experience since the inception of this country. Black kids during that time were able to go to school with other white kids more comfortable and confident than their parents. There was a embolden attitude that young black decedents of former slaves that experienced the first opportunity that no other generation experienced before and shocked white people. When white people began to realize that the black kids were nothing like their parents, white people began to flee out of the slowly growing neighborhoods of black families in the 1980's. The more black families that moved into a white neighborhood in the 1980's and 1990's, the more what families would move out of the urban areas and move to the suburb and eventually building new houses and developments. The black and brown families inherited the homes that were formerly owned by white families as bank capitalized off of the transfer of wealth through an unfair loan agreement that benefited financial institutions. At this point, the US Federal government should have collected enough taxes from the banks that earned a profit from the transfer of equity and mortgage loans toward the development of affordable housing rather than leaving black families in ghetto's and inner city impovished areas. The equal financial gains from banks should have been equally gained between both groups, but the Federal Government held the advantage to white families and did not enforce the same terms as black families. It was a one sided profit gain from banks and financial institutions. How much did banks and the early 1980's corporate investors gain during that period and still gaining wealth from the foreclosures of the same properties that they gained when they brought that same property back 30 years later. During the same time where did that profit come from to build a new suburbia for white families and there was no money to help support and invest into a new growing community that would have allowed black families to do the same as their predecessors. Instead, black families were slowly pushed out of industries and jobs that allowed them to purchase properties in the first place and then crack accelerated the addiction problem that pledged the black community. Crack paved the way for the gentrification of the black community as the kids of the 1970's and 1980's began to earn money in alternative ways. By the 1990's the 70's and 80's babies were influenced by gangsters, athletes and hustlers due to the liberation from money and fame. There was no more influence from working a full time job and going getting an education to get a good job which lead to a high pregnancy rate and a high rate of incarceration of minorities of mostly black males. A entire generation of black males were misled and misguided by the desire to not be poor or live better than their parents who failed to accomplish their dreams and lost focus by a system that caused or allowed addiction and marginalized their parents by different barriers. Parents did not reach their goals because of the failed investments that the Feredal Government could have done to prevent poverty. Equality paying the same taxes as every group in America but not getting the same representation as other groups, is what destroyed the black family in America. The fault of the offspring of slaves and the aboriginals of America , should be repaired by the Federal Government for the unequal representation over the past 40 years that exceeds the amount of time which reparations should have been paid by about 100 years. Slavery, brutal treatments, and the Jim Crow laws is similar to what the Jews experienced during the 1900's but lasted over 300 years longer and still to this day. Jews were also repaired for what they experienced from Germany and repaid with a independent country, while black people, especially foundational blacks have been on a continuous bottom caste of American society.

      @avenue8822 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please stop using the description 'Black people'. We are talking about African Americans, not all Black people. Maybe it's time to put the focus on where it should be. People who commit most of the crime, with parents who dont care or dont teach responsibility, and with zero emphasis on getting an education, can not keep blaming the evil White man for imaginary oppression in today's America.
      And how dare you compare slavery to the Holocausts. That is disgusting. 188,000 out of millions of slaves were brought to America. 6 million Jews were exterminated, and their families had everything taken from them. And GERMANY paid direct survivors.
      America has done more to protect ONE RACE than any other COuntry in history, but you can't even help yourself. WOuld you like proof? If all Black people faced the same impossible hurdles, then why are Nigerian-Americans, many who immigrated here in the 60's and 70's with nothing, the most educated and most successful of all races?
      I had a hard time digesting all the drivel, half truths and blame playing in your comment. But suffice to say, clean your own house first if you want to have a good discussion about unequal treatment.

    • @suezbell1
      @suezbell1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you think blacks are the bottom caste, try being an atheist in the Bible belt. Skipping over the reality that no few whites came here as "ndentured servants" and their heirs seem to mostly be "indentured" to some financial institution for their entire adult working lives even now ... Reality: IF reparations are paid by the federal government, that nation debt will be repaid by whom? all taxpayers, including the heirs of those that receive it? Taxpayers who are not heirs of any slave owner? There is no ending to the twisted economic issues -- and that isn't even considering the fraudulent claims of those demanding money that are not the heirs of US slaves.
      ONE idea might be first identifying the heirs -- proven -- and having them get a written acknowledgment and apology from the then president of the US ... and... then what?... a college or trade school scholarship at a state owned institution for all the current heirs of each slave that are interested ... in the state in which their ancestor was enslaved so both state and federal restitution? a highly collectible federal gold coin for each heir ... a coin that eventually might be worth payment denied for the labor of the slaves?
      The most important thing we can do now is to get the present in order and keep the future on tract to ensure individual liberty, equality of right and justice for all as well as more equal opportunity. That requires voting for every Democrat on the ballot at every opportunity AND staying involved to influence the policies of those officials in leading the nation in the correct direction.

We as a community, in acknowledging our flaws are simply reflecting back to the world a pain, a disdain, and anguish in which we have been burden to carry as a result of the pain we continue to endure. Our homes have been burned down fathers slung from the oak and children gunned in the street, all because we are mistreated, misguided, and ultimately misunderstood.
