I bought the SharpStar 15028HNT last year. It was my first newt. I bought it to replace my GT81. Nearly double the aperture and speed, seemed like a good idea. If you like tinkering, then a newt is a good choice. Finding and eliminating light leaks. Finding and eliminating reflections. Finding and eliminating tilt. Trying to get good stars across the entire frame of an IMX571 sensor. IF you can address those things, these little fast newts collect a whole lot of light. Have fun gathering first light with your new scope!
After you get a Newt, it's really hard to go back to small aperture scopes. The difference in detail is astronomical. I now image with a 10" Newt and it's an absolute beast!. Congrats on your acquisition.
Note: Those lasers are a class 3, completely harmless to your eyes. Great video, nice scope, after having one for over a year now, all I can say is “good luck” I gave up on mine six months ago, hope things go better for you.
Excellent video, wish you bought one before I did. Double check the tightness of the nuts inside the tube holding the focuser on, mine were loose. I would also install the mirror mask at some point. I use a small 585 MC PRO with mine, takes advantage of the big aperture. I would not put a heavy image train on this until you're convinced the focus tension is correct. Too lose it slips, too tight it won't move. IMO that's the only weak part of this scope.
Me too I'm excited to walk down this road with newts. Been wanting to try one for a while now.! Thanks for watching this channel. Hope this series will be helpful to you in some way! appreciate ya!
Looks like a great scope. I have used a Newt for visual and astrophotography since I began this hobby over the last few years. However, I would recommend checking with a good Cheshire. The laser does not show you if you have concentric circles through the focal plane. Great video!
Those small imaging newt are great if built well. The apertura looks like a great option. The takahashi epsilon are also built like tanks and rarely lose collimation.
Yes for sure! I have a video scheduled on Saturday to follow this up. It's actually turning into a long series. This next one should be there for you first thing on Saturday morning!
Great timing, love your videos. I have this in my cart at highpoint and I keep stopping myself from hitting order.. until now lol. Mine is on the way! Also, I'm looking at getting some sort of light to help me take flats.. I noticed you use one in a few videos -- which one are you using?
Oh man! Congrats on your purchase! We will be experiencing this newt at the same time! I am just using this light panel amzn.to/3YzpwzD it has served me well.
Ditto on the imaging train…and I too am using the PlayerOne Uranus-C (IMX585) camera. I have struggled to get the focuser to stay put. Tried the QHY Focuser (which works great) - but the focuser just wants to slip. Looking for better options than the current focuser.
pretty good review. does the focuser provide a way to remove the clamp and eventually screw the camera directly? With fast newtonians i find clamps very annoying as they potentially introduce a lot of tilt and make collimation much harder to reproduce reliably
It appears it will screw off I haven't removed it just becuase i don't want to disturb it's stock form for this series review. I need things "out of the box" to test Apertura's claims on this newt. But from what it looks like it would have female threads so I imagine it would need another piece to adapt a camera.
I do like fast scopes! I seem to want to try all of them! LOL I do still use hyperstar! it was just a few videos ago I compared F2 to F4 and featured it. th-cam.com/video/xzNrzU5dicU/w-d-xo.html I also have a Baader filter video in the works and will be using it there too!
I have to ask please, does the EAF come with the bracket to connect it to your telescope or do you have to order that separately and specifically for your telescope?
It comes with the bracket. Here's a video where I showed all the parts to it th-cam.com/video/gZKsTshGkwY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jscPSguvoXDFi1Bq Hope that helps
Hi, I am really interested in your experience. I have bought as my first newtonian an used Sharpstar 130 HNT. This is a hard start. I have had already some experience with refractors and was curious about and was obviously under estimating this topic. Especially in terms of f-number. Let us see how it works for you. Like to learn with you.
I had the absolute worst time with mine in the beginning. The focuser didn't work with my eaf and the light leak plate broke. Apertura never responded to my emails either

Mine just arrived this morning. Clear skies!
Oh snap! Carbonstar party!! Congrats on your new scope!! Clear skies!

Thanks my friend and good looking out! I will check those points appreciate it!
Looking forward to this series to see what you discover. I struggled with this scope for months until the update kit finally arrived.

Congratulations on your purchase! Beautiful Scope. Was that thunder I heard in the background as you were unloading it from the car?😂
Thanks Im super excited about it! Yea it was lol not only is it life in the PNW but I bought a new OTA! go figure!

Really intereted in your use case and review! But now that you got a new telescope, it'll probably be cloudy for the next few weeks.😂
You are probably right. The new telescope curse is upon me!!!
@@astronotna hello. any updates on the use case? I'd really curious about performance and your review. Thanks!

Thanks so much, I didn't even think about using a drawing pad. Much love to taco

I like the Aperture/GSO brand.
just in time for the new moon \o/

You seem to like fast wide scopes. Do you still use hyperstar 6?

Does the focuser still protrude the housing when you rack up to your focus point?
It does a little the effect is noticed on dimmer stars that are able to diffract spikes. It's not very noticable on bright stars

Thanks for coming along for the ride. Good or bad we will see what the "out of the box"experience is really like through multiple nights.
I had the absolute worst time with mine in the beginning. The focuser didn't work with my eaf and the light leak plate broke. Apertura never responded to my emails either
That sounds terrible!
Would that telescope be good for planets and Nebulas?
Nebula for sure. I don't do planetary photography so I couldn't answer that question for ya! Maybe someone here will chime in!
@@astronotna Do both with my Newt. Works well.
Glad i read the comments. Seems overpriced given the reported issues, so I won't be buying one now
Laser has to be collimated too.
