HEY NON BEER GEEKS! What's you favourite bottle opener you've ever had? Is there a rusty old one on your keychain, or like Brad do you treasure and care for them? If you need a new one, links are in the description!
That would be the swiss army knife. The design has a certain MacGyveresque 80s retro chic, the thing is reliable and indestructable and in a pinch it serves as a...well...swiss army knife :D
Although I have to admit, these forged openers look pretty awesome...
There is no competition to the Hicks bottle openers. They are second to none in every way.

Just like a standard, well made waiter's friend. Good for beer caps and wine corks. Practical. Cheap.
Also have a large, brass toucan which opens bottle caps with its large beak. More for comedy value but does the job.
I'm surpriced you didn't mention your "Westmark Bottle Opener and Sealer"
I really love mine and also use it when I crack a bigger bottle and wanna keep the rest sealed & cool in the fridge.
@@MichaelAndersen_DK we love that bottle opener but it's not a beautiful design - just a very, very practical one!
I thought I was the only one that got excited over bottle openers. Glad I'm not alone lol
When Brad mentioned he could imagine that bottle opener stuck to the side of a yacht it reminded me that an update on his HMS Unsinkable is overdue. More seriously, a much needed video and very well executed: the fact that you two have different types of energy and storytelling skills makes the channel even more varied and interesting.
Thanks so much!
Amazing stuff! I love watching Brad geek out over all this stuff.
Great vid! Need to show this to the family in case they need any stocking filler ideas for dad!
I love this channel, crazy beer passions and collections.
i didnt know what to expect from this ep. but the passion and explanations made this super interesting. Now I want a special bottle opener lol
Really great to see The Brad take center stage! Leverage your strengths I say. Idea for a future Brad feature: best can art or can art trends.
Lovely to see a video with design in mind, Brad :) The last one's the winner for me!
Nice! I love how you highlight the beauty and functionality of bottle openers. I have been using a bottle opener from Mumm Products for the past 2 years, and it's been really helpful in cracking open cold ones with ease.
Everyone should try the Westmark ‘Hermetus’ bottle opener. It has a ingenious bottle sealer built in … which to be fair, doesn’t get much use as the beer is drunk too quickly!!
We have plugged it many times! An amazing product.
Certified bottle opener judge!
I watch every video you guys create and I love the channel but I couldn't make it through this one. Bottle opener content is a niche market.
Fair enough! Back to niche beer geeking next week we promise!

A far more fascinating video than I ever thought possible on the subject of bottle openers. I've been thinking about bottle openers wrong my whole life. Thanks for the enlightening video Brad.
As a Georgian, listening to Brad struggle with Decatur was hilarious. 😂
Great vid Brad!
I have the wall mounted one attached to my home made keezer, plus I keep a Swiss army knife and a separate bottle opener on my keys.
Just ordered the best bottle opener ever...... 😁
This is superb content, the best thing about it being the genuine interest and passion shown by Brad - great work!
Love Brad's enthusiasm for design and function. 👍 Also, great intentional, or unintentional, "upcycling" pun on the Michael Marriott 700C.
Love the opener at 14:51!🤩
So beautiful, right? And hey, you guys have a TH-cam channel?! Amazing - subbed.
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Indeed! And yes, just getting going and expecting to produce a lot of regular content soon. :).
@@treehousebrewco Awesome! If you ever want to collab, let us know!
Wow wow wow, that alex pole stuff 😍😍
Absolutely loved this video - thanks, Brad! I love that your passion really shines through.
Great low brau one take episode Brad. I have had a super minimal Stelton designed in the 70s which is a stainless steel tube with a cap sized notch cut into it. Used it for over 15 years and it looks just as good as the day it was given to me. Has opened 1000s of bottles. Love well designed products that last more than a lifetime and just work.
My favourite is from Munton's (the maltsters). Bottle opener one end and USB stick the other. I won it in a homebrew competition and it's regularly handed round at our EKAB (East Kent Amateur Brewers) meetings! Lives on my key ring - obvs.
Yeah, first thought ‘what?’ But of course with Brads passion for design it makes it interesting.
Exactly, right!
Best bottle opener I’ve ever had came from a “beer tin” from M&S that had crisps, pork scratchings and a couple of bottles of Jaipur. Pops a lid off clean as anything. The keyring one I bought at Heineken is still going strong after 12 years of handy use too.
YESSSSS Low Brau is back again
amazing that you managed to recreate the brewdio whilst in the USA brad!
love brad content
I've always used a standard 'bar blade' type bottle opener, cheap, stainless, simple and I've had it for 10+ years. As a cheapskate and attempted minimalist, this suits me well.
My absolute favorite bottle opener has an unfortunate name “the gropener”, or grab opener. It’s a one-handed bottle opener that keeps the cap intact.
My favourite bottle opener is one from Threshers (RIP) from over 20 years ago. It looks knackered, but it still feels totally solid and cracks open a beer perfectly.
Late getting to view this one. Loved the last hand made iron one but the magnetic one that keeps the bottle top is a great idea. The number of times I’ve had to pick up tops off the floor (who hasn’t?). Recycled bike wheel is also one I’d be pleased to have as a talking point hanging on the bar.
