the scope of a movie like that is much much larger. A miniseries would be fitting.Or multiple movies like The Hunger Games for instance.

I was torn about supporting the film by the RAPE allegations.
I decided Hubby and I needed to see this film first-hand opening day. "Birth of a Nation," is a film that tells a POWERFUL message of EMPOWERMENT. I highly recommend supporting the movie. I was deeply emotionally affected by the film. I had to go home and go to sleep afterwards because I was so EMOTIONALLY DRAINED.
As I watched the movie, it was a revelation for me to see that our Ancestors fought to remove the oppression placed upon them by SLAVE MASTERS, SLAVE PATROLERS, AND MOST WHITE PEOPLE OF THAT TIME. It was so empowering to me to see that African-Americans took a stand for FREEDOM.
We fought back ourselves for our own FREEDOM. we did not wait for others to remove our bondage for us as HISTORY has taught us.
That was NAT TURNER's LEGACY for us as a people. Now I know. Keep in mind though that this is a CREATIVE INTERPRETATION of NAT TURNER'S LIFE, not a DOCUMENTARY at all. Many FACTS about NAT TURNER were missing or changed to tell filmmaker's story.

REAL TALK 100 exactly i will never turn on my brother for society nate was tried and convicted and found not guilty us as a people shouldn't be the jury to convict him. I loved this movie and some of my sisters were mad that he married a white woman so they turned their back on this film which is wrong

Me too. I felt the weight of our Ancestors in the movie. After the movie was over couldn't lift myself out of my chair. I went home and curled up in a little ball. The film kept playing in my head. That was my PTSD. It took me several days to get those images out of my head.

Yvette Smith omg me too... It is an overwhelming sadness... It really gripped my soul and my eyes were just filled with tears... We need reminders like this so we never take for granted that our ancestors sacrificed their lives for us to have the freedom we have today...

    My
observation on the film was passing on legacy, and tradition. Was a lot
of subliminal messages in this movie. 1. It's great to have religion,
but black people rely on it too much. It's makes us docile, and too
accepting of cruel behavior towards us. 2. It shows us the strength of
unity, and what type of stock we truly come from. We our a strong
people with pride, intelligence, and resilience. 3. In the mist of
working towards our goals, and executing our strategic plan to be treated
as human beings, we need to be selective of our circle of people who know the
plan. We always have to be vigilant of infiltrators that want
to dismantle our progress either because they can't understand the vision, are
weak, selfish, or crabs in the barrel. Some blacks don't
want to get away from master cause he treat us good. 4. Lastly, that we
have to be willing to put our lives on the line, and maybe even die
for the things we believe in to create a better tomorrow for us and the
generation to come. This was a call to action, the horn was blown to
get organized and get ready for the revolution.
Its time for truth to come out. Hopefully, this can a be a break
through for a host of powerful, instrumental blacks throughout history. I
would love to see so many hero's stories. Crispus Attucks, Mansa
Musa, Benjamin Banneker, Ida B. Wells, the true story of the black Hebrew
Israelites, the Haiti Revolution ( they won) etc

I HAVE HEARD WHITES SAY ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT OF BLACK AMERICANS WITH FOREIGN BLACK ACTORS TO PLAY BLACK AMERICAN ROLES SAY THAT THE REASON FOR THE SWITCH IS BECAUSE THE ACTING ABILITY OF BLACK AMERICANS "SUCK." REALLY? OK. WELL, THIS MOVIE IS JUST SO AMAZING AND IT WAS WRITTEN, DIRECTED BY A BLACK AMERICAN AND STARS BLACK AMERICAN ACTORS WHO ARE AMAZING ACTORS.

It's because of Gabrielle Union that my husband had based his reason for not supporting the film. While I understand that there's no rape scene in the movie, my husband contends that Gabrielle Union states that she plays a rape victim. My husband and I are at odds on this for I see it as a history of gain for our people. I have 2 teen girls I would like to see this movie.

r mac Did you tell the White Man to stop celebrating Independence Day cause that was a long time ago. Did you tell that White Man to forgive and forget 9/11? NO! That White Man went to war and dropped bombs on innocent women, men, and children even though the Arabs never attacked the U.S. A war lasting 15 years and still fighting today.
