  • After a big presentation of the Tesla Battery Swap in 2013, Elon Musk chose to shelve the 90 seconds process as being too expensive to implement. However, many EV startups do not share the conviction of the American visionary and already have some working prototypes. In this video, we will show you those electric cars that support lightning-fast swaps of the energy modules, plus will demonstrate universal stations with the cutting edge battery exchange solutions.
More electric car content in our playlist: • Best electric vehicles...
This video presentation features such models:
    ACM City One
The German startup Adaptive City Mobility targets the fleet and shared mobility sectors with their first electric vehicle. The City One is a rather affordable compact car that weighs just 2100 pounds and accommodates 5 people.
    Silence S04
The 4th project by the Spanish startup Silence differentiates itself from all of the previous builds by being a 4-wheeler. Classified as a quadricycle, it has compact dimensions, but still accommodates 2 people, while leaving almost 11 cubic feet of space for their luggage.
    Ample
If you already own an electric vehicle and are interested in battery swapping technology as a way to decrease charging times, time to check out this project by Ample. Founded in 2014, the San Francisco startup already has a couple of working swapping stations across California, but now, it is promising to bring easy, time effective and accessible battery swapping to more EV owners.
    Nio Power Swap 2.0
China’s most innovative EV manufacturer has finally begun the European takeover starting with Norway. For now, the ES8 7-seater SUV will be the sole buying option, but by 2023, Nio promises to expand to 5 more EU countries and also bring the flagship electric sedan ET7.
    Fiat Centoventi
The Chentoventi concept car from the Italian manufacturer predicts the future of big cities, with vast zero-emission zones and thousands of A-segment e-cars on the roads. The hatchback gets a chunky Panda-inspired exterior, offers extensive customization options, and debuts Fiat’s modular battery system that one day might actually make it to production.
    Squad Mobility
The Netherlands-based start-up has rolled out its very first EV warrior, intended to fight for sustainable urban mobility. With the starting price of under 6 thousand euros, the 2-person Squad Mobility EV is indeed affordable, while its standard 250-watt solar panel on the roof makes the model less dependent on the charging infrastructure, refueling nearly 12 miles of range every day.
    XEV Global Yoyo
After 3 years in development, the mini city car by the Italian XEV Global is ready for production. The model is built on a steel frame, while most of its body and interior parts are manufactured via 3D printing. The 2-seater rides on 14 or 15inch wheels, has modern LED headlights, and is homologated under EU’s WVTA standards. The list of cabin equipment includes air conditioning, 10inch infotainment and even a panoramic roof.
    Lotus ER-9 Le Mans
Have no doubts, the future of endurance racing is electric. Lotus envisions the vehicle suitable to compete at the 2030 season of 24 Hours of Le mans in the form of the E-R9 racer.
Do you believe in the battery swapping technology or should we listen to Elon and focus on the fast charging instead? We would be glad to hear your thoughts.

Swapping battery packs is a very common feature that is available on electric motorcycles, is it a smart idea to have these on cars though? Share your thoughts below!

Making the EV car batteries easily replaceable is by far the best way to go. And not making them easily replaceable will bite every owner of a second-hand Tesla (the original ones will just buy new models) in the ass when the batteries are due for replacement. Btw, calling Elon Musk “a visionary” is a bit of a stretch. The guy did not found Tesla but just bought into it after the business was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning.

I like the battery swap idea as I change via solar so if I went down swap able batteries I could use them for home power also, great way to power life 😊

Elon Musk and other car manufacturers should realise that (around?) a third of people don't have access to charge their cars at home because we live in flats or terraced houses or busy inner cities. And no we don't want to go to Charging Stations or Battery Swop Garages every day.
So the obvious solution is easy-to-swop Removable Batteries. They are the only EVs I consider buying.

The issue with most modern electric cars is the cost of getting to a qualified service center and having them replace the battery. The obvious benefits of a swappable battery is inexpensive do it yourself swapping/replacement. Taking the battery inside during extreme cold weather. I want a car that has a battery that is no more difficult to replace and charge then an electric bike.

1:55 ACM City One is by far my favorite, 4-door, 200+ miles range, and just about highway speeds at 68mph all for $12k seems like the best money for spec value.

Being able to swap out batteries when capacity reduces and/or upgrade when improved versions become available should improve residual values.

Most of these will never touch USA and I think Elon is right on this and more available charging station across USA at around every 200-400 mile range and have them at many stores.

For me this is the future of EVs. Charging takes too long and users get hit with large bills when batteries go wrong or wear out. Governments need to be supporting this and looking to get swapping stations in all major cities. Stations should support scooters as well as lightweight 3/4 wheelers and ideally offer a small range of batteries by different manufacturers. Rental businesses will also be key in getting new users familiar with vehicles, particularly while only small types are supported.

Here in the USA swap stations are D.O.A. except in small niche markets. Where swappable batteries make the most sense is in small commuter class personal EV's like ebikes, scooters, and mopeds. Swappable batteries have to pass the "can I carry this up multiple flights of stairs to my appartment" test. Otherwise you would just charge at your own home.

I notice that nobody wants to talk about EV's in snow. I'm lost as to why all EV's do not have AWD with in-wheel motors like the Aptera and Nobe do. Equally weird is why so few come with solar panels as standard.

    • @tonyvu2011
      @tonyvu2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Solar panel requires an inverter which in turn requires extra space and would also add extra weight, not worth it for 20 mins extra driving from solar charging on sunny day.

Looking at the Citroën ami you tube videos from all over Europe there are people trailing leads from a second floor balcony and down walkways because it has not got fast changing or battery swap technology the best you can do is use a battery pack with a inverter built in at the side of the road because they never thought of appartment
dwellers now supermarkets and drive through outlets are charging people for spending more than the allowed time parked and it takes up to 4hours for a full charge it only does 28mph max so only usefull for inner-city

  • @EvendimataE
    @EvendimataE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

removable batteries is a brilliant idea......if you know you will only be driving 5 miles a day, why would you want to spend energy on carrying the weight of the battery you dont need

  • @lunatik9696

Battery swap is probably the best solution until we can get faster charging.
It works for large commercial mowers and small power tools.
I have Ego and Greeworks products along with Dewalt and Craftsman battery tools.
Swappable batteries are the best solution.

Silence is hardly what I would class as a 'start-up', they've been making their range of scooters for about 10 years, and the S04 shares the same removable packs as these! They will be going on sale in the UK soon - I already have an S01 scooter!

    • @Datacube
