part of me feels like much of the games they asked about was to group the testers into players who play a certain type of game rather than trying to see how well the game compares to those. as in... it's more like "what will someone who enjoys a certain type of game think about this?" rather than "will this feature in our game be good enough compared to the same feature in a different game?" it can be a part of the screening process where they filter out a certain bunch of people who can fairly test the game unbiased by the mechanics. as in, if somoene enjoys turn based stuff but hates everything else, maybe getting their opinion on what can improve the game might not be the smartest idea since they don't have an idea about it at all to compared the game to begin with, etc.
Also I think the global technical test would be more of a marketing thing than just for feed back. they already finished their CN test with a lot of people being happy about the overall game with some stuff that needs improvement (like the AI for an example). they could also be doing the technical test to solidify the opinions they have about their own game after that test, just so they can prioritize what needs to be fixed asap and stuff. It'd be interesting to see if the global test would have improvements over the CN one. but I'm not expecting there to be much and that's fine too.
All in all I don't think the game would come out at least till the end of next year. definitely not before

That's certainly one of many considerations I made while writing this video. They don't need Endfield to be better, they just need it to be good enough. Or it could be just because they want to pick the genre of games with the most players, and try to figure out market sentiments. And in some ways, it is a marketing stunt, because they do twitter giveaways to give public a chance to play it early.
If that's the case, that will be a very bad playtesting mentality on the dev side. As a game developer myself, getting more playtesters are never a bad thing, especially if you can get them for free. Obviously, CN players have different mentality than the rest of the world, if gacha game genre can flourish in that nation. If I am to be rude, it's my way of saying "normies" POV is different than critics POV. Again, I'm not sure who are the players chosen on that CN test, but having genuine game critics will help you diagnose potential design problems in the future.
That's a bit disappointing for me to be honest. I was hoping Hypergryph could help push innovation on the open world gacha game. Everything after Genshin doesn't feel that great. The market has certainly stagnant and turns stale.

    • @manjiste1239

I do agree they need to get seperate opinion from game critics@@FeyHunt. There would be a clear difference of feedback from them, people who have a lot of experience playing a lot of games and people who just occasionally play games that will still apply for the test cuz they wanna try it and not to actually review the build and give critics. I wonder how they're gonna seperate those tho.
Also I don't think they're trying to innovate less. having played AK for almost 4 years now they've tried to invent something everytime it feels like (some things they innovate can be really annoying like how this cc I had to stall for 3 and a half hours lmao). I was saying maybe they'd wanna know feedback on specific things on stuff that's already in the game and not like... feedback saying the entire game should be different. They still could do more than what's on the test itself tho. afterall, who'd have thought genshin's only endgame content would be a card game XD despite it being a 3D game with lots of exploration and stuff. I have hope they'd do well in endfield to make some form of fun endgame content like IS2/3/4 in AK.

Wow video feels nostalgic. Reminds me of 5 years back, when Arknights alpha footage was released, back then Guards used to genrate dp and mon3tr had sniper range and chen was a free six star(each chapter even gave her pots). I also see the people worried about its future like before. At that time no one knew what this super niche TD game was capable of in hands of a amature artist.
That same person used to work for MICA (GFL). He left the company with a bright future just because his ideas didn't align with GLF story direction. made a company on loans with few of his friends, he couldn't make a RPG game because he couldn't afford to hire a bigger dev team for his project so he made a TD game and published the game in CN without a publisher.
5 years later GFL is barely surviving.
Point is Arknights is the product of right directions. The core gameplay you like is the vision of few individuals perfected over time not what players wanted during alpha test. There was alot of people saying "this game is unbalanced, mechanics are basic, enemies are too strong etc, no end game content"
We players should help them on technical level only, try not to influence the direction of the gameplay.

      WAIT, GUARDS DID GENERATE DP?!
But in all seriousness, I think I am not overtly negative in my coverage here. As I said in the video, I want Endfield to be great. But I can only judge it on what I can see right now.
If you are a veteran player from day 1 of Arknights, surely you also notice how the game gets better and better, yes? The fact that Arknights is better today than at launch doesn't invalidate the complains from players back then.
I would even argue further that the players concerns are what helped make Arknights great, just like every other great games out there.
From my experience as a game developer, gamedevs have different views and visions that doesn't necessarily translate well into player experience. When they play their game, of course they will say it's the best game ever made. But it is their job to convey that into player experience, which in my opinion, is sorely lacking in the current form of Endfield.
Had the players had been more vocal about their pain points back then at year one of Arknights, could Arknights be even better today? We don't know. But I think we should try airing our pain points anyway.

