    You are so lucky to be able to dispense high quality eyewear.
    For close to forty years I have been dispensing mostly Luxottica level eyewear.
    The odd time someone brings in their own frames ,like some of the quality brands that you proudly display on your videos, and I have to remind myself to just be nonchalant and act like - Ho Hum , been there ,done that.
    I am a big fan of yours. Keep up the great work.

      @thespectaclefactory  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you! I am lucky. But you can still have a big effect on people by helping them select the right style even at the Luxottica level! So keep up the good work yourself 😉
      I appreciate your support 👍

    OK so I personally love rating systems such as the one you've introduced today. For my whole life I have argued with anyone who cares to listen that absolutely everything can be objectively ranked - I mean you'll always have a degree of subjective bias but what the ranking system does is provide a framework that abstracts our subjective bias away from influencing the end result, thereby making the end result objectively more reliable and more meaningful. In this video for example if you'd have asked me for a total score for Barton Perreira from the off I would have expected higher than 7.6, but when you break it down into style / originality / craftsmanship / comfort / durability I would actually agree with every single one of your individual ratings and therefore 7.6 is actually a fair result. I am very much looking forward to seeing the other brands rated in upcoming videos and I suspect there'll be a fair few surprises, where you would expect X to be higher than Y but ends up actually scoring lower, or vice versa. It's like taking your tier list from last year and really taking it up to the next level.
    On a completely unrelated note, is it true that Zeiss are going to be releasing a new rose/pink coloured flash coating?

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Raymond, thank you and I agree that 7.6 seems low but I suspect will actually become a pretty good score - I'll try to be as objective as possible. I like to think I am most of the time as I'm quite a self-critical person.
      Zeiss first told me about a new rose-coloured AR coating which they were developing around 3 years ago, and I haven't heard anything since. I would definitely welcome it.

      @@thespectaclefactory That's interesting that it is AR rather than flash, but either way doesn't sound like anything is coming soon 😂 thanks

    I've been wearing Barton Perreira Cassady for 8 years and I do have to say they are the best frames I've ever had. They fit like a glove and were perfect from the start - no adjustment was ever needed, and have held up very well despite me not being all that careful. They are by far the most comfortable frames I've ever had. I just bought some Etnia Barcelona and I wish I just stuck to Barton Perreira. No one seems able to get the adjustment right on the pair of Etnia and it affects my vision, not just comfort. I've also had Prodesign Denmark, which used to be made in Japan, and they were much better when they were made in Japan. I wish you showed women's frames as well.

    Love the simplicity of the Ebbets. Those titanium arms look really comfortable to wear👍
    I thought the BP brand would get a higher score as my BP Domino I own with chunky acetate in matte midnight is just amazing with clever styling and very original acetate colour IMO😎

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are superb! I also would have expected a higher score... it's going to be interesting to see how good 7.6 is within the grand context. I really can't see any brand getting higher than a 9 but let's find out

    I don't own a pair, but having browsed a lot of their collection, I'd say they are definitely stylish - just not in the same way JF Rey or LA Eyeworks are. They do have some originality in the way they detail their classic designs, though, IMO. Take for example very basic styles like the Bogle - the faceting counts as original if you ask me.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you have given them a higher score for style and originality?

    • @marcusdesilva8405
      @marcusdesilva8405 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thespectaclefactory I think it would have given about the same for originality and a 7 for style - though I wouldn't necessarily say being not-very-original is a bad thing because some people might consider a classic design to be preferable to an updated one.

    • @marcusdesilva8405
      @marcusdesilva8405 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thespectaclefactory Just gave it a bit of extra thought, perhaps originality could also factor in this consideration:
      If the style/design itself isn't "new", is there any style/design element to it that differentiates it from other brands? e.g. faceting/beveling, undersizing/oversizing, unusual materials/colours, or any other little tweak that gives it that bit of uniqueness.

    In terms of craftsmanship, I would give a 10 to Matsuda, Cartier, Luca de stael , and Jacques Marie Mage.
    Masunaga and Akoni could be a 10 well.
