I've never watched the second spin-off show and have no intention of doing so, and it never spoiled my enjoyment. I would say the first spin-off show would add to your enjoyment of Doctor Who a lot though.
I havn't seen any of the spin offs, I know theres the Sarah Jane Smith one and Torchwood but I'm intrested in the audio thing about the Paternoster Gang bc Strax is just great

Great reaction. Also, interesting fact: The mention of the day Kennedy died is an in-joke. The first episode of Doctor Who's original run aired the day after Kennedy was killed. They actually delayed the premiere slightly because of the news coverage, and it was also why (plus some blackouts) that they aired episode 1 again right before episode 2 the following week.

For episodes, Dailymotion is pretty good. It has most 'Classic Who' episodes on there (1963-1989) and all Modern Who episodes (from 2005 onwards), sometimes they get taken down due to Copyright, but more often than not they'll get re-uploaded one way or another. Edit: all Modern Who episodes (from 2005) are on BBC I player for a limited duration of time. Hope that all helps :)

Oh wow, you're watching Dr Who? I never have, but I did watch "The Empty Child", which I think is fairly early on. Pretty creepy. I've seen a few classic ones though. EDIT: The ROUTEMASTER BUSES!! I remember those being everywhere in central London when I was a kid. Literally only two routes now use them. Hopping on and off was so much fun.

YES! There can never be too many reactors I follow watching Doctor Who. And I'll be interested in seeing your take. You probably realized Doctor Who is a very 'out there' kind of show and sometimes requires you to not think too hard, but it does deliver the surprises, the character moments, the twists and turns, and it 100% delivers on the feels especially in later seasons. Tears will be shed.
Looking back, it was a great first episode. I hope you get hook to the Doctor as much us many of us are. As an advice, if you feel the first season kind of old or slow compared to modern series, be patient. it will get much better. It's like, step by step, you will start to connect with all this characters and situations, making you feel small, but part of a huge all. So glad you are watching this! I watched the show in the 70s (when we first met the living plastic!) then again in about 2007 on... (I had to catch up). Love it. There is the occasional iffy episode, but on the whole it's a great show. I watched with my (teens and young adults) and we all really enjoyed it.
You don't have to watch the classic/original series in order to watch the reboot. Starting from Rose, they throw a lot of references about the classic series to connect the two series. One thing about watching this series, pay attention to each episode, sometimes there are easter eggs about past or future episodes. Oh and when the doctor mentioned the war, I know you were confused on that one. The war takes place towards the tail end/in between the classic and reboot series so not much is known about the war, except for what the doctor chooses to reveal to us. Rose was on the fence about going off with a stranger but she did technically just lose her job and was sick of doing the same old stuff day after day. She was interested in seeing other places but time travel really piqued her interest. Rose is amazing and the 9th doctor (Christopher Eccleston) is just fantastic. I am really glad you are reacting to this series and I am sorry if I potentially spoiled anything, I tried to make it as vague as could be haha
Was hesitant to watch these early Doctor Who reactions because you dont have full versions, but I didnt realize how much of the episode you did keep in. Also the fact you called the Tardis his 'teleporting device' instantly makes me want to suffer through the edited-only reactions.

As you may know (or soon will!) the show first started in 1963, went off air in 1989 and you are watching the revival starting in 2005. This means the show has two eras - Classic Who (1963-1989) and New Who (2005 to present). There is continuity between the eras and the Who universe includes books, comics & audio adventures. It is a Television institution in the UK and many of the Commonwealth countries (eg. Australia, New Zealand). I hope you enjoy the ride with the greatest TV show of all time! (OK I may be a bit biased!)
The Autons (manequins controlled by the Consciousness ) are a Classic WHo Monster who first appeared in 1970 and we're a favourite of the writer (and showrunner) of this episode when he was kid.

In case you haven’t thought about this before: At the beginning of the episode, the Doctor was checking out his face as if he’s seeing it for the very first time, yeah? So, where’s all the research that man had coming from? He was bound to have gotten a glimpse in a window or mirror before Rose’s apartment. When Rose turned him down, he took off in the Tardis, traveled a bit (where pictures from the man’s house were taken), and came back to get her. We don’t know how long he was gone.. time machine. He could’ve been gone for years, and realized he’d rather have Rose there. Just something to think about.
These aliens appeared in Classic Who. In fact the very first story of the 3rd Doctor {Jon Pertwee} way back in 1970 in a story called Spearhead from Space. AND SO THE EDUCATION BEGINS!!! LOL
At the beginning of this episode, the 9th doctor was newly regenerated. All of his other adventures (from the pictures the conspiracy guy showed Rose), happened in the brief period at the end when he left and then came back. From his perspective it was a long time. Time travel gets confusing.
Welcome to the whovian universe, it's a great ride, there's some kac episodes, but there's way more better ones, and some of the most truly original characters, a lot of the, dating back to the 60's & 70's which still have the ability to creep you out ( classic dr who was famous for making children hide behind the sofa ) and it still awakens that child in you. Every seasons ramps it up, and even when you have to say goodbye to favorites and say it won't be the same, it isn't, it just brings a different set of qualities and there will be tears if you join us for the whole ride. Guaranteed!!!!!!