@@FeyHunt yeah Guards S1 was the only source of dp generation. In fact vanguards didn't exist back then, for example base Texas was a *5 Guard. Hoshi had 5 blocks, Skyfire S2 was her normal attack, she was a very broken caster.
This is not even the most disgusting fact.
Did you know in pre alpha build you could deploy multiple copies of an operator. Imagine dropping 3 Texas alt at the same time.
There is a content creator, who made a video about the state of beta Arknights this year. In that video you can see those alpha footage.
I can't wait to see how Enfield evolves over multiple tests.

judging with those questions, I think HG really cared for our experience but there are plenty of stuffs behind it as well :
One. HG trying to understand the market of open world RPG in international game community to not just able to compete with Genshin or other games but also able to stand in the market to gain the money in order to get more funds for developing games in the long term run.
Two. They trying to understand WHAT we WANTED to enjoy and experience, of course, they knew their combat system are still raw fresh, that's why they wanted to ask us how they cook the game for us to enjoy.
Three. The why the name is Technical Test is just small fraction of what HG cooking like a test food sample in the supermarket. In the first gameplay trailer, we can see the region is different in the technical test, which mean they still dont want to reveal more with a theory they learn something from Genshin map release per update thing. Plus they may dont want us to play an unfinished piece of art with in this update for few days then leave.
Four. With the optimization thing, I doubt they are fixing the graphic to under to get on the mobile due to open world, the amounts of poly have to render and stuff, more coding and work.
Five, for the strategic element from what I have to understand for them is they are still working on it heavily because they dont know us player want what kind of strategy, they also dont realy want the Arknights tower defense replica again in open world form. NO, they have to think , design which can really took time to find what we desire and able to make unique mechanics that stand out the rest of the strategy gacha games.
Conclusion? Let them cook like how Rockstar studio did with GTA 6

I also notice something weird with the games they scout, I think they don't want to exagerated on the strategic part, bc if we compare one game that they put that was D4 vs their competition POE, you can say that POE is more complicated than D4, but the results can be more addictive, if you want something flashy, I think they don't want to scared "normies" like POE do, I'm a noob on POE, but I like the game, let's see if with this new test, they change things at least the little ones or annoying ones, also goo luck to everyone that apply to test :)

Personally, I am not attracted to hack/slash games, especially if I have to add the grinding system to level up Arknights characters, it would be quite tiring, I was expecting a game where you would join other people to achieve objectives together or separate into missions so that each one fulfilled its purpose. One of the plays I saw was slash slash power, defeating the enemy and getting the loot at the end, that was a red flag for me.

Yes, I do agree! My experience with soulslike really ruined all games for me.
Hack and slash are very mindless and grindy by design. It's made to appeal to our monkey brain: "monkey see flashy-flashy, monkey feels good"
The combat mechanic in Endfield is very mindless. One could argue that it's even more mindless that Genshin, because you just need to hit the boss until their toughness breaks.

    • @FeyHunt
      @FeyHunt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

There are all game development jargons.
Alpha test is a test on the early build of the game. It's usually to test core mechanic and game stability (bugs, crash, etc)
Beta test is a test done just before the game launched. It's already a completed game, but it just needs one last final check to fix out some minor bugs.
Technical test is just a term they made to make it ambiguous. It could refer to the test before Alpha, or maybe after Beta, or somewhere in between.
It could also mean a test on "Vertical Slice" of the game, where gamedev created a completed small prototype of the game just to test if the game is fun to play before fully committing.

  • @96kami31
    @96kami31 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Most likely they require opinions from these players so they can brainstorm and improve the overall existing mechanics in the game, one of them being the combat. Might sound outlandish but it's fairly normal imo, not that weird. The game is still very literally bare-bones technical test, some features might be missing or simply not implemented yet.
And i believe they won't change the environment of Talos-2 at all. It's already explicitly written in their twitter and many other sources, "Talos-II is a largely uncharted planet rich in resources, but is also fraught with unknown perils and threats. Most of humanity lives in a relatively small area known as the Civilization Band. Beyond this lies a vast wilderness waiting to be explored by the most intrepid individuals."

