    I had a 2003 Toledo with the 110bhp 1.9TDi engine--best car I've ever owned by a country mile, and I still regret getting rid of it in 2010. Especially since I checked it out on the government's MoT checking site and it passed its MoT in March 2019 with 181,000 miles on the clock!

    My ancient old brain would never buy a car with a 1.0 engine as it screams 'that's not enough CCs'. That being said, I have driven the 1.6 diesel DSG version and it was great to drive. I do approve of the looks too....

      I have a car with even less CCs (900cc turbo), and it's surprising how much low-end torque it has. Sure, you notice it a bit when climbing steep hills, but no more so than, say, 1.4 litre petrol cars I've had in the past.

    My dad ran a 1999 Mk2 2.3 V5 Toledo and it was night and day different to this one. The only similarity I can see is the half leather half alcantara seats.
    His was very much sold as the youthful performance variant of VAG, with firmer suspension and just a hint of Alfa 156 about it.

    Excellent video. Thanks for reviewing a car I might actually consider buying as a daily.
    Although some on the Skoda forums say that the 1.0 is not as good an engine as the 1.2 it replaced because it has a very narrow power band.
    I’d look for a 1.4 as I need one of my cars to be a manual, and it may as very be a comfy cruiser.

    Well this is a surprise. I own a petrol Seat Toledo and always considered it a pretty rare beast (Albeit mine is the previous gen 1.2tsi 110bhp engine) so never expected to see it reviewed on this channel. Loving that it has been though. There is a lot to like about this car. It does all the sensible stuff so well. I love all the kit (so much more than the equivalent Skoda Rapid for the money), the size and the comfort trading up from a MK2 Fabia but I agree it isn't sporty. Needs some throttlework to get the best of the handling. Plus I'm lucky enough to have a 98 Mini Cooper if I need some fun hooning round corners. The small cup holder in the front I have found to be perfect for one of those pots of chewing gum that are sold in petrol stations so that is something. Only real annoyance is having to take everything out of the glovebox to use the CD player (ironically usually all the CDs). Really enjoyed this review. Please keep up the good work. Would love to see a Hyundai Atoz make it on

    Rapid & Toledo were actually based on two platforms - the front half is Polo as stated, but the rear is from the Mexican built Jetta, hence the wider rear track and massive boot. Highly underrated cars. See if you can find one of the previous generation Toledos, the wedge booted version of the Altea.

    Rebadged Skoda Rapid. A stop-gap model built from low end VW parts. Practical and cheap to buy/run but far from perfect. Ran one for 150k miles over 5 years. Good on diesel but the DSG box was too hesistant at junctions and the rear doors would fill up with water when it rained. Save up and buy a Leon instead.

    Very nice little cars. I wanna thank VAg for their small premium cars. Also, with regards to what you said at 12:00, I agree. My 2010 Audi A3 is exactly the same with the stupid armrest which blocks the handbrake and you it leaves my arm too high to change gear without getting RSI so it stays folded up all the time. And it's not that adjustable, you can only make it go up and down. Furthermore, it has only 1 proper cup holder! The other cup holder is probably for espresso cups or 250ml drinks cans for energy drinks or small cans of coca cola!

    When I think seriously and honestly how much car I really need, this car would probably fit the bill.
    However, something is strange about it. It's not just the fact that small saloons are now considered "uncool" and totally out of Fashion. It's also things like the hidden CD player… it's as if they knew their clientele wasn't advanced enough for USB sticks but ashamed to show it.
    I'm not really a car fashion victim - I proudly drive a 2001 Saab 9-5 which took me to the first vid I saw of furiousdriving.

    Bit cold there Matt? I thought Seat stopped manufacturing the Toledo years ago. Can't help but feel a 1.0 engine is too small, but reviews are good. I am concerned with long term longevity of the engines, though. My driving style with those TSI engines is the 3rd gear one. 62mpg from that?! Makes me consider running around with an old PD diesel, that only gets around 65 on a run. Is that engine really enjoyable to live with and drive everyday, though in all conditions and on all types of road?

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had the car for two and a half years from now and I find it very enjoyable to drive on all types of roads. The steering is over light, as Matt says, but if you don't drive it too enthusiastically, it isn't really a problem. I actually got 74 mpg on a run once, although 60-62 mpg is more of the sort of figure that I frequently get, say on a long motorway run from Hampshire to our filming location the other day. They sold over 1,400 Toledo Xcellence petrols and 16 Toledo Xcellence diesels, especially as the diesel was only a five speed. I went from a 1.7 diesel Chevrolet Cruze to this, and it actually gets better fuel economy. That says it all really!

    Matt, the picture you showed for the second-generation Toledo wasn't a Toledo, it was a Leon...
    I think this is the first petrol one of these I've seen, they're all the diesels around here and they all seem to be rather clunky. Of course, most of them are taxis, so that may not help, though the fact that a neighbour of mine has recently acquired an ex-airport taxi 2010 Skoda Superb estate with 380,000 miles on it which still drives extremely tightly and very quietly rather suggests that build quality isn't the issue and the diesels just are a bit clunky and slightly unrefined...

Pre facelift cars are much more common as diesels, but I also sourced a petrol 1.2 for a client a couple of years ago, so they are clearly around.... Those Skoda diesels do last a long time with proper maintenance, don't they?

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting I'm guessing a lot depends on market conditions in certain areas. I haven't seen this age of Toledo in my area that wasn't a taxi, despite having a SEAT dealer with a very good reputation just up the road from me. They just seem to have been very overlooked here. It does rather seem that Skoda diesels are rather more reliable than there more expensive VW or Audi brethren, or their owners are more inclined to take the relevant care of them, though this Superb is remarkably untroubled by having gone to the moon and half-way back...

With the grey paint, dull exterior, dull interior and lacklustre performance and handling, Seat (or Skoda) seem to have set out to make the Toledo as boring as possible. If you have no interest in the aforementioned things, I guess the Toledo would fit the bill nicely. :)

      You can still get a Skoda Rapid though. Which is almost exactly the same!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyPaton, the Rapid was discontinued at the same time as the Toledo, sadly (they were built in the same factory). You can, however, buy its replacement brand new, which is the Scala. That is very nice indeed...

    • @JohnnyPaton
      @JohnnyPaton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lloyd Vehicle Consulting and you’d be totally correct of course. I drive a taxi (Octavia) and was wondering why there was a sudden influx of 69 plate Leons to our rank and no Rapids. Not seen any Scalas yet.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnnyPaton, yes I love the Octavia too! Probably the reason why you haven't seen so many is that the Octavia and Leon are due for replacement next year, and so the discounts on them are pretty healthy. The Scala is brand new, and the base model actually costs MORE than a base model Octavia at present, but the Octavia has a bit more space. I have reviewed a Leon ST on my channel, and they are brilliant, I must say, and available at good prices, like the Toledo was when I got mine! I did a walkaround on a Scala on my channel during their first week on sale at dealerships, they are rather nice, and a good drive.

      @JohnnyPaton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lloyd Vehicle Consulting I’m thinking of changing my Octavia (2015 plate, almost 150k on it) so I might pop up to the Skoda dealers and see what offers there are on a new Octy
