The main reason I bought the 2.5 st. Sounds immense
used to love my Focus ST, was running over 300bhp and sounded spot on especially when you nailed the gear change at the right time ;)
Id never get bored with that sound

@@Roadwarrior92 i'd bet cylinder sleeve cracked. And he had to replace like 30% of the engine & put reinforcement around top of the sleeve to keep them from cracking. And if engine is out & open he could put forged internals & port head. 700+ avilable :)

Got one in Australia a couple of weeks ago. Called an XR5 here. Had been searching for one for over a year without engine issues/excessive body damage and the right price. Not easy to find under $15000 AUD without issues these days.
In Portugal they are like 35.000€ 😅

So i got a Volvo S40 T5, basically the same engine and drivetrain, no R-design, some nice wheels, a little lower Bilstein Suspension and a "custom" Twin exhaust. Tuned to about 270hp, some bolt-on mods and small stuff, nothing insane.
Its really fun at meets when you have something that looks like the most basicass car sound like this and outperform every E46, c-class, civic and whatever else shows up. and im gonna argue that, here in germany, a decent E46 is gonna cost you about the same, slightly less maybe.

Love the sound of the 5 pot, but I'm afraid that the manufactured machine gun sounds are not my cup of tea. Being of a certain age, I remember when high performance cars with carbs made the occasional pop on the over-run. I suppose that this was the inspiration behind today's sonic popfest which, I believe (but please correct me if I'm wrong) is the result of fuel being fed to the hot exhaust by design.
Anyway, love the 5 pots and your videos, not so sure about the pops. Cheers.
Isn't it to mimic anti lag and the likes? But yeah pretty sure it's something to do with the map also...
I have to admit, Super Lazy, that fuel injection and turbos are a mystery to me, but I'm willing to learn about the workings in a broad sense - too long in the tooth to delve into the details. Re-mapping in my day was playing with needles and jets. There seems to be a lot more to adjust nowadays, so I suppose pops are created because ..........they can be. 🤔
@@BarryCatt ecu is computer that controls the timing, so it can basically move the timing of spark and allow fuel through to be ignited in the exhaust pipes.
I may be way off but that's my interpretation of it.. I'm a home gamer too and by no means an expert
Barry Catt Can’t disagree.. as a current owner of a Mk2 RS, I’m also of an age where a pair of 45 Weber’s on a 2L Pinto were where it was at.. They were on my wish list back in ‘89 for my MkV Cortina

Picked up a MK 2 ST a few weeks ago (badged as XR5 Turbo in Aus) and omg I'm so impressed, what a pig of a car, 5cylinder has such a deep throaty growl
I got my XR5 a couple of weeks ago.. So impressed with it. Love the 5 pot. That sound! 👌 + drives like a dream.

How to achieve that deep roar sound almost like a jet kinda? I mean the stock rs dont sound as much as these do.. Simply do you need a good exhaust, and with straight pipe to get that sound or which moods exactly to get this sound fx. at 0:08 - not speaking of the pops and bangs, but the sound itself. Cheers
Uprated exhaust with no resonators, decat and downpipe gives a deep roar. Then a pops and bang remap if you want the bangs and flames. Best off doing the mod block update as the cylinder walls don't like that kind of remap

How do some of them pop so loud ? Is it mapping? Does it do any damage
Upgrade the exhaust, decat with downpipe.Then a pops and bang remap. Have to strengthen the cylinder walls with a mod block kit to handle the map otherwise they will not last long