I hope so. But there must be a limit to what they are willing to change, and what point will they need to scrap the entire game and start over. The combat is easier to be reworked than most things, so there is certainly chance it will be great. Though I doubt they will change to XCOM-style turn based combat. I think they insists on making it an action RPG.
The environment doesn't need changing, but it certainly needs polishing. As you said "fraught with unknown perils and threats", but then we can see our operators just waltzing around like it's Disneyland. Sometimes there are enemies around, but you can easily shut them down with a simple ultimate. That doesn't convey the "perils and threats" part of the lore.

They can go further with strategic aspect with that, having characters that have active/passive buff entire army, it'll make the standard content as easy as it can be but also make endgame quite tricky and challenging, it'll make hilarious synergy imagine a Defender with 7 buffers taking literally no damage. From livestream I watch, Endfield is *anime Mass Effect.* Plain and simple. Ditch the FPS gameplay in Mass Effect, and the gameplay is pretty similar.
Also, *Endfield isn't a strategy game.* Hell even the original Arknights isn't a strategy game. It's a tower defense game. For me, strategy game is more than just "putting pretty living waifu turret down and waiting for the enemy to come", it's about buiding a massive army with your economy ( Gathering resource) and production ( Building upkeep building and factory, research center) and using that army to crush the enemy. Star Craft, Warcraft, Age of Empire, Might and Magic, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander,... is a perfect representation for the gerne.

    • @FeyHunt
      @FeyHunt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think you have a point! Combat-wise, it is Mass Effect without the cover shooter part. Of course, I am NOT expecting meaningful dialogue choices like in Bioware games for a gacha game.
If Endfield was more resource management, it's interesting that they didn't put RTS games in those game list like StarCraft, Warcraft, or Total War.
Hmmmm... I rather disagree on that second point. Have you played Arknights at its peak difficulty? Or any of it's EX-stages? True, Arknights early stages are very easy and accessible to all and you can blitz through the stages with OP operators. But at some point, you will start hitting a MASSIVE roadblock that requires you to think carefully... like: Which operators to choose for this boss fight? Which operators to deploy first? Can I push forward in Contingency Contract with more debuffs on your enemy? When that point comes, not even the most broken operators can deal with the levels. You have to resort to trial and error.

@@FeyHunt Endfield doesn't go for Star Craft route because it's a Free to Play game. You can't make money from Star Craft like resource management mechanic, you need something that you can exploit to trick player into spending more money. There is a video called *Let's go Whaling* where they explain to you how to exploit video game player for more profit.
Yes. I know Arknights mechanic is sophisticate and intetesting compare to other tower defense game, which most just simply put your turret down, upgrade them and watch the enemy die. But once you drop all those complicate mechanic it's just a... tower defense at it's core. *Arknights is not a bad game.* In fact, the game is perfect for mobile, very enjoyable to play. But for me it's not a strategy game. ( I don't like tower defense game because of the passive gameplay. You wait for the enemy to come, not actively seek them out to crush them. The only tower defense franchise I really like are *11bits ANOMALY series,* in which you are the convoy taking the fight to the enemy tower network)

@@mammothmk3355 Well, and that's probably why Blizzard put StarCraft on the backburner, just because they can't monetize it with live service bs.
For the record, that video "Let's Go Whaling" is something I was taught as a game designer, and something I very much against, but can never deny.
We can agree that Arknights is not a bad game. I also don't like Tower Defense genre. I did say somewhere that TD is like an idle game with extra steps. Yes, Arknights is a TD at its core, but it's a great example of how to do TD well.
Arknights innovate on the genre by making it more strategic. They cut down the boredom of long TD waves into individual levels, and make every level impossible to look away. You still need to manage ability activation and make sure you push and pull operators on time, especially against bosses.
I don't see a problem with a boring genre being reworked to be more engaging. Genres are just neat little boxes we make to make finding similar games easier. But it's often misleading, like comparing similar FPS genre Doom vs Call of Duty.

