I met him at the Scrap Bar in NYC .He liked me and walked up with his body guard to talk.We talked about plants and cats...He wanted to meet me for a date but I was there with a very jealous date that kept glaring at us so I couldn't.....He died two weeks later. The New York Dolls were so cool and didn't pretend to be 'cutting edge' etc. The RRHOF is a corporate insider abomination and real rock and doesn't need a museum or to be put up like that. He knew full well that even in his day there were people far more interested in writing about music than being a musician, Lester Bangs, Robert Christgau, Greil Marcus, then the UK 80s school of rock writers, Simon Reynolds, David Stubbs, Julie Burchill loads more. Maybe the only writers that hung around him were parasites, he seemed to attract a lot of groupies and yes men, genuine rock writers would have been bored with him by the mid-70s, he didn't have much to offer a writer, same old story of failure, wasted talent and drug dependence? Not exactly hot news. Johnny was a great guitarist and had a great rock n roll persona but he had an inflated ego to match.

To the people disputing the date, it WAS 1990. Johnny was in Dublin for a week in April 1990 during which he played a gig at the New Inn on Baggot St. Photos taken backstage by BP Fallon can be easily found online, if you compare them to how he looks here they're identical. I was on Nighthawks as an extra in 1990 and 1991. Shay was brilliant, friendly to everyone both times. As a musician and songwriter with a huge knowledge of music, he was bound to get a good interview out of Johnny and he did.

Dee Dee was troubled in his own way just like Johnny, but they were fucking genius songwriters. Dee Dee had a lot of pent up anger about Chinese Rocks cos Dee Dee wrote it - but the Heartbreakers stole it in Dee Dee’s mind. To Thunders credit Dee Dee is credited with that song in the first verse EVERY time they play it. Also Stiv and Dee Dee are both frontmen, personality and talent wise, as well. So those 3 trying to create a band is not just too many cooks but too many ‘primadonna’ head chefs in the kitchen!

@gorehoundgirl he's full of shit about that Dee Dee Ramone Story. That or Dee Dee is. One Junkies word over another and I love them both but knowing the drug heroin as intimately as I unfortunately do, they probably both think they're telling the truth. Dee says he only agreed to go under the condition that Johnny wouldn't be there and he walks in and there sits Johnny.Dee Dee also says it was over a stolen jacket that J.T. Always wanted and finally took it.

LOL. To be fair, Dee Dee found his favorite jacket stolen away inside Johnny's suitcase in Paris. John had been stealing shit to buy dope and that's why Dee Dee poured bleach on his clothes and smashed Johnny's guitar... It's still really sad that guitar was destroyed though :'(
