This game was incredible. That loop of dying and jumping back in right away and dying again immediately puts me into a trance or something. I forgot to blink or breathe. What a game

Oh man, this is the sort of deep dive content I love. I also loved this game, it was an actual experience instead of a game. I know I always say it for encouragement, but more than ever, amazing work on this one sir.

With hotline miami, even though i didnt pay much attention to the story because i couldnt understand what the hell was going on... but it also felt like not knowing whats going on felt like barely grasping the story added to the surreal experience that the story was pushing. Then the silence after all the violence really did create a sense of "damn, what have i just done"
One of my favourite games of all time - and you introduced me to it 🙌

Nothing makes me more irritated than people claiming that video games cause violence. I know Hotline Miami has been surrounded by those controversies but the fact is that people were violent before video games and at that point those critics pointed to comic books, but what about before that? While I've never really been super interested in playing Hotline Miami I am able to appreciate what it does well, and thanks to this I'm able to get to know a ton more about it and the decisions behind it. This is a great video and I can definitely tell you are passionate about the game.

I've been playing it today, and finally got the secret ending and combo achievements. Didn't start playing until recently, but I really like it!

Of course it does, it's always had a pretty timeless design package. And it really says something that all of the attempts to evolve the aesthetic, thematic, and design foundations that Hotline Miami set forward; (even truly excellent ones like OTXO) take up nowhere near the space in the conversation that Hotline does. I have to emphasize that this isn't because Hotline's contemporaries aren't fantastic and valuable, it's because of the sheer impact that Hotline Miami had and has.

One thing I like more about the prequel is the whole way it tries to drive home the violent messaging in the games. The second game blatently goes "you're doing bad stuff, here's why you're bad, you shouldnt be playing this" while this one just nudges you. "Are you sure this is who you are? Was this worth it?" And the way the levels end feels different because of it. While both games push the idea of violence being overall not a good thing, the structure and messaging in the first leaves the end of mission up to your own interpretation more. Many get regret or disgust out of seeing their actions, but for me? Its pride. Seeing what I was able to do and what I overcame, leaving nothing but bodies and blood from the mobsters is a great feeling for me, and the second doesnt really let you have it given how it frames everything the player does

Its a shame the next gen console versions of 1 and 2 are worse than the originals, idk how to explain it but everything feels off and wonky. levels that i easily get A scores on now end up being a B or C.
