    I was raised by my grandparents in the 60's. The Christmas of 67, all I wanted was a " Lost in Space" robot that year. My grandparents never watched the show so they had Santa get me a "Space Robot". Its was just like these robots but its chest would open after a few steps and shoot twin guns while its upper torso rotated 360 degrees. 3 kids up the street each got a Lost in Space Robot. I played with theirs and realized my robot did more. My 63rd birthday my daughter gave me a Lost in Space Robot. But this modern one is more to scale, more lights and has several sayings. How cool is that.

      Very cool. What a great Daughter you have. I had to save up my paper rout money to buy my Lost in space robot back in the 1960's. And yes it had few functions. So I gutted it and built in my own functions. I made it a wired remote control that I could steer added spinning top brain as well.

      So many robots, so hard for me to pick one favorite. I suppose the 1950's Mechanized robot "Robby" has the most functions and great look for me.

    I have the first robot but in a black enamel color. I got him when I was 7 n 1973... I wish I could get him fixed so the screen functioned again. The only thing missing is the red antenna that rotates when the screen scrolls.

      @@Robothut hey thanks for the reply, I just found a reproduction part online. Are you still accepting robots for repair? Do you give quotes for repair? based on photos?

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aephraums I try not to do very many repairs in the winter as its just so cold out in the shop that is not any fun. Also I never give quotes on repair work unless I have had a chance to see the toy in person. Normally my services are not good for most collectors , by the time you double box a toy for safe shipping the box is large so the shipping is high. Once you pay for shipping in both directions then pay for the repair work and any parts that might be needed and factor in the chance that the toy may get damaged in shipping or lost, it normally is not a good deal for the collector. So yes I do toy repair, I make next to nothing for my time but in the end it is very expencive for the collector.

    I had a blue version of the TV space robot. I never liked the face inside, thinking it was an unhappy cyborg instead of a friendly robot. When I was a little older, I took it apart to see how the projector worked. Of course I didn't have the skill to put it back together again, so into the trash he went. The Martian Attack robot looks familiar. If I had one, he didn't last very long. The foot linkage was delicate on all of those robots. Knock one off a chair or drop it on the floor and those feet would break.

    Do.eber have to do some touch up painting and if so what type of paint

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try not to get into touch painting. A toy that has been repainted has a lower value, I like the fact that a toy shows its age and that it has been played with. Now if enough of the paint is missing then I can see a repaint being a OK thing to do but again I leave that to others. I used to repaint robots, mostly custom "kit bash" bots made from repro robot parts but the painting was always the least favorite part of the job so I stopped.

    Just wondering if you repair toy robot as a business or if you only do your own. I Repair many robots that I buy that are not working and manage to get them going again but, I have a couple that are too precious and I am afraid to take the apart. By the way..I LOVE your presentations!

      Thank you, glad you like the videos. In the past I used to do toy repair for most of the big toy dealers around the world. But these days not so much. It is so expensive to ship a properly double boxed toy insured both ways and then the repair on top of that. So it is just not worth doing. I still do repairs for old friends like Ozzies robot "youtube channel.

    • @Robothut

    What is a common problem.you see come into the Shop

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A common problem with vintage battery operated toys is the motor not running do the years that it has sat unused. The grease on the motor brushes tends to harden up and so they do not make electrical contact until you can rotate the motor shaft with power applied. As far as broken things I would say broken battery box's and or battery contacts that are corroded because batteries were left in the toy. All brands of batteries will and do leak over time.

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they were better built back then with metal gears, starting in the 1960's they started using more and more plastic gears and they all crack over time even if you do not play with them.

    Working on electric robot. Battery's are in correctly mores code works, eyes light up, motor has been tested works good but motor will not go on when switch is turned on. I am Puzzled. Any suggestions would be grateful.

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I recall the latch that holds the battery metal door shut is a contact point, so make sure where the sliding latch contacts the battery door is clean and a good connection. Now since the lights and buzzer work I would guess that maybe that battery door connection is not too bad, so next follow the metal rails up to the forward reverse switch for the motor, The problem will be found there, probably a metal to metal contact that is not good and needs to be cleaned.

    • @Robothut

      It comes down to cost, will it be worth it. To safely ship a toy to me "double boxed" then the cost to send it back to you. It can be very expensive. Then there is the unknown, what will it cost to repair.
      Now you could try and get it going on your own by watching many of my videos of how to get inside the toy if need be. But you can also try and open the gun doors, tilt the guns out and reach in with a small flat screwdriver to rotate one of the motor gears with the switch turned ON. Things might just start working again. Make sure your batteries are good and the battery contacts are clean.
