- Those newer looking grain cars were put onto the siding where the Mega Log Haulers had been sitting behind Ace Hardware off Breitung Ave by ELS 501 (SD40-2) on Friday, before continuing south with a bunch more LP siding.

Outstanding video!!!
I'll bet the siding plant was happy to get those 18 centerbeams loaded and off to their distributors! E&LS has to get their track upkeep schedule back on track!
Awesome video bro 👍👍
Always enjoy your videos Jason.
Thanks Jason, I hope you feel better 😊
Man, this is gold, your so laid back and nothing seems to rattle you & we get great backroad railway scenes and that's so cool.
Time to kick the radio out and get a new one.
Don't forget to put the cat out tonight or tie it to the tracks.
Cheers Mate from Australia.
Hey Jason...This is the perfect video just before going to work. Have a good day, bud. Get that rest!
All the grafitti taggers in the area will have a field day!
Thanks for sharing Jason! Another great watch from here in Maine!!! Take care of yourself!
A slow train with green freddy on the back thanks Jason !
Seems like there is good money in car storage.
I remember so well after 25 years on the S.P. We sometimes caught trains with locomotives from other carriers. The seats on the U.P and other railroads were terribly uncomfortable. Southern Pacific locos had comfortable seats with lumbar support, etc. Thanks for the memories, S.P.
1 engine 18 smart size cars and one tank car
Awesome catch! I wonder why they are putting new grain cars in to storage?
Feel Better!!!😮Jason!!!
A smart train. take care and rest.
The ace Hardware used to be a K Mart. I worked there in the early 80's.
Great video, relaxing to watch
Another great video,J😊
Look up ELS under KillerBee. 1990's. so cool.
Cool.
good train video
So the new steel of those covered hoppers replaces the old Steel of the Mega Log Haulers. This might gather all the new cars now in one location. Today's train seemed to be down to under 5 mph. Since this seems to be the year for a major Street Improvement maybe ELS takes that section of track so it can receive it's proper and much-needed upgrade
Hoppers don't carry wood
The reference was to the steel sorry the concept was missed@@TylerDonitzen-777
@@paulbergen9114 oh no your good don't need to apologize
Appreciated this video! I’m wondering if this is just a
re-shuffling of storage cars.
Could this be the cars I’ve seen
sitting in a yard you’ve passed,
several times, when chasing trains? I can’t recall the name of
it!
I enjoyed the video 👍👍
There's only one crossing sign at that crossing
Did you trip on a big rock and fall last night, once I walked off a short cliff (5 feet) and landed on a piece of drift wood, yep that can be a B.
These guys are really behind the 8 ball, LS&I have fixed their track real good , driving 50 mph and 2 nice new(to them) 4000 HP locomotives that weigh close to 400,000 pounds with big roomy cabs, of course they haul taconite instead of pulp wood, so they probably make more money, ya know it's too bad they couldn't get in on the silver hauling those trains with gondolas covered in white plastic that's silver ore., with all the abandoned track available to them and all they can get for customers is LP, I'm really surprised they can make it financially.
Well, there's many details you have glossed over. LS&I is a single purpose built RR for moving taconite from Empire (mothballed) and Tilden mines just south of Marquette. 100+ years ago, LS&I had timber loads as well... The mine and RR are owned by Cleveland Cliffs. The LS&I has shrunk to just 25 miles of track. As you mentioned, They have modern high-horsepower locos to handle the 7,000 ton trains. They haul heavy trains of ore jennies down a long grade from the Marquette Range to Lake Superior shoreline, which require very robust locomotives.
However, when Empire mine closes, so does the railroad, be it seasonally (due to no ore boats) or permanently.
E&LS operates 347 miles, with the most active line being the 132 miles between Green Bay and Channing and a ~6 mile spur to Oconto Falls. The balance is either used for car storage or completely OOS, but not abandoned (except Rockland - Ontonagon). The track profile is low rolling hills, with the steepest grades at 1.0 to 1.4% in a few locations. most trains are 2,000 to 4,000 tons north of Crivitz
LP and Alter Metal are the predominant customers on the north end, with a smattering of wood loadings here and there at Precision Lumber in Pembine.
E&LS runs a very lucrative car repair shop in Escanaba. They also handle a lot of switching traffic for various customers there.
Another busy switching operation is at Marinette-Menominee area, serving a handful of industries there.
Crivitz and OF have more customers, with a higher density of traffic between there and Green Bay.
All interchange is with CN.
BTW, LS&I formerly ran some very tired ex-BN U30C/C30-7s before the Big Blue AC4400s arrived... and before that were used Alco RSD-12s and RSD-15s on ore trains, with RS-3s handling the merchandise traffic.... th-cam.com/video/PXxftDFsrv4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G9HY3bR9ztQBBoCf
@@BudmanPackfan I was in the process of answering you're right I glossed over I could have been forthright and wiki'd it but I was lazy. Thorn Apple Valley Railroad channel had a big write up of LS&I with his video some years back and they had some old 3300 HP GEs pulling well if they were pulling 7000tons that would be 93 railcars, @75 tons each or 70 @100 tons each depending on date of manufacture of the railcar. They may have pulled a smaller quantity commensurate to the size of the locomotives i don't remember the details of his article other than the top speed was 35MPH.
The money train.......
Another beautiful day in Upper Michigan! Can't wait to get there ! What did you do ?
He was rock hunting on Lake Superior, stuff that glows in the dark.
Doesn't your radio have an AC adapter for running indoors?
How on Earth did the algorithm recommend me this video?
Great video, I can't believe I'm the first to comment, lol
