Your garden is beautiful. I grew up in Basildon, Essex but left in 1979. We just bought a house in Wisconsin three years ago and the back yard was practically a clean slate. Sadly we have pretty bad clay soil that doesn't drain well so I've spent last year and this spring double digging and adding compost to improve it. I've been busy planting Lime light hydrangeas along my 6ft privacy fence and after watching your video on painting your fence black, I have decided that I'm going to paint ours a very dark brown. It's about 30 years old and in much need of power washing and painting, so thanks for the inspiration.

I came back to look at another of your vids. Among other things, seeing the garden before your intervention is a real motivator. I know how important it is to make a real commitment to any large project. You've provided the proof that it can be done. Bravo.

Beautiful. Looks kind of high maintenance. I could spend hours every day in my small yard, and it's never finished. Being retired, I guess that shouldn't be a problem. I guess I just feel like I always have to be out there doing something... I do enjoy it, but sometimes it feels like never-ending punishment.
Yes gardens are always a bit of hard work I agree but equally I find it very rewarding seeing and being in nature close up. The wonder of plants and the seasons never fails to inspire me.
Very peaceful feel, not cluttered up! Like the levels - makes the space look bigger.. Have you thought of doing something wirh Mondo grass somewhere? For some reason it popped in my head, sure there must be some - would be the vibe imho. Lovely garden - thanks for sharing!
Hi Karen sorry for the delay in replying I have only just seen this comment. The Paving is a Marshalls Symphony porcelain paving and I laid it myself with the help of a couple of local landscapers.
Lovely garden! What type of tree is the one located behind the upper seating area? Also do you know what the flowering shrub is beneath it? I’ve been considering a few flowering trees and shrubs (azaleas and an autumn cherry tree)
Thanks for the kind words Nicholas. The tree that leans is, or was an old apple tree (unfortunately we lost this in a storm last year). The larger bushier tree behind this is actually a Viburnum shrub that has been allowed to grow. It has a beautiful pink flower in winter. The flowering shrub is one I have still not managed to identify unfortunately, but it puts on a great spring show. We also have a lovely camellia in this border that provides a wonderful floral display. Hope this helps.

I love your beautiful garden. I'm wanting ideas for a very sloped garden but I'm really struggling
Sloped gardens can be difficult especially if they slope away from the house. Terracing and creating levels would be my best advice
