One of my characters was a druid with Slippers of Spiderclimb. One of you absolute FAVORITE was to be up on a wall or a ceiling and just Yoinking them so the fall. In fact Yoink became short hand for, "I attack them with Thornwhip and they fall 10 feet." I know dragging them through Spike Growth is more optimal but the campaign took place in the Underdark so there wasn't much space to get the spikes out and not have my friends caught in the area. To be honest it was just more funny to call out, "Yoink" on my turn.
Hah, that’s awesome! And with melee in the party, it could easily be more optimal than Spike Growth. Definitely easier to set up and pull off repeatedly. And stronger against enemies with ranged attack options.
Spell sniper: Now you can knock out from 60 ft, plus so many more forced movement opportunities. Absorb element: With thorn whip there is no need to walk over when you want to return enemie's elemental damage to them.
I love these spell breakdowns! Great for coming up with fun builds. Keep em coming! I'd love to see some character build or low level combo videos if you made any
Love thorn whip on a swarmkeeper. I’m a big fan of swarm 3 / star druid x builds for the archer form. Having two spell attack per turn makes it far likelier that gathered swarm goes off regularly.
I take thorn whip whenever possible. The options for both shenanigans and tactical play make it too good. I hadn't thought of using it to pull creatures upward. My aasimar swarmkeeper has multiple uses of flight per day, so there's some interesting possibilities there.
Thorn whip is great with a wildfire druid, because you can have the spell originate from your wildfire spirit’s space. Place your wildfire spirit on the opposite side of a spike growth and alternate rounds cheese grating an enemy back and forth. Or have the spirit hover over a chasm and thorn whip enemies into it.
They can! twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/910652722914852864 + www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sac/sage-advice-compendium (Ctrl + F "a melee spell attack can be used to knock a creature out"). My bad, I should've included a screenshot in the video.

Thank you, that's awesome to hear :) Those are great ideas; I'll see what I can do!

Sounds like a super fun build! I also love the idea of a star creature surrounded by a swarm of nature spirits lol

Love that…hadn’t considered how potent thorn whip would be on a wildfire druid.
Nice work on the video!
So if I use thornwhip to pull someone closer and use shillelagh on them, can that be done in one action?
Thorn Whip is a melee spell attack that does piercing damage... Piercer feat says attack that does piercing damage... Hmm, that's interesting!
Melee spell attacks can't knock out enemies sadly... 😢
