Fun fact: direct flame takes longer to melt solid ice because it heats the top layer of water in the ice so fast that it actually boils and creates a semi-insulated layer of gas, which is then replaced by the next layer. Better to use the fire to create an area of hot air around the ice rather than applying the flame directly to the ice.

Love the reactions of city boys when they see commonly used items that us country folks use. Use those brush torches all through the year clearing out fence lines and burning up leaves. They work pretty good on icy sidewalks and driveways too.

Had a block of ice we needed to get into at an elementary school age birthday party when I was a kid. Real easy and cool solution? Using a generic hose with regular water. Just the sheer volume you wind up spraying over time makes it come apart real quick and cool.