First of all, u must praise HG for being "UNIQUE" instead copy paste Fest like other Gacha game happen RN (u must already have image what game im talking now)
Yes im very interested to play GF2, gameplay its reminds me Valkyria Chronicles (fresh new for Gacha game right?), but do you think AK need to be same with gf2? Nope, glad its different
The time i saw RPG game with Strategy element, i hype on how they gonna handle to make the gameplay
And results is fking Great for me, i mean yeah its lack alot thing for combat for "Normies" People by meaning of they don't see big opportunity from first glance gameplay
Since its "Technical Test", it has alot space to take suggestions from Player especially when they ads the game on TGA for Public CBT (Wtf HG cooking lmao, advertise game just to get more CBT player? )
Why i said big opportunity? With building stuff and knowing its HG, who knows we might have Tower defense or i should say Base defense lile Warcraft game (ex Warcraft 3 frozen throne)
I can see that coming just from how u can almost 90% build a some buildings across Map lmao
Like after anniversary 1, they introduce a new game mode like CC or IS in Arknights, which what Suitable for Enfield is Base Defense by using a Turret/weaponary building, Wall or even a Creeps/minion u can control to fight enemy (ex its event/permanent Farm spot where u put a mining machine and enemy will raid that mine spot for once/week, u can build stuff to make the defense stronger when raid is coming)

Well first of all, I appreciate your time to share your thoughts about this video. I respect it, truly.
No, I'm not saying Endfield have to be exactly like GF2. I'm just saying that a strategy game in 3D world is a better direction than making actions games, based on their past experiences.
This is not the first video I made about Endfield. I think I did give them enough praises for trying to not make the combat completely mindless, and how much I bashed Genshin's design right here: th-cam.com/video/VLshT_JtTeo/w-d-xo.html. I think I have fairly discussed some of Endfield's "potentials" and "possibilities". In fact, you may notice that I did share my excitement in the video if they choose to commit to the games they referenced in the survey.
But I can't fairly judge the current game that I see based on "potentials" and "possibilities". I'm can only express my opinions based on what I'm seeing right now: a game that lacks excitement and a clear direction. I did say in the video is that Endfield needs more time in the oven, which I believe is a fair statement.
If Endfield shows a massive progress towards those potentials, you would see me praise them because they earned it. Until then, I will point out things that may ruin their success later on, in hope that if they watch this, or they have heard someone discussing my opinions in the forum, I can contribute in helping them make this game a success.
We can all hype Endfield. Please do, because the game's success may depend on it. But I have to be realistic in my essay videos.

Makes me curious why do you want to help the devs to make this great?
I mean there are way more promising gaccha games like Wuthering waves, ZZZ, project mugen upcoming next year.
Is it just because of your interest in TD Arknights? To me this game doesn't really seems to have any potential to great even if they improve in beta drastically.
Combat is mid, setting and the world is empty, base elements might be fun in the beginning but will soon become tedious as daily quest.
Story is worse than earlier part of OG Arknights writing, memory lost again seriously? Haven't HG learned anything,at least OG AK had the proper direction in the beginning.
Most baffling part is who they are making this game for? I don't understand the hype around it.

Well... I have certain attachment to Arknights franchise, yes. I think out of all gacha games out there, Arknights' core design has been very appealing to me, primarily because of their mentality to never afraid frustrating players by giving them real challenges.
But my hope is not just for this game. As a game dev myself, I know how hard it is to make a game. Therefore, I want to see all game projects successful.
Of course, if people are interested in what I had to say, I am open for any other gacha game recommendations. As long as it is aligned with my interest. Like Girls Frontline 2 as I said in the video.
I can see that you have pretty much the same skeptical view as mine. I can respect that for sharing your opinions online.
If you have some gacha games that you like, please don't hesitate to recommend it to me. Cheers!

Oh Noooo you are so far off.
Holy shit dude, they asked about 40+ different games depending on your previous answers, including Stellaris, Minecraft, Stardew Valley.
Like imagine me making a video saying the game will be 4x Grand Strategy because they asked about Stellaris lol
This is nothing but a huuuuge stretch. Also they ask about other games in their surveys like this EVERY SINGLE TIME in EVERY SURVEY, and does EVERY OTHER Yostar game in their surveys, Aether Gazer, Azur Lane, etc.
The games listed tell you absolutely nothing about anything.

    • @FeyHunt
      @FeyHunt  ปีที่แล้ว

Really? Then why didn't they put any of the games you mentioned in this survey? Aether Gazer and Azur Lane is not in there.
