I remember meeting Charles in Reykjavík after Secret Solstice. I drove him and Chris his sound manager to their hotel after stopping them at a traffic light and offering them a lift. He was such a genuine soul. I've always loved his music and i regret on not taking him up on his offer to come meet him in New York. R.I.P brother
I only discovered Charles Bradley about a month ago through a social media post from Nathaniel Rateliff, and then to discover his passing was both a shock and selficiously, disapointing. This man had only just got started, it's a shame the recognition came so late for him, but i'm glad the world got to see his talent before it was too late. Thanks Charles, i only just discovered you, but I'll be listening to you for years to come.
Alex Wells: I discovered him just a couple/few months ago via his stirring cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes" and fell in love with his music immediately. It saddened me to learn that he'd already been dead for about a year by the time I'd first become aware of him. There's a double-edge to his late fame: On the one hand, it's a shame that it took so long for the mainstream music world to notice him and deem him worthy of paying attention to; but, on the other hand, at the very least we got these few years with him that we got 'cuz it woulda been a bigger shame for his talent to have never been noticed at all.
I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna cry *hears Victim of Love* *sees Charles Bradley & Sharon Jones together* DAMN IT 😭😭😭 R.I.P. Charles. Never met you in person but I will always love your music.
I love this man music, he had such a warm hearted spirit full of love for the people. He really touch me when I saw interviews about his life journey and how long it took him to get were he was. Mr. Charles Bradley you will be truly missed. Keep bringing that soulful funk music up in heaven. Peace and love!
I was shocked as well. Have you noticed that seems to be the trend? Prince and David Bowie. Steve Irwin and Peter Brock. Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. Life can be so sad, but we will always have the music of Charles and Sharon to get us back together xxx
He seems like such an amazing man. I missed his show when he came through St. Louis. I'm really wishing I would have made it. I didn't think he might have been gone so soon. To be there, and to feel the love he was... transcommunicating with us all. It was really a magical thing. Taking sorrow and turning it into sharing. Taking hardship and turning it into something. A reason for us all to get together and have love for one another. I'm glad I was able to recieve the gift he shared with the world. Rest in peace, brother.
Charles story affected me a lot. I'm just so happy he got to receive all the love he deserved after all these years. That he got to taste the sweet taste of success & appreciation for what he gave us all. Still, I can't shake that feeling that it shouldn't have been so short... :\ What a special soul..
'We love you Charles!!' echoed from every mouth throughout his whole performance in London at the Daptone Soul Revue, many moons ago and the same sentiment applied to Sharon Jones and the whole collective that put together that well oiled funk machine. A memory I will treasure forever. We love you, we miss you both, thank you for blessing us and touching us all with your beautiful magical vibrations. Sleep Easy Xxx
I was fortunate enough to get to see Charles Bradley at Beale Street Music Fest. It was one of those moments in life that you never forget. To hear his passion and feel his love. It was an experience of a lifetime, one that I am so very thankful to have had. RIP sir. You are truly a legend
I saw him perform in St. Louis in 2016. One of the most memorable concert experiences of my life. I love this man and I'm sad he is gone but I'm glad I and so many others got the opportunity for him to be part of our lives. You made the world a better place Charles Bradley!
GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU CHARLES VICTIM OF LOVE BRADLEY THE SOUL LEGEND. Charles wasn't just a great artist he was a really cool laid back nice Guy.A man of character . people that have been through some really hard times and tragedy can really relate to him and feel him.Drove all the way to Colorodo to see him with Nathaniel rattliff but he got sick and didn't perform then he died a few weeks later...his mom had died though and i guess it was his time too he really touched alot of souls maybe his life was bad and tough but at the end he really served a purpose not just his music and story but he took care of his elderly mom till she died and that takes alot of heart and character. My Favorite Charles Bradley songs are Crying in the chapel, Heartaches and pain and let LOVE stand a chance. Thanks Charles I feel a pain in my chest when i think about how you died....
What a life. It's a damn shame the world had the pleasure of experiencing only a small portion of the wisdom this man shared throughout his life. Rest in peace, Charles. Your spirit will live on.
I'm still missing this man. I always liked his music since the first moment I heard it but never got to see him or get an autograph. The world lost a gentle kind soul. It's kills me inside a bit but I know somehow he is in heaven with no pain right now. And that can make us smile.
We'll always love you Charles. Rest in peace. Your voice, your music and your performances will live forever. That's the best reward of all musician career, your inmortality in the music. God bless you
the Music he and Sharon made with their family at Daptone will live forever, and tell the story of their greatness. RIP to both legends, and big hugs to everyone at Daptone. The Funk lives on.
I’m an old punk lover of an eclectic mix of rock soul punk experimental indie and lots of music and you touched my soul more than any musician in years and I want to say thank you band label as you truly were both and to Charles Bradley thanks for being you and RIP know your truly one of the greats The End
I would've given my life for his in a heartbeat just cause I know how much his music means to so many and giving him more time to expand his late discovery in life is such a no brainer. Still, I'm glad for the music we did get. It's truly timeless stuff and one of the most potent antidepressants I've ever come across. It's the kind of music that reminds you about the beauty of life, and the hardships. I absolutely love that I got to exist at the same time as this beautiful soul. RIP to Charles Bradley.
I might be the only one who cried more for Charles pass away than I did for a family member! And now when I listen to his music I can't contain tears and my soul is being flattered. He will be always in our hearts and minds Charles ! After 6 months of his death i still don't believe his gone! I do not accept it .... Love and good vibrations from Guatemala to all those beautiful souls around the world !
I wish I still had the chance to meet him one day and say to him "Thank you for being a reason to keep going and never giving up" I hope he knew just how much he meant to musicians still trying to make their way in the world. I'm only 26 but grappling with age anxiety in relation to the music industry, but Charles had it right. "just get on up and do your thing"
Thank you for sharing this. I can tell he was wonderful, genuine, beautiful human being. Unfortunately, I never met him or seen him perform but he touched me immediately when I heard him; his spirit lives on . He left us with a bountiful treasure of his soulful voice and music. Thank you Daptone Records for introducing him to the world.
Losing Sharon and Charles so close together was hard. I burst into tears when i read that Charles had died. Such a beautiful soul, a wonderful man. He will be missed.
Thank you Charles for your music and you as a person. Truly an inspiration everytime I heard you sing. So thankful I got to see you live. I will never forget it. Peace
What a goal for us all. To look back and know you really did something worth recognizing, must be an amazing feeling in old age. I understand he had regrets, but lord what a story

His story is inspiring and I'm glad he got to success before he left our planet physically, he deserved it! The screaming eagle of soul, you made your mark here for sure brother man. Rest in Peace
He is the true face of the tragedy of the millions of black people in America. Really inspiring figure and heart-breaking to see him passed early. May you rest in peace Charles, you believed in God and may God now be with you.
He will go down as a legendary soul singer. missed by many
Correction...He will go UP...not down.