My go to is definitely my Hicks Bottle Opener. Given the uplift in waxed bottles, the titanium teeth on it make it a breeze to get into them. Certainly not the easiest to get (they're as hyped as any popular brewery), but I've found them a treat.
Still have my Heineken opener I use from time to time as well, but don't tell anyone that 😂
I've got one of those great bottle openers which is shaped like a parrot but also has a corkscrew and small blade for cutting off wrappers. Useful for when you also get the odd cork on a beer bottle.
Hooray! I've waited months for a new episode 😄
Brad is a poet
Thanks Brad, this is great! I have a turtle that you put over a glass and use to make layered drinks, that opens a bottle with it's mouth. Love a well-designed, interesting opener :)
Can you imagine if Brad had a spin-off channel?
I bought a cast iron mermaid bottle opener from an antique store. It's ornate and huge and no clue how old it is but it's beautiful unfortunately the pry part of it chipped at some point. It'll still open a bottle if you're patient enough lol she's still beautiful to look at
I have a lot of bottle opener that I love. The one I gave to the boys of the old pub I used to go to. The one they sold me. The bottle opener ring that I used in those days, which was actually too small, and now just hangs on a chain on my neck. The Doctor Who one that my photographer printed for me.
I love the Anchor Steam one, I should get one for travel. I do have to say that my personal favourite bottle opener is the BBbarfly, just because it's both a skill toy and a bottle opener.
Yuengling is the oldest craft brewery in the US started in 1829 with nearly continuous operation since, is still independently owned, and is, by far, the largest craft brewery in the US by sales volume. They have an amazing tour that goes down into the hand dug lager caves and ends with free drinks at their now defunct creamery that made ice cream during prohibition when they were only allowed to make "medicinal use" beer.
Anchor Steam was founded in 1896 and is now even owned by Sapporo of Japan since 2017.
Indeed! But Brad was alluding to breweries making modern styles of beer. Yeungling lager is a classic, and not sure they have done anything more modern other than the Herschey's collab?
@@TheCraftBeerChannel They make a handful of beers that are mostly only available in PA like fruited IPAs and Marzen, etc. They certainly don’t chase any hype though which I guess they don’t need to bother when they’ve been in business so long.
My favorite bottle opener is a surplus Uzi sub-machine gun magazine.
Crikey
I had an anodized aluminum "gecko" (lizard) bottle opener that I had on my keychain for so long that it is almost all bare metal now.
Hi,
I believe you missed that your Anchor Steam opener is the silhouette of a whale.....
Anchor Steam,...whale fleet ships...San Francisco.....
I truly appreciate the content of your channel/your mates as well.
Bravo
My favorite bottle opener I had was one shaped like a leather brogue shoe. Got it when I bought a pair of shoes for some strange reason (they weren't brogues).
Always got a raised eyebrow when I handed it to someone.
I have a wood with a metal bolt version similar to the bike wheel one from the LaTrappe brewery that I love. I also have a red cheap lobster one on my keychain from a trip to Maine which I love.
I have a couple of favorites, but my go-to is a simple keychain bottle opener that I always carry. I had to switch from my London pride to a Barbar for wear and tear reasons 😅
Interesting collection there I am never without my bottle opener it's a Jaipur keyring given to me at the GBBF by one of the brewers
Love the necklace medallion cap lifter but the best is stll the Swiss Army Knife with the cap lifter that is also a screw driver and wire stripper and you get all the other stuff like a blade in the configuration. $20 for a Spartan or Tinker and a preowned one can be had on Ebay for less than $10 and they are lifetime warranty guaranteed
Brilliant.
Who’s drinking all those beers😋🍻👍🏻
Jonny was. Camera got a bit shaky towards the end.
Finally! I find that 'pull-up' bottle openers with a hook design, like the Floyd one, rarely function as intended. German opener all the way! P.S: Where was the 'This was Lowbräu, I have been Brad'. That was a great catchphrase...
Oh no we forgot about that line! Next time we'll reintroduce it.
I use whatever is around. When im out and about I use a lighter or my suisse army knife. At home I have a Wera tool brand opener in the kitchen, but I use whatever i can grab.
Who drank all that beer?
My Favorit is the 700C and I will attempt to make that one myself.
Interesting collection... I know you're a huge fan of the BevKey, as am I... is that TOO utilitarian and not beautiful enough to include? Do you still use your (Hooters??) one, or have you moved on?
Forged steel, you cannot forge cast iron. I make similar ones, fun to make.
Thanks for the clarification!
I can open beer bottles with my TEETH ‼️ I get invited to all the parties as I'm interesting 🤣 and I'm completely mobile. Most women find me fascinating and blokes admire me from afar 🤔. Happy to feature on your 🍻🍺🍻 prog. Otherwise fuck it, buy some cans. I wouldn't fit into the yellow box 🤣🤣🤣
We're gonna need a bigger box.
I got the 3rd one and burned a logo in the handle.
I've been to Rhodes recently so part of me was expecting you to crack out one of those bottle openers where the handle is a large male reproductive organ carved out of wood 😂
Were you drinking those hoffmeisters between openers?
Haha only a few. Cracked 8 in total including reshoots!
Um, aktchually the umlaut makes it Braeu.
We address this (end up ignoring it) in the first Low Brau episode!