Luke Rose oooh, sacrilege ;) I defy anyone to say that the 4th Doctor is boring! Anyway,Classic Who has far more imaginative storytelling than ANYTHING the new series has attempted;it just does it at a more measured pace (,and a much lower budget)... but he'll never find out if he doesn't give it a go! Also,there are a few key stories from the Classic era which greatly increase the enjoyment of certain parts of new who.

Technically, they re-aired the first episode because of it - AND slightly modified it so that they could try to shoot a couple of scenes better.

Rose was on the fence about going off with a stranger but she did technically just lose her job and was sick of doing the same old stuff day after day. She was interested in seeing other places but time travel really piqued her interest. Rose is amazing and the 9th doctor (Christopher Eccleston) is just fantastic. I am really glad you are reacting to this series and I am sorry if I potentially spoiled anything, I tried to make it as vague as could be haha

Was hesitant to watch these early Doctor Who reactions because you dont have full versions, but I didnt realize how much of the episode you did keep in.
Also the fact you called the Tardis his 'teleporting device' instantly makes me want to suffer through the edited-only reactions.
Great reaction & as a fan of the show for 48 years now - welcome to the world of Doctor Who! We've been lucky with lots of great new Doctor Who reactors recently & it is super to see a new one. As you may know (or soon will!) the show first started in 1963, went off air in 1989 and you are watching the revival starting in 2005. This means the show has two eras - Classic Who (1963-1989) and New Who (2005 to present). There is continuity between the eras and the Who universe includes books, comics & audio adventures. It is a Television institution in the UK and many of the Commonwealth countries (eg. Australia, New Zealand).
I hope you enjoy the ride with the greatest TV show of all time! (OK I may be a bit biased!)

The Autons (manequins controlled by the Consciousness ) are a Classic WHo Monster who first appeared in 1970 and we're a favourite of the writer (and showrunner) of this episode when he was kid.

I always love watching the reactions to this episode. It just makes me feel like I'm watching it all again.
In case you haven’t thought about this before:
At the beginning of the episode, the Doctor was checking out his face as if he’s seeing it for the very first time, yeah? So, where’s all the research that man had coming from? He was bound to have gotten a glimpse in a window or mirror before Rose’s apartment. When Rose turned him down, he took off in the Tardis, traveled a bit (where pictures from the man’s house were taken), and came back to get her. We don’t know how long he was gone.. time machine. He could’ve been gone for years, and realized he’d rather have Rose there.
Just something to think about.
These aliens appeared in Classic Who. In fact the very first story of the 3rd Doctor {Jon Pertwee} way back in 1970 in a story called Spearhead from Space. AND SO THE EDUCATION BEGINS!!! LOL

At the beginning of this episode, the 9th doctor was newly regenerated. All of his other adventures (from the pictures the conspiracy guy showed Rose), happened in the brief period at the end when he left and then came back. From his perspective it was a long time. Time travel gets confusing.

Welcome to the whovian universe, it's a great ride, there's some kac episodes, but there's way more better ones, and some of the most truly original characters, a lot of the, dating back to the 60's & 70's which still have the ability to creep you out ( classic dr who was famous for making children hide behind the sofa ) and it still awakens that child in you. Every seasons ramps it up, and even when you have to say goodbye to favorites and say it won't be the same, it isn't, it just brings a different set of qualities and there will be tears if you join us for the whole ride. Guaranteed!!!!!!
This show used to be an absolute joy. By far my favourite season and favourite Doctor.

So i've heard- when I asked a bunch of ppl they told me to start reacting from here so I just did. Might go back to them eventually!
failwhale34 get to the end of series one first,so that you get familiar with it.Then you might want to have a look at the very first episode from 1963,to see how it all started (you'll be fascinated by how much it's changed;but also by how much it's stayed the same!)
Then move on to series two.
failwhale34 this is my opinion but classic doctor who very slow and boring, like myself you probably wouldn't enjoy it
Luke Rose oooh, sacrilege ;) I defy anyone to say that the 4th Doctor is boring!
Anyway,Classic Who has far more imaginative storytelling than ANYTHING the new series has attempted;it just does it at a more measured pace (,and a much lower budget)... but he'll never find out if he doesn't give it a go!
Also,there are a few key stories from the Classic era which greatly increase the enjoyment of certain parts of new who.
ian smith it probably is more creative but to me the show comes off as very dated and only watched by older doctor who fans
