All i hear about from folic acid is that it is synthetic and needs to be converted in the body to make folate. I also hear that folic acid can block folate absorbtion. Drs seem to opt for folic acid anytime someone needs folate from my understanding also.
Hi Chris - do you normally get through all of the questions in these sessions or are there too many people/questions to finish them all? Also, what time are the sessions? I'm in Australia and not sure if I'd be able to access them live or if it would be during the night. Thanks!
Generally get through all of them. Sometimes if there are a lot (not often) I will go faster toward the end if we are too overtime. What time is best in Australia? Probably the closest I could do would be 8-10 PM eastern (NY) time. Would that work for an Australian?
@@chrismasterjohn thanks for getting back to me! Yeah that would be great, it's between 10 am and 12 pm here (AEST in Brisbane). Is that the time you normally do the qandas? What day do you typically do them? They're once a month right?
I’m going through the same needle feeling from my belly button to my feet and my hands. Over a week sober and went to er but our system is terrible and I’m left here to deal with this by myself
I am glad to have a name, Lhermitte phenomena, a descriptive term for demyelation for which I have an idiosyncratic habit of resting with my arms above my head [to relieve spinal pressure?] and use choline. Besides B12 deficiency tending to the folate trap, I also have NOS deficiency in the alternate methione pathway tending to a BH4 trap where BH2 is not converted, also requiring choline. Is this the basis of my demyelation/neuropathy? It seems to me that NO use could illicit a down regulation of NOS coupled with the recognized B12 disruption leading to the Lhermitte symptoms. I have also asked this question "When we have high B12 readings in blood because methylation is not utilizing it, will folate/better methylation utilize it without supplemental B12." in your Masterclass 101 on Interactions With B12 and Folate, July 16 2021. I hope my untrained terminology has explained what I mean.
Further investigation into methionine synthase [@ 8 min] has shown my 2 MTR snps @ < 10% of population leading to a build up of homocysteine atypical for my MTHFR A1289C snp., suggesting, with the biopterin disruption, a triple methylation whammy for Chronic Fatigue & demyelination.
I would have wondered if having low iron stores could have caused the folate trap (if there was one) as b12, folate and iron use each other to create red blood cells.
This patient likely has candida overgrowth and that is causing absorption issues. Candida means the 'host' is inclined to binge on carbs/sugars to feed the candida and in exchange receives NAD from the candida. This will need addressing.
It's nice to see Sherlock Masterjohn presented with an obscure case and try to see if he can figure out the pathways that lead to that condition.
Sherlock Masterjohn. 😂 love that.
And his salary is in Bitcoin 💵😎
How did he reach the assumption regarding the folate trap?

how you know
Yeah what leads to this
Nitrous not nitric oxide, right?
Think so yes
what are your favorite ways to increase NOS with someone who has the gene mutation in RED.... nitrates, argainine, BH4 anything else?
How much folate was needed in mg?
Not sure, check the case report. I looked at it a long time ago.
