Another excellent instructional video, thank you. I maybe digress a little here .... but do you advise treating the internal surfaces of the main body, and what product do you use, before completing the sealing up of the finished item??
I ordered a violin kit. A cheap one. Anywaaay... now I fear cutting the grove for the neck placement! Ha ha so far I’ve just mainly done sanding on the body, which is already assembled. It has no saddle... and I want to add one... and that also scares me. Ha ha I do a lot of just looking at the parts and being afraid of messing it up. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ I’m not sure at this point of my comment why I’m telling you this. Also... you are waaaay too far away for me to bring it over to your place for help. 😝 I’m in California! Thank you again for your fine videos!
Hello Aaron. Thank you so much for your kind words! You can see the video about a varnish review here: th-cam.com/video/EGF5_PlQDIE/w-d-xo.html More about varnish will come later in the series.
Hi.. thanks for your great video about violin making, im on the way to make an own violin, im visiting Amersfort alot of times, i will visit you and like to meet you next time when im in Amersfort, i hope to be ok for you. thanks. BR Aras
Hello Aras. Thank you so much for your kind words. At the moment I avoid meetings, but as soon as the situation goes back to normal we could definitely make an appointment. We keep in touch.
@@maestrokimon Hello maestro, thanks for you answer. sure not in this time..i mean when i visit Amersfort next time maybe next year and i hope to the situation willbe back to normal...you do the best and give others a good informaton... I have another question about your study in Cremona...how long you studied there.. ihave a plan to go there and studie violin making. im self a violinst and like to make own violin... BR Aras
When I was studying there, it was 5 years with the possibility to skip the first or second year if you were good enough and wanted. I know a lot has changed in the 15 years since I left so you would have to inform. Have a look to their website or send theme an e-mail.
Thank you, the information is very useful. However I have a question about the measurements for the peg holes. When you say 17mm from the end of the finger board, is that from where the finger board ends, or from where the nut will end?? (presuming we know where that would be). I ask because I'm learning how to do bushing and it's very difficult to find information on how you calculate the position of the new holes so as to be acurate (and all peg boxes are not the same size) Thank you :)
Andy, I indeed ment the end of the fingerboard, not the nut. Check also my video where I did this repair to a cello. In the case you are drilling new holes in and old instrument you won't be able to use these measurements exactly but have to adjust according to the size of the peg-box and the position of the old pegs. You don't want to dril in the center of the old ones.
The left and right side distribute the tension evenly. I think that if you leave one, the scroll will bent on the long term. Feel free to send me your designs by e-mail (confidential!!!) so we can discuss about it.
You have to find sandpaper suitable for wood. And 1500 grid is very fine, you will need 240 320 & 400 as well. The red stain is probably because it isn't mentioned to be use on wood.
@@maestrokimon thankyou. can you recomend any brand? iknow the sandpaper can be a hit or miss in quality. the paper i get is from my furniture making school i attend. but i think its just a really low grade.

@@maestrokimon its a private school ? and how much should man pay if want to study there?
It is a public school. When I was studying we hade to pay something like €50,- per year, but I don't know how it is now.
Where do you order your timber from?, great vid!!
You can buy wood at www.riwoods.com It's an Italian company specialized in wood for musical instruments with experience in sending all over the world.
You should think about releasing a second version of your videos without narration (ASMR). They will be a big hit!
Maybe I can do something...
Would it have been possible to mark and drill the peg holes with the template before carving the scroll?
Yes that is also possible!

a self made what? (for to sand out the peg box)
I think I say "self made file". if it isn't please send me the timecode so I can have a better look.
