I don't know how many people realises how hard is to play *that* loud still having a beautiful and controlled tone. From 4:52 on, is unbelievable how Horowitz is able to play the melody with the weakest fingers of the hand and make it shines above the fierce and thunderous chords below.
Thank you so much! Magnificent. I heard Horowitz play the second sonata in Seattle not long before this recording, and would hear him play it once more, in 1979, in Toronto. Needless to say, those concerts were two of the most unforgettable experiences of my musical life. This recording captures so well the sheer sublimity and beautify of Horowitz's playing of this great masterpiece.

i don't think i've ever heard the Bb bass octaves at the start with such power - what an eye-opener
helps to ground the pulse of those sections too
1:30 second theme always remind me of SCRIABIN (god)
This is like the best ver. of Rach Sonata 2 ever
One of the best versions of this piece
4:29 sounds like it could lead into the climax of ballade no.1 of chopin
Haha true. But with much more dense harmony
Amazing! Thank you for your fantastic channel and efforts please continue!
