For people misunderstanding thinking I’m somehow comparing this to be better than hi3 final lesson, not what I’m doing. That’s apples to oranges and missing the entire emotional message behind final lesson which is why myself and so many others mentioned it here. It is in the name, the Final Lesson and legacy of a key important figure to the protagonist (Jing Yuan in this case), while showcasing said mentors legacy. If that’s not something that deserves to be called a mentors final lesson just because it’s not a character you are that connected to due to lack of screen time than feel free to move on. Just because a stranger that leaves a legacy “dies” (copium she’s alive and well and they reunite plz Ty), whether it be easier or harder, doesn’t mean we get to say “oh boo hoo this person had it worst” That’s insensitive. Entire point being made was how beautiful this showcased ,the legacy a good mentor figure leaves for their students, and then said students student. It’s not a coincidence there are parallels with Yanqing saying they want to be a legend in similar fashion to how Kiana wanted to be the best Valkyrie. It’s a thematic callback, a nudge to the classic. Not everything needs to be a competition, appreciate the beauty things have to offer vs making it a game of “who did it better”. Not sure why this has to even be said when the motto of HI3 is fight for all that’s beautiful in the world.

While i respect Unreal Dreamer and accepts he has his own opinions, on this case i will have to say i dont see the parallels he is drawing because for me, they arent there. Thats not to diminish anything shown and told in the animation, but rather to differentiate it from final lesson and giving it its own rightful identity.

Sader is subjective, however i think something thats built up emotionally would generally be concidered the more sad one, this has no real build up, Final Lesson was built up with alot of story before for the player to actually become attached.

I love the difference in their fighting styles as well -- Jing Yuan's being more grounded, slower, but more powerful, and Jingliu having more graceful flips and aerial movements, being faster.
It didn't hit as hard for me because we haven't really spent much time knowing these characters yet unlike characters in honkai where we spend more time and grow more attached

and it has been more than 700 years since Jingyuan killed his master (the description of the animation, and also the pine tree has grown so tall in the ending scene), not mention Jingyuan himself says he will retire very soon in main quest. It's really hard to say....

Maaaan. This is even more depressing now that we have the full lore behind why Jingliu got mara stricken. Due to Dan Feng and Yinqing (Blade) trying to revive Baiheng, and ending up turning her into a monster that Jingliu had to put down. She had already witnessed her best friend die, and then she had to essentially kill her best friend. And that trauma of that, the feeling of betrayal from Dan Feng and Yinqing, all of that contributed to her mental state taking a turn for the worse, and ending up becoming mara struck.
I mean the fact that the game's name starts with "Honkai" should have been an indication that the flags will be flying for certain characters. "Hello darkness my old friend..."
i love the small detail that i havent seen anyone mention is right after the flashback of jing yuan training where she says you must not let your weapon slip nor let slacken their form when you goes back to the fight jing yuan almost slips and gets back his stance almost getting serious and standing his ground then he grips his weapon tight not to let it slip out of his hands remembering the training with his master
himeko is back... but at what depression and trauma cost we need to pay.... one day there will be 13 kind of legends hero in HSR and probably some kind of previous hero type of things and all of them have depressing story, just wait! the dev and the story maker will cook the story guys
This was amazing. So glad to hoyoanime working on things. I know this was a short for Jing Yuan but it made me decide to save in the hopes we'll get Jingliu. I guess you could call this the Penultimate lesson since Jing Yuan has so many flags? The phrase "No mercy for the corrupted" kept coming to mind when I watched this.
HSR team delivering the full course right on release with vocal theme, In-game CGs and now animated shorts I was on the fence about the game but after this I'm convinced it's the real deal working on this game, all the signs are there. I hope they keep this up and don't shy away. Also the "I won't hold back" from Yanqing before dueling at the end, just like his master said...

I originally thought the girl in the OP trailer was Xueyi's sister as that light cone shows, but now after comparing clothes and designs I realized it was Jingliu after all. Man white hair girls are always so confusing... Also Jingliu's eyes in the trailer look very like Xueyi's cyborg eyes, so maybe that's how she survived the mara?
I love watching stuff like this retrospectively, cuz now we know we're going to get more Xianzhou story I hope we'll find out what happens between this trailer and Jingliu appearing in game

Jing Yuan hasn't quite caused enough of an impact on the story for me to care nearly as much as The Final Lesson, it's simply too early but if the writing quality keeps up then they could turn that around. I guess we'll see
Xianzhou theme is real dark, they're immortal but when they exceed age limit they became mara struck then after they need to be killed by their beloved one. I don't know anything about yaoshi but right now i hate her, it just feel like watching otto all over again 😮💨

Unfortunately, since long-life Xianzhou don't die natural deaths, they're either going to fall in battle or be mara-struck. And Jing Yuan is very very strong, so I doubt he'd fall in basically any battle. Yanqing, or someone in his position, is going to have to do it eventually. That's the sinister part of the Abundance's "immortality". You'll live forever, but what will become of you?
