My 92 year-old mom is diagnosed with "mixed dementia" of Alzheimer's and Vascular. However I suspect Lewy Body must be added to this mix, and given the lead role. Her very first symptom of ANY kind of dementia were visual hallucinations of children, animals and benign adult strangers. Her second symptom was of dogs running and playing through the house and backyard. Before these two events, there was nothing dementia about her - no memory impairment, no executive function impairment, no decline in reading or math, no apapthy, anxiety or depression. Then she suddenly had a major stroke which immediately brought those symptoms into the mix, calling for a diagnosis of Vascular (because of the stroke) and Alzheimer's (immediate onset caused by the violence of the stroke. However, her "typical" dementia symptoms were far eclipsed by hallucinations and delusions. 90% of her new self was hallucinations and delusions, with only bits of memory impairment and other cognitive issues. Is Lewy Body not clearly a major part, if not THEE major part of her mixed dementia? Why am I asking? Why do I think it's important to know? Because new research shows different meds working differently on different dementias.
Does anyone have any information more based on people with LB that have extremely HORRIFIC hallucinations and delusions. EG my Mom sees monsters and thinks my father is plotting with them to have her killed, she sees them sending other people down a "slide" in the yard and chopping them up, burning them, then burying them in holes. She truly believes on a daily basis it is about to happen to her. She's in constant terror. The neurologist has her on meds that so far have not helped, it has been over 6 straight months of this. She calls me multiple times a day crying to say her last goodbyes. It's intolerable to think of her in this much fear. She hears people in the house talking about the plans to kill her through "wires: she says. She doesn't believe she has dementia, she think it's all a plot to kill her. I don't know what to do anymore. I can't convince her it's not true. Just listening and trying to comfort results in less anger but doesn't help.
My mom just has been diagnosed LBD. She has hallucination too, but not that scary, only sees some people and animals. Have you tried CBD oil? Or something else helps?
@@mauschengg816 my dad suffered with LBD with seeing little kids and trains coming through the house. Dealing with him, I had to talk to him with a calm voice and Yes I started using CBD oil, it helped with his sleep, and we were able to rub his body with it. As time went on, I had to increase his morphine until his passing. But keeping them safe and calm will help.
i know this has been forever, but wondering if anything was ever found to help your mom. This sounds so horrible, not just for her, but for you too. I'm so sorry.
Unfortunately, my Mother passed in 2022 and it was all downhill after this post. I wish I had something positive to say. I hope someday this illness has some sort of cure or at least knowledge of what to do to prevent it. Thank you for your kind words.@@IrishGypsy304
