Dee Dee was troubled in his own way just like Johnny, but they were fucking genius songwriters. Dee Dee had a lot of pent up anger about Chinese Rocks cos Dee Dee wrote it - but the Heartbreakers stole it in Dee Dee’s mind. To Thunders credit Dee Dee is credited with that song in the first verse EVERY time they play it. Also Stiv and Dee Dee are both frontmen, personality and talent wise, as well. So those 3 trying to create a band is not just too many cooks but too many ‘primadonna’ head chefs in the kitchen!

Sup, I am a random guy who grew up mostly on Hip Hop and Latino music. I try to branch out though and I recently discovered new york dolls, and Johnny Thunders. His song "Short Lives" is fucking great. Just commenting on how much I love all types of music. Rock N' Roll is the shit. My playlists nowadays tend to be all over the place genre wise, but my rule is if it slaps, it fuckin' slaps.

LOL. To be fair, Dee Dee found his favorite jacket stolen away inside Johnny's suitcase in Paris. John had been stealing shit to buy dope and that's why Dee Dee poured bleach on his clothes and smashed Johnny's guitar... It's still really sad that guitar was destroyed though :'(

Intelligent extremely funny, great sense of humour. And what a musician first off. He gave that les paul junior one hell of a thrashing. Often imitated never duplicated. The real rock'n'roll icon. Maybe it was his time to go, maybe not. But he left a decent little catalogue of music, from lamf to his live bootleg and all inbetween. He had style, attitude and the tunes. Hope there's a heaven and he there chilling with Jerry, sylvain Waldo Billy R billy M Arthur kane sid vicious and many more. Elvis, john lennon, keith moon, chuck berry

He’s so lucid in this interview; doesn’t seem to slurring his words. He might not be a technically great musician but when he played his guitar he made it talk and you could feel it. His sound is instantly recognizable and even if you had a les Paul junior on a dimed twin reverb it was hard to duplicate that sound.

To the people disputing the date, it WAS 1990. Johnny was in Dublin for a week in April 1990 during which he played a gig at the New Inn on Baggot St. Photos taken backstage by BP Fallon can be easily found online, if you compare them to how he looks here they're identical. I was on Nighthawks as an extra in 1990 and 1991. Shay was brilliant, friendly to everyone both times. As a musician and songwriter with a huge knowledge of music, he was bound to get a good interview out of Johnny and he did.

@@vincentbyrne2394 you're right, my mistake. Even back then I used to get the names and locations of all those pubs mixed up, in particular The Attic and The Earl Grattan. It was bad enough if you were going to them but when my band were playing at any of them we ran the risk of turning up at the wrong place.
