    There's another reason, I think, for the aggressively lesbian trope. Part of Japan's particular flavor of homophobia is that girl on girl relationships are something done when you're young, as practice for when you find a guy you like. So the aggressive lesbian is acting, by society's standards, as childish and needing to grow up. In Seiko's case, as she had to practically raise all her younger siblings, it might be the one place she allows herself TO act childish, because everywhere else she has to be the adult.

      Yeah Japan believes lesbianism ends when they find the right man and thus they're more "accepting" of it while also not being that at all.

    Thanks for explaining why you like this series, because it's the reason I like it. Not everything has to be bloodless, descent-into-madness, allegorical A24 horror. Sometimes you just want splattery, uncomfortable fun, and that's Corpse Party.
    Also yes, Yoshiki definitely should have been the hero, not generic harem protagonist dude.
    Also also, I can't wait for the analysis of HIM. That creep. That weirdo. 😱

    Spoiler ahead:
    When it comes to the reason for the different dimensions, it has been kinda hinted at in the games. I have to preface, it has been a long time since my personal deep dive into the lore of the games.
    Since the Sachiko ever after charm requires the same group of kids to find each other and redo the the ritual the right way (As explained in Book of Shadows, Naho wrote on purpose the way to fail the ritual on her blog), the dimensions in my rememberence are a way for the kids to never find their way out. Keep them separate, and exhaust them mentally and physically to what Heavenly Host offers them.
    I do not remember exactly the reasons why the dimensions collaspe and let them regroup, but I think in part it was due to them solving the mystery clue by clue.
    The dimensions made sense in the games, and without explanation can be confusing. I remember the OVA with only 4 parts, did have a hard time explaining the intrigue of the school.
    Hope it help a bit clear up! It is a pretty important part of the lore, since so many events are related to them being separated :)
    Great video! I never went deep into the manga so its really cool to find these! Keep the amazing work!

      @v.v7288 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hello! I'm pretty late, But I think one of the reasons that the Dimensions within heavenly host collapsed was because of the 3 Ghost children being appeased. As in the game/story, it was explained that they were made to be the cogs that holds the dimensions together. Personally, I do like the idea of all of them splitting up forcefully.

    I loved the breakdown, I would say my only real note is that I'd actually say that Ayumi Shinozaki is probably the actual real main character - with Yoshiki right behind her as in the series she's the one (with Yoshiki often but sometimes alone) actually doing the plot progression and most crucial to the overall story.

      Enjoy! This actually began life as a much shorter script, but it ended up being something of an analysis of the horror genre in general. It was creeping up to over an hour at one point, as I went into some Japanese mythology and urban legends connected to it, but that's all been moved to part 2.

    It's pretty common in Japanese media to make a gay or lesbian character overly aggressive and immature. I think it's a combination of fanservice while simultaneously making a subtle jab at lgbtq people. It's no small surprise that these characters don't tend to win out in the end, often losing in favor of a heterosexual partner. It would be cool to see that trope flipped in a mainstream Manga.

    • @FireflyOnyx
      @FireflyOnyx หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean... Their 100% canon in the games with confession scenes, and Naomi and Satoshi never end up together. LGBTQ representation in this series isn't bad, though it can be a little misguided by stereotypes. At least it's one of those series where the characters can be openly LGBTQ instead of being only implied at best.

  • @cheerfulsatanist
    @cheerfulsatanist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    First the single scariest thing in this entire franchise, is the fact that there is a ritual these kids perform...a ritual which curse the participants to be forced to see the people they went to highschool with forever....just...thats fucking sadistic man.
    To me the different iterations or dimensions of the school kind of served as means to separate and isolate the kids without having to immediately jump on the trope of " We should split up for a better chance at finding a wy out of here / finding our friends / finding clues / escaping the killer". They do still use the "hey gang, lets split up!" cliche, but its at least somewhat less egregious.
    I cant speak to Japan, but in the states all 4 of my kids various schools have always structured classes like this. Having the youngest kids on the lower floors is a safety measure first and foremost. They want the littler ones to have the shortest clearest exit in say a fire (or any other types of life threatening emergencies you might have in American schools, cant imagine what those might be.) You also dont typically want to put the little kids up top because theyre more likely to get lost/have tripping and falling accidents.
    AWesome start though! Have you ever considered a deep dive covering "/Drifting Classroom"? I know you've mentioned it briefly in other vids already. Cuz as it stands the only long form video on the platform right now is a dude summarizing each page of the book, without ever showing panels...its just watching him read it and kind of summarizing it...its very...weird, even for a manga channel.

    • @frightranker
      @frightranker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Drifting Classroom...hmm. Let's just say - it's interesting that you should mention that one. I don't know...something about the title just screams 'November' for some reason :).
      The ritual isn't that out of place in Japan - there are tons of weird little pseudo-occult things like that (you should see kids before entrance exams man).

    The reason the hyper aggressive lesbian or gay guy exscest in anami and monga is not because of Manga being supversive. It mainly does to the fact most straight people create gay characters for there straight readers with out contest or understand. This results in a sexual pandering character
